Revista Técnica de la Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad del Zulia , 2007,
Abstract: foam generation represents in some industrial processes a serious drawback in the operation of many types of equipment that limit mass and heat transfer. difficulties associated with the use of antifoams, have led to investigate alternative methods of foam breaking. this study considers the aqueous foam breaking by mechanical methods using parallel metallic meshes. in this study, the residence time, the gas flow, the mesh holes size were considered. stable foams were formed using a sodium dodecil sulphate solution and xanthans gums. it was found that, depending on the separator used, the drained liquid volume increases when the flow of gas is increased, until a limiting value where the foam refines and does not collapse. it was also found that there is an optimum foam breakage when there is a minimum separation of the meshes and the relation between the holes size of the meshes and the bubble size is between 1.5 and 2, when gas flow is low.
Desestabilización mecánica de espumas acuosas. Aplicación de separadores estáticos Mechanical breaking of aqueous foams using static separators

American Journal of Computational Mathematics (AJCM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ajcm.2014.43021
Abstract:

In this work we apply the differential transformation method or DTM for solving some classes of Lane-Emden type equations as a model for the dimensionless density distribution in an isothermal gas sphere \"\" and as a study of the gravitational potential of (white-dwarf) stars ,\"\" which are nonlinear ordinary differential equations on the semi-infinite domain [1] [2]. The efficiency of the DTM is illustrated by investigating the convergence results for this type of the Lane-Emden equations. The numerical results show the reliability and accuracy of this method.

A Survey of the Implementation of Numerical Schemes for Linear Advection Equation  [PDF]
Pedro Pablo Cárdenas Alzate
Advances in Pure Mathematics (APM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/apm.2014.48052
Abstract:

The interpolation method in a semi-Lagrangian scheme is decisive to its performance. Given the number of grid points one is considering to use for the interpolation, it does not necessarily follow that maximum formal accuracy should give the best results. For the advection equation, the driving force of this method is the method of the characteristics, which accounts for the flow of information in the model equation. This leads naturally to an interpolation problem since the foot point is not in general located on a grid point. We use another interpolation scheme that will allow achieving the high order for the box initial condition.

Journal of Applied Mathematics and Physics (JAMP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jamp.2014.213135
Abstract: We establish the conditions for the compute of the Global Truncation Error (GTE), stability restriction on the time step and we prove the consistency using forward Euler in time and a fourth order discretization in space for Heat Equation with smooth initial conditions and Dirichlet boundary conditions.
A Special Case of Variational Formulation for Two-Point Boundary Value Problem in L2(Ω)  [PDF]

Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/am.2015.64065
Abstract: We consider the nonlinear boundary value problems for elliptic partial differential equations and using a maximum principle for this problem we show uniqueness and continuous dependence on data. We use the strong version of the maximum principle to prove that all solutions of two-point BVP are positives and we also show a numerical example by applying finite difference method for a two-point BVP in one dimension based on discrete version of the maximum principle.

Alegría,Isabel; lay,Siu-lin; Calderón,Carlos; Cárdenas,Manuel;
Estudios pedagógicos (Valdivia) , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-07052010000200001
Abstract: the main objective of this study was the construction and validation of the academic talent's identification scale (edita), based on the self-report of the characteristics associated with that construct. for this purpose, a sample of 268 students was chosen, 127 of fifth elementary year and 141 of the freshman year. those students were attending public, subsidized and private schools in antofagasta city. the results obtained through the analysis of data indicate that the scale could be considered valid and reliable to detect the characteristics associated with the academic talent in the above mentioned population.

Revista Cubana de Salud Pública , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0864-34662011000200006
Abstract: objective to describe the various ways in which the family faces up to drug dependency in teenagers seen at the havana's center for treatment of drug dependency in adolescents. methods cross-sectional descriptive research study conducted in this institution in 2009, a place where a comprehensive multidisciplinary service is offered to treat drug dependency and its complications in adolescents and young people. the exploration of the various ways in which the family faced up to this problem was based on in-depth interviews. the analytical unit was the group of relatives living with the drug-dependent patients. the primary source of information was the chosen "family key informant". the wide range of data was processed by the taylor-bogdan′s algorithm. results several analysis categories, concepts and proposals emerged, which helped to make a description of the ways the family faced up to drug dependency before the confirmation of the disease up to the moment of the study. it could be observed that the mother prevailed as the regulator of the family relationships with the sick son/daughter at different times of his/her life; there were some family behaviours in favour of justifying and covering up actions associated to drug consumption by adolescents, the family perception of loss of control over them as well as the denial of family responsibility over the patient's disease and treatment. conclusions this research identified a sort of evasive way of family facing up to drug dependency as well as predominant group behaviour before the situations linked to the history of substance consumption by adolescents in the process of transition from health to disease.
