Psychology, Society & Education , 2010,
Abstract: Within the line of investigation over teacher’s thinking, we showwith this paper the results obtained from a research which aim was to explore the ideas and motivation of future secondary school teachers towards the teacher profession and the pedagogic training needed for being teacher in this educational stage. Through the Questionnaire about interest to teaching and initial training (Pontes, Ariza y Sánchez, 2010) we have explored the opinions of 353students of the course of initial training for teachers, comprising a quarter of the students of the past two courses of the University of Cordoba and being the last students of the CAP and the first of the Master degree. Among the results we have found that professional interests towards teaching obey to different reasons and that these reasons are related to diverse prior conceptions about the teacherprofession and its training. The results obtained contribute to the advance of the investigation about initial development of the teaching professional identity of training teachers and provide with some keys for the improvement of the initial training process of the secondary school teachers.

Unveiling Students' Understanding of Autonomy: Puzzling Out a Path to Learning Beyond the EFL Classroom

Profile Issues in Teachers` Professional Development , 2008,
Abstract: this paper aims at reporting a research project on students' understandings of autonomy evidenced in their learning experiences while in the efl classroom and outside of it in a colombian public university. this research study is conceived as a response to the new paradigm we are exposed to in our social and educational settings in which decision making becomes a key feature of individuals. data were gathered through field notes, video recordings, a questionnaire, interviews, students' logs and audio-recorded plenary sessions. the results of the study indicated that students conceived autonomy as an opportunity to find a key to learning beyond the classroom. when walking on this path, students faced a dilemma between detachment and teacher dependence; they showed independence in decision making taking advantage of learning opportunities beyond the classroom and engaging in reflection. they also constructed knowledge through experience and carried out learning self-evaluation processes.

Abstract: A basic component of any language program is the construction of the curriculum. There is a variety of approaches to curriculum planning and implementation from the technical production perspective to the critical view. The current article emerged from the analysis of the syllabus in a Basic English course in the undergraduate program at Universidad Nacional de Colombia and the design and implementation of a curricular unit. Such unit proved to be a powerful tool to connect what was set in the program, what students needed in terms of language and what they were interested in terms of culture.

Abstract: This article intends to report on a small research project carried out with a group of adult EFL learners at the National University extension program, in Bogotá. Founded on a needs analysis process, some activities based on students’ strengths were proposed and developed in order to meet the students’ main need: oral skills. The proposal was implemented and evaluated revealing oral portfolios and debates as useful tools in the development of oral proficiency as well as support in students’ self-regulation processes.
ARIZA,SERGIO;
Ideas y Valores , 2012,
Abstract: the article analyzes some of the uses of the theme of politics in the meno in order to demonstrate that the virtue under discussion is political not only because the interlocutors are exclusively interested in the quality that a good ruler must possess, but also because such quality is a form of self-rule of the soul. thus, the soul is seen as a political entity whose excellence depends on the type of government imposed. this proposal is associated with the psychology implicit in the first section of the dialogue, in which the unity of virtue is discussed. the meno thus appears as a dialogue that anticipates the analogy of soul and polis set forth in the republic.
Semiótica presuposicional y teoría reticular
Ariza,Miguel;
Opción , 2009,
Abstract: louis hjelmslev, in his prolegomena to a theory of language, anticipates the foundations for an axiomatically consistent semiotic theory. the theoretical scaffolding built by hjelmslev seeks to form a ?linguistic algebra? having as its articulating principle the presupposition relationship. process and system are the fundamental ambits in which semiotic magnitudes are manifested and they are the points of view from which the analysis is made. this paper attempts to show, from a semiotic-mathematical perspective and in concordance with roberto flores?s theoretical proposal, that the ordinations of events in a tale generated presuppositionally, in both ambits, integrate partially ordered sets susceptible of being conceived within a ?relational algebra,? whose geometric representation is of a diagrammatic character (presupposition trees and lattice).
Ariza,Sergio;
Revista de Estudios Sociales , 2009,
Abstract: this paper examines a seminal but astonishing feature in plato's criticism of poetry: plato banishes not only particular contents and authors, but the poetic forms themselves also, specifically the mimetic form. the analysis will show that the main reason for such banishing lies in the fact that plato discovered that the form as form (independently of its contents) has an autonomous character and is guided by aesthetic and not moral criteria. these aesthetic criteria are incompatible with the ideology that supports the ideal polis. this brings to light the merit of plato's analysis that lies not in the appraisal of poetic activity, but in the identification of the purely aesthetic and its consequences on the political program of the republic.
