Bacterial spot and early blight biocontrol by epiphytic bacteria in tomato plants
Lanna Filho, Roberto;Romeiro, Reginaldo da Silva;Alves, Eduardo;
Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2010001200007
Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate in vitro and in vivo biocontrol of bacterial spot (xanthomonas vesicatoria) and early blight (alternaria solani) by the epiphytic bacteria paenibacillus macerans and bacillus pumilus. tomato plants were previously sprayed with epiphytic bacteria, benzalkonium chloride and pbs buffer and, after four days, they were inoculated with a. solani and x. vesicatoria. to determine the phytopathogenic bacteria population, leaflet samples were collected from each treatment every 24 hours, for seven days, and plated on semi-selective medium. the effect of epiphytic bacteria over phytopathogens was performed by the antibiosis test and antagonistic activity measured by inhibition zone diameter. the epiphytic and benzalkonium chloride drastically reduced the severity of early blight and bacterial spot in comparison to the control (pbs). in detached leaflets, the epiphytic bacteria reduced in 70% the number of phytopathogenic bacteria cells in the phylloplane. the antibiosis test showed that the epiphytic bacteria efficiently inhibit the phytopathogens growth. in all the bioassays, the epiphytic bacteria protect tomato plants against the phytopathogens
MODELOS LINEARES E N?O-LINEARES DE USO DE NUTRIENTES PARA FORMULA??O DE DIETAS DE RUMINANTES
Lanna, Dante Pazzanese Duarte;Tedeschi, Luis Orlindo;Beltrame Filho, Jo?o Ant?nio;
Scientia Agricola , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-90161999000200031
Abstract: the costs of beef cattle production were estimated for: 1) least-cost diets (dcm) formulated using traditional linear programming; and 2) maximum-profit diets (dlm) formulated using a non-linear program based on the cornell net carbohydrate and protein system adjusted to brazilian conditions. the proposed model (rlm - 1.0) minimizes the cost per unit gain while attending energy, protein, and mineral requirements. the production costs were simulated using diets programmed through both methods (dcm and dlm). performance parameters for the animals, carcass selling prices, feed composition and feed prices were representative of those available at three different states in brazil. the dcm diets had 68% of tdn and 13% of protein, typical of brazilian feedlot diets. the dlm diets converged by the program had higher tdn values and consequently higher rates of gain were attained. although the daily cost per animal was higher for dlm diets, cost per unit gain was lower as compared to dcm. this difference was greater with decreasing concentrate prices. in conclusion it is recommended that diets should be formulated using non-linear programming systems, which are capable of simulating growth and corresponding nutrient requirements. least-cost tools should be used with caution in different production environments.
Análise das opera??es de cross hedge do bezerro e do hedge do boi gordo no mercado futuro da BM&F
Silveira, Rodrigo Lanna Franco da;Ferreira Filho, Joaquim Bento de Souza;
Revista de Economia e Sociologia Rural , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-20032003000400008
Abstract: the aim of the study is to analyze the feeder cattle cross hedge at bm&f futures market verifying the real need of the existence of futures contract for this commodity. basis risk of these operations was calculated, as well as the optimal hedge ratios and the respective effectiveness in the main commercialization regions of bovine cattle in brazil, for the period comprised between september of 1995 and february of 2001. the same analyzes were carried for the live cattle hedge. the optimum hedge ratio appeared high in the cross hedge (between 37% and 49%) and in the own hedge (between 58% and 63%). the own hedge figures mean a 50% reduction in price risk when hedging at the optimal ratio, a value that drops consistently to about 1,5% for all regions when the cross hedge is considered. the main conclusion of the study is that the bm&f live cattle future markets are quite effective as a price risk reduction strategy for the own hedge operations, but lack effectiveness in this sense for the feeder cattle cross hedge. that is caused by the high basis risk of these operations, around 80% higher than the risk associated to the live cattle hedge during the contract maturity week considered in this period. this way, the results show the bm&f's hit for the recent introduction of the feeder cattle futures contract.
