Abstract: Using the concept of bioisosterismo, the new analogs isoxazole were designed from the molecular modification of grandisin and veraguensin neolignans, which have a grouping that is a furan ring bioisóstero isoxazole. In order to obtain more potent compounds, and better physical and chemical characteristics, our research group synthesized six analogues isoxazole neolignans. These reactions were performed of 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between oximes chlorine and terminal acetylenes previously synthesized. The reaction system CuSO4.5H2O/Ascorbate Sodium / KHCO3, CH2Cl2/THF was used, and under this condition were obtained isoxazole six analogues with yields ranging from 71% To 90%. The compounds were sent for testing anti-Leishmania activity and anti-trypanosome.

Abstract: echovirus (echo) 30 or human enterovirus b is the most frequent enterovirus associated with meningitis cases. epidemics and outbreaks of this disease caused by echo 30 have occurred in several countries. in brazil, echo 30 has been isolated from sporadic cases and outbreaks that occurred mainly in the south and southeast regions. we used rt-pcr to examine echo 30 isolates from meningitis cases detected from march 2002 to december 2003 in belém, state of pará, in northern brazil. the patients were attended in a basic health unit (state health secretary of pará), where cerebrospinal fluid (csf) was collected and stored in liquid nitrogen. weekly visits were made by technicians from evandro chagas institute to the health unit and samples were stored at -70oc in the laboratory until use. hep-2 and rd cell lines were used for viral isolation and neutralization with specific antisera for viral identification. rna extraction was made using trizol reagent. the rt-pcr was made in one step, and the total mixture (50 μl) was composed of: rna, reaction buffer, dntp, primers, rnase inhibitor, reverse transcriptase, taq polymerase and water. the products were visualized in agarose gel stained with ethidium bromide, visualized under uv light. among the 279 csf samples examined, 30 (10.7%) were ev positive, 29 being echo 30 and one was cox b. nineteen echo 30 were examined with rt-pcr; 18 tested positive (762 and 494 base pairs). the use of this technique permitted viral identification in less time than usual, which benefits the patient and is of importance for public-health interventions.

Abstract: Objective: To assess the impact of the “Dentistry for Infants” early dental care program run by Jacareí County (SP) by comparing the caries of individuals participating and not participating in this program. Methods: In total, 300 children between 0 and 48 months old were assessed in the following two groups: infants not participating in the program (G1, n = 100) and infants participating in the program (G2, n = 200). Each group was further divided according to age in subgroups of 0 to 24 months and 25 to 48 months. All children were clinically assessed for carious lesions using the visual-tactile method. The data were statistically analyzed using a paired Student’s t-test, Mann-Whitney test, and c2 test at a 5% significance level. Results: There was a significant difference in the prevalence (P) and mean index of deciduous teeth (deft) (C) that were decayed, indicated for extraction and filled, and the highest values were observed in G1 (p < 0.0001). The values were as follows: PG1, 73%; PG2, 22%; CG1, 3.45 ± 3.84; and CG2, 0.66 ± 1.57. Conclusion: Participating in the program positively impacted the infants’ oral health.
Juli?o, Letícia;
História (S?o Paulo) , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-90742011000100006
Abstract: this study analyzes the urban representations generated as a consequence of the rupture experienced at the time of the transfer of the capital of minas gerais, in the last decade of the 19th century. the construction of a modern city, belo horizonte, as the new capital of minas gerais, managed to encapsulate the newly-installed brand of republican power in brazil, replacing the old ouro preto, seat of government and indisputable symbol of colonial domain and the administration of the recently-deposed monarchy. the contemporaneous urban images evident in political discourse, in chronicles, newspapers, sundry records and even literary writings are expressive of a new urban sensibility emerging from the process of the capital's transference. apparent are feelings and perceptions that oscillate between nostalgia, enchantment and fear caused by the simultaneous actions of the abandonment of one capital city and the invention of another. many of these images have been incorporated into the urban imagination and still contribute today to the formulations of the identity of both cities - ouro preto and belo horizonte.
