Nonparaxial spatial optical solitons with nonlocality nonlinearity

Abstract: We investigate one-dimensional Helmholtz solitons with nonlocal nonlinearity. We show an exact analytical solution to the nonlocal nonlinear nonparaxial propagation equation in the cases of high and weak nonlocality. We also numerically find that the degree of nonlocality can affect the width of nonlocal Helmholtz soliton beams, but have no effect on their stability. Contrarily, nonparaxiality can affect their stability, but have no effect on their width.
The MULTICOM toolbox for protein structure prediction

Abstract: To meet the need, we have developed a comprehensive MULTICOM toolbox consisting of a set of protein structure and structural feature prediction tools. These tools include secondary structure prediction, solvent accessibility prediction, disorder region prediction, domain boundary prediction, contact map prediction, disulfide bond prediction, beta-sheet topology prediction, fold recognition, multiple template combination and alignment, template-based tertiary structure modeling, protein model quality assessment, and mutation stability prediction.These tools have been rigorously tested by many users in the last several years and/or during the last three rounds of the Critical Assessment of Techniques for Protein Structure Prediction (CASP7-9) from 2006 to 2010, achieving state-of-the-art or near performance. In order to facilitate bioinformatics research and technological development in the field, we have made the MULTICOM toolbox freely available as web services and/or software packages for academic use and scientific research. Abstract: This article concerns the geometry of torsors under an elliptic curve. Let $\OO_K$ be a complete discrete valuation ring with algebraically closed residue field and function field $K$. Let $\pi$ be a generator of the maximal ideal of $\OO_K$, and $S=\mathrm{Spec}(\OO_K)$. Suppose that we are given $J_K$ an elliptic curve over $K$, with $J$ the connected component of the $S$-N?ron model of $J_K$. Given $X_K/K$ a torsor of order $d$ under $J_K$, let $X$ be the $S$-minimal regular proper model. Then there is an invertible id?al $\mathcal{I}\subset \OO_K$ such that $\mathcal{I}^{d}=\pi\OO_X\subset \OO_X$. Moreover, there exists a canonical morphism $q:\Pic^{\circ}_{X/S}\rightarrow J$ which induces a surjective map $q(S):\Pic^{\circ}(X)\rightarrow J(S)$. The purpose of the article is to prove this last morphism $q(S)$ is compatible with respect to the $\mathcal{I}$-adic filtration on $\Pic^{\circ}(X)$, and the $\pi$-adic filtration on $J(S)$. As a byproduct, we obtain {\textquotedblleft Herbrand functions\textquotedblright}, similar to those Serre used in his description of local class fields (\cite{Serre})
Cyclosporin A Inhibits the Influenza Virus Replication through Cyclophilin A-Dependent and -Independent Pathways

Abstract: The immunosuppressive drug cyclosporin A (CsA) has inhibitory effects on the replication of several viruses. The antiviral effects are through targeting the interaction between viral proteins and host factor cyclophilin A (CypA). CypA has been identified to interact with influenza A virus M1 protein and impair the early stage of the viral life cycle. In order to identify the effect of CsA on influenza virus replication, a CypA-depleted 293T cell line, which was named as 293T/CypA?, was constructed. The cytopathic effect (CPE) assay and the growth curve results indicated that CsA specifically suppressed the influenza A virus replication in a dose-dependent manner. CsA treatment had no effect on the viral genome replication and transcription but selectively suppressed the viral proteins expression. Further studies indicated that CsA could impair the nuclear export of viral mRNA in the absence of CypA. In addition, the antiviral activity of CsA was independent of calcineurin signaling. Finally, CsA could enhance the binding between CypA and M1. The above results suggested that CsA inhibited the replication of influenza A virus through CypA-dependent and -independent pathways.
An integrative multi-platform analysis for discovering biomarkers of osteosarcoma