MODELOS LINEARES E N O-LINEARES DE USO DE NUTRIENTES PARA FORMULA O DE DIETAS DE RUMINANTES
Lanna Dante Pazzanese Duarte,Tedeschi Luis Orlindo,Beltrame Filho Jo?o Ant?nio
Scientia Agricola , 1999,
Lanna, Marcos;
Horizontes Antropológicos , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-71832001000200013
Abstract: focussing on the fact that marshall sahlins' work revolves around the lévy-strauss's theory of exchange, this article reinterprets the analysis of the first on the "trans-pacific sector of the 'world system'". rather than a critique of sahlins, this article proposes to further elaborate the latter's demonstration that the comprehension of "native" (or autochthonous, or indigenous) systems of exchange is a necessary condition for the comprehension of wider relations, such as those between these systems and their "capitalist" (or "occidental", etc.) counterparts. this leads us to minimize the distinction between inter- and intra-cultural exchanges, a conclusion reinforced by a rapid look at the notion of exchange in the elementary structures of kinship presented at the end of the article.
As sociedades contra o Estado existem?: Reciprocidade e poder em Pierre Clastres
Lanna, Marcos;
Mana , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93132005000200004
Abstract: this article critically evaluates p. clastres's contribution to our understanding of power, with particular emphasis on his notion of "society against the state". it demonstrates that clastres's critique of lévi-strauss does not exclude a particular understanding of what he calls 'reciprocal exchange' and also indicates the extent to which the author's reflections are based on an understanding of the notion of reciprocity which mistakes it simultaneously for symmetry, equivalence and equality. the article likewise shows that the notion of "society against the state" depends on a specific kind of exchange relationship between 'society' and 'the state'. the existence of this exchange - explicitly denied by clastres - is at once implicitly and unconsciously presumed by him.
Sobre Marshall Sahlins e as "cosmologias do capitalismo"
Lanna, Marcos;
Mana , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93132001000100006
Abstract: this paper reveals the central position that the article "cosmologies of capitalism" occupies in the work of marshall sahlins. at the same time, it suggests criticisms of some of sahlin?s propositions, but does so by assuming a posture internal to the author?s work. this perspective stresses the fact the "trans-pacific sector of the world system" is, indeed, composed of a system of exchanges, but that these exchanges serve to do much more than to inter-connect functionally different societies. the present paper radicalises this argument and tries to show how an anthropology of exchange can be the basis for the study of the history of any indigenous society and of its contacts with capitalist realities.
Nota sobre Marcel Mauss e o ensaio sobre a dádiva
Lanna, Marcos;
Revista de Sociologia e Política , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-44782000000100010
Abstract: this article analyses m. mauss's classic essai sur le don, at the light of recent theoretical developments in anthropology. it stresses mauss's contribution to the understanding of the political dimension of gift exchange, as well as of its universality, ulteriorly demonstrated by c.lévi-strauss to be constituted as a formal and abstract principle, not an empirical fact. taking this principle as its starting point, the article evaluates the thesis that the gift is the foundation of human sociability and communication, as well as the presence (or absence) of the gift and its different modes of institucionalization in several capitalist and non-capitalist societies that were analysed by mauss.
Sobre a comunica??o entre diferentes antropologias
Lanna, Marcos;
Revista de Antropologia , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-77011999000100013
Abstract: the article analyses some criticisms that have been made to c. lévi-strauss's anthropology, focusing on those made by c. geertz, given the fact that the latter have had great influence in contemporary anthropology. in this context, the article emphasizes the importance of lévi-strauss's contribution to important themes, such as the relation of anthropology and politics as well as the political aspects of anthropological practice. exactly because of the fact that those themes have arisen great interest of anthropologists of several different theoretical perspectives, and at the same time have not been developed by the french master, the article aims to indicate in an explicit manner the importance of lévi-strauss's contribution to their analysis.
Sobre Marshall Sahlins e as "cosmologias do capitalismo"
Lanna Marcos
Mana , 2001,
