Squared-field amplitude modulus and radiation intensity nonequivalence within nonlinear slabs

Abstract: This paper presents a novel approach to wave propagation inside the Fabry-Perot framework. It states that the time-averaged Poynting vector modulus could be nonequivalent with the squared-field amplitude modulus. This fact permits the introduction of a new kind of nonlinear medium whose nonlinearity is proportional to the time-averaged Poynting vector modulus. Its transmittance is calculated and found to differ with that obtained for the Kerr medium, whose nonlinearity is proportional to the squared-field amplitude modulus. The latter emphasizes the nonequivalence of these magnitudes. A space-time symmetry analysis shows that the Poynting nonlinearity should be only possible in noncentrosymmetric materials.
Distribution patterns of Iberian Carabidae (Insecta, Coleoptera)

Abstract: We have categorised the 1336 species and subspecies of the Iberian Peninsula according to the chorotype classification proposed by Vigna Taglianti et al. (1992), modified by the addition of new chorotypes. The Iberian Peninsula is noticeable among the different European and Circum-Mediterranean regions by the high proportion of endemic taxa (43.1%). The old age and stability of the northern half, the extreme position of the Peninsula within the Eurasiatic continent, alpine tectonics and abundance of caves are among the factors that have probably contributed to the origin of a distinctive fauna. Taxa with a large distribution pattern are predominant at a regional scale; the proportion of endemic taxa increases to the North and in mountain regions; Mediterranean elements are more frequent in the South whereas European elements increase in the northern half. Adaptation to a Mediterranean climatic regime and dispersal are two of the factors causing these patterns. The Peninsula is poor in Afrotropical elements, probably because of the strong isolation derived from the Sahara Desert. The Balearic Islands have high proportions of widely distributed and Mediterranean taxa, what suggests a main role of dispersal in the colonisation of the archipelago. The proportion of endemic taxa in Mallorca (7.8%) is intermediate between that of Sardinia and Sicily; in spite of a relatively long isolation, the Balearic Islands are small in size and moderately rich in caves, what explains that most endemic taxa are found in the lowlands. Se han categorizado las 1336 especies y subespecies de la fauna ibérica de Carabidae, usando los corotipos propuestos por Vigna Taglianti et al. (1992), los cuales se han completado con algunos otros adicionales. La Península Ibérica destaca entre las diversas regiones europeas y circunmediterráneas por la elevada proporción de elementos endémicos (43,1%). La antigu edad y estabilidad de la mitad norte peninsular, el aislamiento de la región, los plegamientos alpinos y la abundancia de cuevas, son factores que probablemente han contribuido a su singularidad faunística. Los elementos de amplia distribución predominan a la escala regional; las proporciones de endemismos son mayores hacia el Norte y en las zonas de monta a; la de los elementos mediterráneos se incrementa hacia el Sur, al contrario de lo que ocurre con los elementos europeos. La adaptación al régimen climático mediterráneo y la dispersión son dos de los factores que probablemente causan estos patrones. Alternative method for wave propagation analysis within bounded linear media: conceptual and practical implications

Abstract: This paper uses an alternative approach to study the monochromatic plane wave propagation within dielectric and conductor linear media of plane-parallel-faces. This approach introduces the time-averaged Poynting vector modulus as field variable. The conceptual implications of this formalism are that the nonequivalence between the time-averaged Poynting vector and the squared-field amplitude modulus is naturally manifested as a consequence of interface effects. Also, two practical implications are considered: first, the exact transmittance is compared with that given by the Beer's Law, employed commonly in experiments. The departure among them can be significative for certain material parameter values. Second, when the exact reflectance is studied for negative permittivity slabs, it is show that the high reflectance can be diminished if a small amount of absorption is present.

Abstract: The taxonomy and geographic distribution of the Iberian and Canary Islands representatives of the tribe Cnemeplatiini, is established, after study of available types. Several errors in recent papers are corrected. Cnemeplatia laticeps (Wollaston, 1857) described from Madeira, is cited as new record for the isla of La Palma, Canary Islands. Cnemeplatia atropos Costa 1847 is a valid species. Cnemeplatia rufa Tournier, 1874 stat. rest. and C. mouchampsi Espa ol 1948 stat. nov. are considered as valid species and not geographical subspecies of Cnemeplatia atropos Costa, 1847, based on morphology. The name Cnemeplatia rufa Tournier, 1874 has priority over C. atropos africana Kaszab, 1938 syn. nov. Figures of discriminatory characters to identify all European and Northwestern African described species are given. La composición taxonómica y distribución geográfica de los representantes de la tribu Cnemeplatiini en la Península Ibérica y Canarias, se establece tras el estudio de los tipos disponibles. Se corrigen varios errores de trabajos recientes. Cnemeplatia laticeps (Wollaston, 1857) descrita de Madeira, se cita como nuevo para la isla de La Palma, Islas Canarias. Cnemeplatia atropos Costa, 1847 es tratado como una especie válida. Cnemeplatia rufa Tournier, 1874 stat. rest. y C. mouchampsi Espa ol 1948 stat. nov. son consideradas como especies válidas, no como subespecies geográficas de Cnemeplatia atropos Costa, 1847, en base a su morfología. El nombre Cnemeplatia rufa Tournier, 1874 tiene prioridad sobre C. atropos africana Kaszab, 1938 syn. nov. Se presentan figuras de los caracteres morfológicos discriminatorios para identificar las diferentes especies descritas de Europa y NO de áfrica.

