Modelling and Analysis on Noisy Financial Time Series  [PDF]
Jinsong Leng
Journal of Computer and Communications (JCC) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jcc.2014.22012
Abstract:

Building the prediction model(s) from the historical time series has attracted many researchers in last few decades. For example, the traders of hedge funds and experts in agriculture are demanding the precise models to make the prediction of the possible trends and cycles. Even though many statistical or machine learning (ML) models have been proposed, however, there are no universal solutions available to resolve such particular problem. In this paper, the powerful forward-backward non-linear filter and wavelet-based denoising method are introduced to remove the high level of noise embedded in financial time series. With the filtered time series, the statistical model known as autoregression is utilized to model the historical times aeries and make the prediction. The proposed models and approaches have been evaluated using the sample time series, and the experimental results have proved that the proposed approaches are able to make the precise prediction very efficiently and effectively.

Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2017.510021
Abstract:
University institutions are among the resources of civic education; institutional education is to develop all-round people with good rules and regulations; university institutions haven’t achieved their educational effects in the civic education; this research explores the effect of the institution in university, and the reasons for the poor effect of institution education; we have to strengthen the institutional construction of universities to achieve the goal of civic education through the following routes: One is to re-examine the virtue of university institution and to examine whether the university institution conforms to the rule of law; the other one is to ensure strict implementation of university institution. Only in this way, can university institutional education enhance the civic consciousness of college students.
Features of Methylation and Gene Expression in the Promoter-Associated CpG Islands Using Human Methylome Data

Comparative and Functional Genomics , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/598987
Abstract: CpG islands are typically located in the 5′ end of genes and considered as gene markers because they play important roles in gene regulation via epigenetic change. In this study, we compared the features of CpG islands identified by several major algorithms by setting the parameter cutoff values in order to obtain a similar number of CpG islands in a genome. This approach allows us to systematically compare the methylation and gene expression patterns in the identified CpG islands. We found that Takai and Jones’ algorithm tends to identify longer CpG islands but with weaker CpG island features (e.g., lower GC content and lower ratio of the observed over expected CpGs) and higher methylation level. Conversely, the CpG clusters identified by Hackenberg et al.’s algorithm using stringent criteria are shorter and have stronger features and lower methylation level. In addition, we used the genome-wide base-resolution methylation profile in two cell lines to show that genes with a lower methylation level at the promoter-associated CpG islands tend to express in more tissues and have stronger expression. Our results validated that the DNA methylation of promoter-associated CpG islands suppresses gene expression at the genome level.

Our results validated that the DNA methylation of promoter-associated CpG islands suppresses gene expression at the genome level. 1. Introduction CpG islands (CGIs), which are clusters of CpG dinucleotides in GC-rich regions, are often located in the 5′ end of genes and are considered as gene markers in vertebrate genomes [1–3]. These CpG islands, especially promoter-associated CpG islands, play important roles in gene silencing, genomic imprinting, X-chromosome inactivation, and tumorigenesis [4]. Due to the functional importance of CpG islands in transcriptional regulation and epigenetic modifications [5], multiple algorithms have been developed to identify CpG islands in a genome or a specific sequence. Overall, these algorithms can be classified into two groups: traditional algorithms and new algorithms. Traditional algorithms are based on three features and parameters (length, GC content, and ratio of the observed over the expected CpGs (CpG O/E)) [2, 4, 6, 7], while new algorithms are based on statistical property [8, 9]. Substantial debate exists as to which algorithm performs better and in which context, such as in organisms, tissues, or developmental stages [4, 8, 10–12]. Comparing different features of CpG islands, especially length of the predicted islands [11], our previous study suggested that Takai and Jones’ algorithm is more appropriate overall for identifying promoter-associated islands of CpGs in vertebrate genomes [10]. However, the major
Estimate the Forest Recreational Values of Zhangjiajie in China Using a Contingent Valuation Method  [PDF]
Zhiming Leng, Yihui Lei
Low Carbon Economy (LCE) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/lce.2011.22013
Abstract: Zhangjiajie, a World Natural Heritage, is located in Chinese Wuling hinterland and rich in forest resources with cov-erage rate 64.61 percent of forest. Zhangjiajie was listed in World Natural Heritage Catalogue by the UNESCO in 1992 and is one of the most important tourism sites in China. As a leading and pillar industry, the tourism achieved remarkable effects on the economic development, where forest eco-tourism has played an important role. The purpose of this research is to estimate the forest recreational values of Zhangjiajie using a contingent valuation method (CVM). The empirical results show that non-use values account for the majority of the total values of Zhangjiajie. On this basis, the contingency table and Chi square test method are employed to test the related factors influencing tourists’ willingness to pay (WTP). The test results show that educational level and income level are the most important factors influencing WTP.
Analysis of the Relationship between Listed Companies’ Earnings Quality and Internal Control Information Disclosure  [PDF]
Jianfei Leng, Lu Li
Modern Economy (ME) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/me.2011.25100
Abstract: This article examines the relationship of earnings quality and internal control disclosure information in the sample of 1273 nonfinancial firms in shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2010. Using multiple regression model, we launch an empirical analysis on the relationship between earnings quality and internal control disclosure information. We find a positive relation between earnings quality and internal control disclosure information. The better the earnings quality is, the higher level of the internal control disclosure information will be. This provides a theoretical support to perfect our system of internal control disclosure of information, and to reduce the occurrence of financial fraud.
Internal Control Disclosure and Corporate Governance: Empirical Research from Chinese Listed Companies  [PDF]
Jianfei Leng, Yiran Ding
Technology and Investment (TI) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ti.2011.24029
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to research the influence of corporate governance structure on internal control disclosure in a sample of 1309 Chinese listed nonfinancial companies in 2010. We discover that internal control disclosure is positively related to directors’ remuneration, two part-time posts of chairman and general manager, directors’ education level and supervisors’ education level, and it negatively related to the proportion of state ownership. Internal control disclosure is not significantly related to the degree of ownership concentration, board size, the proportion of independent directors and the size of board of supervisors.
