Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2012000600012
Abstract: this study aimed to estimate fruit and vegetable intake and identify associated factors among schoolchildren in santa catarina state, brazil. a cross-sectional study was conducted with 4,964 students from public and private schools in eight districts in the state, analyzing socioeconomic and anthropometric data and dietary intake. adequate fruit and vegetable intake was defined as five or more servings per day. poisson regression was performed to test associations between fruit and vegetable intake and independent variables (p < 0.05). adequate intake was found in 2.7% of children, while 26.6% of the sample did not consume any fruits and vegetables. in the analysis of the association between independent variables and adequate fruit and vegetable intake in the total sample, only geographic region (residents in western santa catarina) and consumption of candy were significantly associated. in the stratified analysis by sex, for boys, only geographic region was associated, while among girls, region and candy consumption were significantly associated with adequate fruit and vegetable intake. the findings indicate the need for specific strategies in the school community to improve fruit and vegetable intake by schoolchildren.

Revista Brasileira de Epidemiologia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-790X2010000400011
Abstract: this study aimed to estimate the prevalence of dissatisfaction with body image and associated socio-economic, behavioral and dietary factors in female university students from a public university in florianopolis, sc. body image was assessed by the body shape questionnaire (bsq-34) in a sample of 220 students. nutritional status was investigated by body mass index (bmi), waist circumference (wc), and body fat percentage (%bf). socio-economic characteristics (age, monthly household income, and parental schooling) as well as energy intake and going on restrictive diets were also investigated. factors associated with dissatisfaction with body image were analyzed by multivariate poisson regression analysis. the prevalence of dissatisfaction with body image was 47.3% (95% ci 40.7; 53.9). nutritional status by bmi and going on a diet to lose weight were the variables associated with body dissatisfaction. results showed a high prevalence of indicators of rejection of their physical fitness among university students, which signals toward the need for nutritional education actions at universities in order to clarify and prevent abnormal eating attitudes among students.

Abstract: University admission provides the adoption of new behaviors, which can affect the health of students. The objective of this study was to identify the characteristics and factors associated with the nutritional status of female university students in Florianopolis, SC, and to assess their prevalence. Socioeconomic and behavioral variables were obtained by a structured questionnaire. Nutritional status was assessed based on body mass index, waist circumference and body fat percentage. Food consumption data were obtained through the application of a 24-hour food recall. The chi-square test was used to select independent variables associated with body mass index. Response rate in this study was 86.6% (total of 220 students). Most students were teenagers (57.7%), lived with parents (69.5%), were sedentary (55.9%), and eutrophic (72.3%). The prevalence was 15.9% for underweight and 11.8% for overweight. Breakfast was the main meal most frequently omitted (16.9%), and most students (79.0%) had an energy intake below2,200 kcal. Energy intake was the only variable inversely associated with nutritional status (p =0.0358). There is a need to implement educational health measures in universities in order to establish healthier lifestyle and eating habits.

Psychology (PSYCH) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2017.81004
Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the association between the stress levels of parents of children with cerebral palsy and the degree of functional impairment of their children, as well as to explore socio-demographic variables that may potentiate the effects of the motor impairment degree generating high or low/standard stress levels in 92 parents of children with cerebral palsy treated at a federal public hospital of reference in the state of Pará. The instruments used were the Socio-demographic Inventory (ISD), the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) and the Parenting Stress Index-short form (PSI/SF). Analyses were performed using SPSS version 20.0. The results showed a greater number of stressed parents in the Difficult Child subscale and a significant relation between the children classified with severe motor impairment and the manifestation of parenting stress. This research showed an approximate age range of children with cerebral palsy in both stressed and little stressed parent groups, but the presence of younger stressed parents in the group was observed. On the other hand, in the group of little stressed parents, a significant aspect found was the prolonged time of union of thecouple at the time of birth of the child with cerebral palsy. The findings of this study intend to contribute to the increase of research about the relation between stress in parents of children with cerebral palsy and the motor function of their children, a theme poorly addressed in national and international research.

Open Journal of Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases (OJEMD) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ojemd.2017.71004
Abstract: Obesity has reached pandemic proportions in the world. Who is to blame for this: the person or the State (or both?). An increase in diseases associated with excess weight is also worldwide reported, such as Diabetes, Hypertension and some types of cancers. Therefore, the economic impacts of these comorbidities are an important issue to be discussed by States and citizens. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) has set and classified obesity as a disease more than 30 years ago, the American Medical Society was until recently (2010) not so sure about this definition. This article discusses the relevance of the implementation of public health policies for prevention and control of obesity, along with the possible ethical limitations to these actions, considering the autonomy of individuals regarding their health.

Abstract: very often hydrochloric acid is employed in acidification operations aiming to dissolve the mineral matrix in petroleum wheel operations, which always require intense use of corrosion inhibitors. this work presents an evaluation of common indicators, phenolfthaleine, fluorescein, methylene blue, alizarine s and methyl orange, as corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in hcl 15% w/v at temperatures of 26, 40 and 60 oc. fluorescein and methyl orange show excelent corrosion inhibition efficiencies at 26 oc; however at 60 oc only fluorescein shows good corrosion inhibition when employed with alcohol and/or formaldehyde. for the fluorescein 1% w/v + formaldehyde 0.6% w/v mixture we present polarization and impedance curves and adsorption isotherms.