Abstract: After extracting the information for potential biomarkers from SELDI data and microarray analysis, their associations were further inferred by link-test to identify biomarkers that could likely be used for diagnosis. Immuno-blot analysis was then performed to examine whether the expression of the putative biomarkers were indeed altered in serum from patients with osteosarcoma.Six differentially expressed protein peaks with strong statistical significances were detected by SELDI-TOF-MS. Four of the proteins were up-regulated and two of them were down-regulated. Microarray analysis showed that, compared with an osteoblastic cell line, the expression of 653 genes was changed more than 2 folds in three osteosarcoma cell lines. While expression of 310 genes was increased, expression of the other 343 genes was decreased. The two sets of biomarkers candidates were combined by the link-test statistics, indicating that 13 genes were potential biomarkers for early diagnosis of osteosarcoma. Among these genes, cytochrome c1 (CYC-1) was selected for further experimental validation.Link-test on datasets from both SELDI-TOF-MS and microarray high-throughput analysis can accelerate the identification of tumor biomarkers. The result confirmed that CYC-1 may be a promising biomarker for early diagnosis of osteosarcoma.Biomarkers usually refer to specific genes and their products with biochemical features that can be used to measure the progress of disease or the effects of treatment. Both research scientists and clinicians are working towards integrating advanced high-throughput detection technologies, bioinformatics analysis tools, and biological experiments to discover and validate new biomarkers. Abstract: Experiments of monthly dynamical extended-rang prediction with the global spectralmodel developed by Lab II, IAP are performed. The results show that the 30-day mean 500 hPa heightforecasts are obviously superior not only to the persistence but also to climate forecasts. In this paper,we also discuss how to get a better monthly mean height forecast from day-by-day prediction, whichindicates that forecast skill is enhanced markedly when weighted mean forecast is used instead of arithmetic one.

Abstract: 用中国科学院大气物理研究所二室的全球谱模式做了多个例子的月预报试验,结果表明,500hPa月平均预报高度场不仅明显优于持续性预报,也优于气候预报。文章还就如何从逐日的瞬时动力预报中提取对月预报有用的信息进行了讨论,并指出,用加权平均代替通常使用的算术平均求得平均月预报显著地提高了预报效果。
Estimation of Ocean Primary Productivity by Remote Sensing and Introduction to Spatio-temporal Variation Mechanism for the East China Sea

Abstract: According to calculation results of ocean chlorophyll concentration based on SeaWiFS data by SeaBAM model and synchronous ship-measured data, this research set up an improved model for Case-I and Case-II water respectively. The monthly chlorophyll distributions in the East China Sea in 1998 have been obtained from this improved model on the calculation results of SeaBAM. The relative coefficient analysis between the ship-measured chlorophyll concentration and the calculation results of the improved model shows that the relative coefficient is 0.5752, which means they have obvious dependence. The fact that the coefficient of linear regressive equation is nearly 1 confirms their dependence further. Therefore, it can be said for certain that the improved model is suitable for calculation of the chlorophyll distribution for Case-I and Case-II water in the East China Sea. The euphotic depth distribution in 1998 in the East China Sea is calculated by using remote sensing data of K 490 from SeaWiFS according to the relation between the euphotic depth and the oceanic diffuse attenuation coefficient. With the data of ocean chlorophyll concentration, euphotic depth, ocean surface photosynthetic available radiation (PAR), daily photoperiod and optimal rate of daily carbon fixation within a water column, the monthly and annual primary productivity spatio-temporal distribution in the East China Sea in 1998 have been obtained based on VGPM model. Based on analysis of those distributions, the conclusion can be drawn that there is a clear bimodality character of primary productivity in the monthly distribution in the East China Sea. In detail, the monthly distribution of primary productivity stays lowest level in winter and rises rapidly to the peak in spring. It gets down a little in summer, and gets up a little in autumn. The daily average of primary productivity in the whole East China Sea is 560.03 mg/m 2 /d, which is far higher than the average of subtropical ocean areas. The annual average of primary productivity is 236.95 g/m 2 /a, which is fit with the primary productivity obtained from the investigation in the Kuroshio zone in the East China Sea. The research on the seasonal variety mechanism of primary productivity shows that several elements that affect the spatio-temporal distribution may include the chlorophyll concentration distribution, temperature condition, the Yangtze River dilute water variety, the euphotic depth and ocean current variety etc. But the main influencing elements may be different in each local sea area.

Abstract: Let S be a Dedekind scheme with field of functions K. We show that if X_K is a smooth connected proper curve of positive genus over K, then it admits a N\'eron model over S, i.e., a smooth separated model of finite type satisfying the usual N\'eron mapping property. It is given by the smooth locus of the minimal proper regular model of X_K over S, as in the case of elliptic curves. When S is excellent, a similar result holds for connected smooth affine curves different from the affine line, with locally finite type N\'eron models.
