Leonardo Simal Moreira Advances in Linear Algebra & Matrix Theory (ALAMT) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/alamt.2013.31001 Abstract: The cross product in Euclidean space IR3 is an operation in which two vectors are associated to generate a third vector, also in space IR3. This product can be studied rewriting its basic equations in a matrix structure, more specifically in terms of determinants. Such a structure allows extending, for analogy, the ideas of the cross product for a type of the product of vectors in higher dimensions, through the systematic increase of the number of rows and columns in determinants that constitute the equations. So, in a n-dimensional space with Euclidean norm, we can associate n – 1 vectors and to obtain an n-th vector, with the same geometric characteristics of the product in three dimensions. This kind of operation is also a geometric interpretation of the product defined by Eckman [1]. The same analogies are also useful in the verification of algebraic properties of such products, based on known properties of determinants.
Leonardo Simal Moreira Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/am.2014.51015 Abstract: Recently I published a paper in the journal ALAMT (Advances in Linear Algebra & Matrix Theory) and explored the possibility of obtaining products of vectors in dimensions higher than three [1]. In continuation to this work, it is proposed to develop, through dimensional analogy, a vector field with notation and properties analogous to the curl, in this case applied to the space IR4. One can see how the similarities are obvious in relation to the algebraic properties and the geometric structures, if the rotations are compared in spaces of three and four dimensions.
The History and Philosophy of Science (HPS) has become a field with significant insertions in the teaching of Science. The general objective of this paper is to present an analysis of the theatrical text Oxygen aiming at approaching the HPS. Specifically, an analysis of the construction of the concept of the scientist will be presented, focusing on the themes of power and ambition. The theatrical text was analyzed using Discourse Analysis from a Foucauldian perspective. The analysis revealed questions with regard to motivation, interests, ethics and scientific work. Those aspects are inserted in the purpose of the arguments comprised by the HPS in the sense of reaching the scientific literacy.
Revista Brasileira de Hematologia e Hemoterapia , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-84842003000400006 Abstract: alterations of the immune function during the pregnancy are not well understood. to assess the influence of pregnancy on the phagocytic function of the reticuloendothelial system twenty adult female rats were divided into two groups: group 1 (n=10) - control, group 2 (n=10) - pregnant rats. the assessment of the phagocytic function of the reticuloendothelial system was by the uptake of sulphur colloid labeled with tc99m by the reticuloendothelial system organs as well as to assess the permanence of the radio isotope in blood clots. the weights and radioactive levels of the samples were measured. histologic analyses of these organs were performed as well. the results were compared using the student t-test, with significance at p<0.05. the scintigraphic values were higher in the liver followed by spleen and lung. the blood clot presented with only a low amount of radiation. the pregnant rats registered lower radiation levels in the liver and higher in the lung when compared with the control group. the histo-architecture of the studied organs did not show any alterations. pregnancy reduces the phagocytic function of the liver but increases the role of the reticuloendothelial system function of the lung.
