EFECTO DEL CONSUMO DE HARINA DE MAíZ FORTIFICADA CON ACIDO FóLICO SOBRE LOS NIVELES DE FOLATOS SANGUíNEOS EN MUJERES DE EDAD FéRTIL EFFECT OF FORTIFIED FLOUR CONSUMPTION ON BLOOD FOLATE LEVELS IN WOMEN OF CHILDBEARING AGE

Fortification of foods is now widely used to prevent folate deficiency. Folic acid has been added to corn flour and its efficacy in the prevention of NTD has been proved. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of the intake of fortified corn-flour versus non fortified flour and to folic acid supplement, on blood folate levels in women of childbearing age. Forty-five women were randomized into three groups according to: (A) use of fortified flour (n=18), (B) non-fortified flour (n=17); (C) supplementation with 5 mg of oralfolic acid (n=10). All females answer a dietary and anthropometric questionnaire applied once a month during three months. Blood red cell (IE) and plasmatic (P) folate were measured at the beginning and at the end of the study; also the DNA analysis for the 677T mutation was performed. The corn flour was provided to groups A and B during three months, to be consumed as eight tortillas daily. Group C received 5.0 mg tablet of folic acid (Valdecasas ), once per week, during three months. IE and P folate and hematocrito were significantly increased in women from group C (p<0.05). Only plasmatic folic acid l

Abstract: The standardized nursing care plan can be used as a means through which the nurse will assess and identify the particular needs of the blood donor. To draw up the care plan, we have conducted the evaluation on the basis of the Marjory Gordon’s functional health patterns. The more prevailing diagnosis according to the NANDA taxonomy have been identified, results have been established according to the NOC (Nursing Outcomes Classification) taxonomy, and nursing interventions have been suggested according to the NIC (Nursing Interventions Classification) taxonomy. Also, certain potential complications, which are infrequent, must be observed and controlled in the blood donation process. Our main aim with this article has been to offer to professionals resources that grant to the caring activity scientific rigor, professional recognition and an unique and valid tool to evaluate the assistance with the best levels of quality for the blood donor.

Abstract: In this paper, the evolution of the various components of the broad monetary aggregate M3 at which the ECB attaches leading indicator properties of inflation expectations in the euro area is studied. During the fifteen years that the ECB defines and executes the stability-oriented monetary policy, M3 has not followed the developments that initially would be compatible with the inflation target announced. For its part, the components of the aggregate, in terms of their participation in it, have followed different paths. In this paper, an analysis of stationarity and cointegration of the series is done. The causes of such behavior in the light of the evolution of prices, interest rates and economic growth are searched, using dummy variables for periods of greater instability in the financial markets. We employ the Dynamic Ordinary Least Square (DOLS) estimator, augmenting the estimated relation with lead and lag differences of the explanatory variables to control for endogeneity and serial correlation of the regressors.

Critical analysis of the role of universities in the creation and survival of university spin-offs. Proposal of an academic model of support

Advances in Management and Applied Economics , 2012,
Abstract: The survival of University spin-offs (USOs) has been directly related to their role as product innovators and as technology transfer agents for years. However, the lack of management abilities and support to get financial resources and strategic alliances make their survival more difficult than for other companies. Academic support would able to increase the competitive advantage of the USOs compared to other innovative spin-offs. However, the number of Spanish new firms is smaller than those of the other countries and their impact over the economy is quite low. This paper investigates differential factors of survival of USOS in Spain compared to spin-offs not linked to universities by means of the characteristics of the founder, the environment surrounding the new firm and the spin-off company itself. Based on the Helm&Mauroner model, our work advances the study of the survival dynamic of these companies and identifies measures to be implemented by the university government to support the survival of USOs. Finally, an academic model for USOs support is presented, considering the role of USOs′ founders, academic institutions and government, a proposal of policies and a set of assessment indicators to control the success of the measures