Abstract: Se define Enfermedad Celíaca como una intolerancia permanente a determinadas proteínas que se encuentran en el trigo, la cebada, el centeno y la avena. Las harinas no permitidas para los celíacos son más difíciles de manejar, porque no forman la red proteica de gluten que le confiere a los amasados la característica elasticidad y esponjosidad. En la mayoría de los casos se recurre a ingredientes altos en grasa y sodio. Esta situación resulta de gran importancia para la salud ya que el consumo excesivo de sodio es la principal causa de hipertensión arterial. Con el objetivo de disminuir el contenido de sodio de las preparaciones se ha desarrollado un leudante químico bajo en sodio que, junto a una disminución en el agregado de sal, ha significado un aporte sustantivo en varias recetas de panes consumidos habitualmente por esta población. Se han logrado panes saludables con características sensoriales similares a sus originales que los hacen sumamente aceptables por la población para la cual fueron dise ados. In order to reduce the sodium content of the preparations we have developed a lowsodium chemical leavening which, together with a reduction in salt, has contributed substantially in various recipes of breads usually consumed by this population. We have obtained healthy breads with sensory characteristics similar to the original ones that make them highly acceptable in the population for which they were designed.

Abstract: manufacturing of moulds by rapid prototyping processes, such as stereolithography (sl), is considered an important technology to aid the development of injection moulding plastic products. although this technology shows significant advantages, the lifetime of moulds may be drastically be reduced due to strong adhesion between the injected polymer and the material of the sl mould. this work investigates the use of ni-p metal coating obtained by electroless deposition on sl moulds manufactured with the resin dsm somos 7110. specimens of pa6.6 have been injected into sl moulds manufactured with and without metal coating. the results showed that the electroless metal coating process can be an appropriate alternative to allow moulding of small series of pa6.6 parts in sl moulds.

Abstract: Las papas prefritas congeladas son mayormente destinadas a los servicios de comidas rápidas incorporándose recientemente al hogar. El método más utilizado para su elaboración es la fritura, el cual se caracteriza por la absorción de lípidos y por menor pérdida de nutrientes termolábiles, lo que puede contribuir a la preservación de vitamina C frente a otros métodos de cocción. Este estudio se propone comparar el contenido de vitamina C y grasas en variedades de papas prefritas y frescas, fritas en aceite de oliva y en aceite de girasol. Se trabajó con cuatro variedades de papas industriales prefritas congeladas corte fino, corte grueso, bravas y barbacoa y una variedad de papas frescas monalisa. Los resultados obtenidos de los ba os de fritura en aceite de oliva y en aceite de girasol muestran diferencias significativas en el contenido de vitamina C y grasas totales en papas fritas. Las papas fritas monalisa obtuvieron menor contenido de grasa y mayor contenido de vitamina C que las papas industriales. Se demostró que el factor "relación superficie volumen" de las papas influencia la magnitud de impregnación de grasa y la pérdida de vitamina C por destrucción térmica durante la fritura. Se observó una mejor preservación de la vitamina C en papas fritas en aceite de oliva. Frozen pre-fried potatoes are mainly destined for snack food services, and have recently been incorporated in homes. The most commonly used method for their preparation is frying, which is characterized by the absorption of lipids and less labile nutrient loss, which may contribute to the preservation of vitamin C over other methods of cooking. The purpose of this study is to compare the content of vitamin C and fats in a variety of pre-fried and fresh potatoes, fried in olive oil and in sunflower oil. Four varieties of frozen pre-fried industrial potatoes were used; thin sliced, thick sliced, brave and barbecue as well as a variety of fresh potatoes monalisa. The results obtained from the frying baths, both olive and sunflower, show significant differences in the content of vitamin C and total fats in fried potatoes. The fried potatoes monalisa showed lower fat content and higher content of vitamin C than the industrial potatoes. It was shown that the "surface-volume relation" factor of the potatoes influences the magnitude of impregnation of fat and the loss of vitamin C due to thermal destruction while frying. A better preservation of vitamin C in potatoes fried in olive was observed.
