Manifestaciones neuropsiquiátricas de la infección por el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana
Casanova Sotolongo,Pedro; Casanova Carrillo,Pedro; Casanova Carrillo,Carlos; Lima Mompó,Gilda; Aldana Vilas,Laura; Acosta Batista,Miriam;
Revista Cubana de Medicina Militar , 2002,
Abstract: a literature review of the nervous system disorders in human inmunodeficiency virus infection (hiv) is made. the importance of nervous disease lies in the wide variety of causes and frequency. it has been pointed out that neuropsychiatric lesions occur due to the direct action of the virus itself or the opportunistic infections or accompanying neoplasias. the mechanism of these disorders is the serious, progressive and irreversible deterioration of the immune system by hiv, which seems to be parallel to nerve involvement, in which t-lymphocyte and monocyte-macrophage act as target cells. the most common observed diseases were dementia-aids combination, aseptic meningitis, vacuolar myelopathy and others. psychiatric and psychological disorders may be dementia-dependent or isolated even in subjects without other aids-related symptoms. the successful use of anti-retroviral therapy in life extension poses new challenges derived from the transforming process into a more chronic disease.
Measles in a Neonatal Unit during Epidemic Period in 2011  [PDF]

Advances in Infectious Diseases (AID) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/aid.2012.24020
Abstract: The incident of the measles has diminished in the last decades thanks to the widespread use of the vaccine in The United States and Europe. Nevertheless, recently we are seeing new epidemics of measles due to the lack of coverage in some social areas. Measles during pregnancy is associated with high maternal morbidity and mortality, being a frequent cause of abortion in preterm deliveries. We report two cases of measles attended in the Unit of Neonatology held coinciding with the epidemic lived in this area during the last year.

Educación y mortalidad diferencial de adultos: Provincia de Córdoba, República Argentina
Peláez, Enrique;Acosta, Laura;
Papeles de población , 2011,
Abstract: the present work performs an analysis of the educational situation and its relation with the differenced mortality of the province of cordoba, argentina. the distribution of adult population is studied by literacy, age and sex; later, the same analysis is carried out for the highest schooling level attained, being found that young generations have better schooling level than the previous. in a second phase, we carried out a longitudinal analysis of the 50-60 years of age cohort from the 1980 census by instruction level, and tracing it through the 1991 and 2001 censuses. it is detected that the proportion of adults with higher schooling increases, while the proportion of less instructed decreases; this indicates a differential mortality by educational level. this is verified when calculating life expectancy at the 25 differential years by instruction and sex, using information from vital statistics.
Discordance for fetal anencephaly in a dichorionic twin pregnancy: A case report  [PDF]
Joana Batista, Laura Raposo, Ana Sousa, Isabel Cerveira
Open Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OJOG) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojog.2013.37097
Abstract:

Anencephaly is a frequent and easily diagnosed condition affecting twin pregnancies with higher incidence than singletons. Discordance for anencephaly in twins raises management dilemmas about the best approach to the situation. The authors report a successful case of a 33 years old woman who had a dichorionic twin pregnancy resulting from ICSI, with discordance for anencephaly. Diagnosis was performed at 13 weeks during first trimester ultrasound screening. A selective feticide with intrathoracic injection of KCl at 13 + 2 weeks was performed with no complications. The normal fetus proceeded with an uneventful pregnancy with spontaneous vaginal delivery at 40 weeks, weighting 3110 g. Management of twin pregnancies discordant for fetal anencephaly is far from being consensual. Two options are considered: selective feticide or expectant management, with serial ultrasound surveillance. In the latter option, amniodrainage or selective feticide may become options if polyhydramnios develops later in pregnancy. Therapeutic strategy requires an individual approach considering chorionicity, gestational age and all the risks of miscarriage, preterm labor and fetal demise to which these pregnancies are particularly exposed.

Urban bird fauna of Tramandaí and Imbé beaches, north coast, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
Lisiane Acosta Ramos,Rafael Batista Daudt
Biotemas , 2005,
Abstract: This paper examines a list of 27 bird species, observed during 31 months, in the urban areas of Tramandaí and Imbé beaches, Rio Grande do Sul’s north coast, Brazil. During the sampling it was possible to observe the reduction in the number of habitats and consequently the decrease in the number of species. The best-represented order was the Passeriformes, with 16 families on the list. It was also possible to observe the presence of summer visitor-species.
De la estetización de la política a la comunidad desobrada
Acosta,María del Rosario; Quintana,Laura;
Revista de Estudios Sociales , 2010,
Abstract: this article shows that the notion of an "aesthetization of politics" entails much more than the mere translation of aesthetic criteria into politics. the task of thinking about a non-aesthetiziced political realm, therefore, demands even more radical readings than those suggested, for instance, by the proposal of the "politicization of art." following nancy, lacoue-labarthe and esposito, we argue that an aesthetiziced notion of politics seeks to turn the political into a work of art. this idea has predominated through the western tradition since it is precisely in this context that community is understood as a "work" to be produced, as an activity proper to subjectivity (either individual or collective) that involves the "production" of its own essence. the article concludes that the urgent interruption of aesthetiziced politics demands a renewed consideration of our being-in-common, which takes into account the possibility of a radical alterity and our openness to finitude.
