LACLAU,ERNESTO;
Cuadernos del Cendes , 2006,
Abstract: this article offers a continuation of ernesto laclau′s controversy with slavoj zizek, initiated in previous works. key issues here are the interpretation of the category ?subject?, the conceptualization of the psychoanalysis status, in particular the lacanian theory, and the notion of ?social heterogeneity?. the reading of marxism history is central to the argument construction, as is the relationship between the categories ?people? and ?class struggle?. the concepts of ?hegemony? in political theory, ?empty signifier? in the configuration of signifying systems, and the ?object a? of the psychoanalytical theory, are essential steps in the organization of the theoretical approach posited in this essay.
LACLAU,ERNESTO;
Revista de ciencia política (Santiago) , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-090X2009000300007
Abstract: in this interview, ernesto laclau begins by tracing his intellectual evolution, which has shifted from a latin american marxism to post-marxism with gramscian and lacanian influents. thereafter, the interview addresses the debate that laclau has been facing with the notions of multitude and event developed by toni negri and alain badiou respectively. lastly, the interview discusses the notions of populism, hegemony and contra-hegemony developed by laclau in his late works, having always as an explicit reference the latin-american political setting and particularly the current bolivian process.

Laclau,Martín;
Revista de historia del derecho , 2011,
Abstract: this work deals with the philosophical influences in alberdi's thought. in the first place, the author underscores the contribution of romantic historicism, which, following lerminier, is subdued, by a "philosophical element" composed of principles not subject to variations. the contents of that philosophical element are expounded in accordance with the doctrine of jouffroy's natural law. leroux, in turn, contributes with his formulation of the law of progress, approaching the progressive development of each people as part and parcel of the progressive development of humanity.

Applying Sewage Sludge to Eucalyptus grandis Plantations: Effects on Biomass Production and Nutrient Cycling through Litterfall

Applied and Environmental Soil Science , 2011, DOI: 10.1155/2011/710614
Abstract: In most Brazilian cities sewage sludge is dumped into sanitary landfills, even though its use in forest plantations as a fertilizer and soil conditioner might be an interesting option. Sewage sludge applications might reduce the amounts of mineral fertilizers needed to sustain the productivity on infertile tropical soils. However, sewage sludge must be applied with care to crops to avoid soil and water pollution. The aim of our study was to assess the effects of dry and wet sewage sludges on the growth and nutrient cycling of Eucalyptus grandis plantations established on the most common soil type for Brazilian eucalypt plantations. Biomass production and nutrient cycling were studied over a 36-month period in a complete randomized block design. Four experimental treatments were compared: wet sewage sludge, dry sludge, mineral fertilizer, and no fertilizer applications. The two types of sludges as well as mineral fertilizer increased significantly the biomass of Eucalyptus trees. Wood biomass productions 36 months after planting were similar in the sewage sludge and mineral fertilization treatments (about 80?tons?ha?1) and 86% higher than in the control treatment. Sewage sludge application also affected positively leaf litter production and significantly increased nutrient transfer among the components of the ecosystem. 1. Introduction Sewage sludge resulting from the treatment of urban liquid residue, channeled to treatment stations through the sewage system, is a residue rich in organic matter. This sludge corresponds to only 1% of the volume of sewage waste, but the treatment and final disposal represents 20 to 40% of the operational costs of a treatment station [1]. Several alternatives exist for disposing of the sludge produced in sewage treatment (solid fraction), such as dumping in sanitary landfills or incineration. The solid fraction of sewage sludge can also be applied as fertilizer in agroecosystems, although it must be used very carefully in order to reduce the risks of health-related problems for the population, damage to the environment, or financial loss to farmers [2]. Applying organic matter at the soil surface to improve its fertility is a traditional practice. Sewage sludge use in agricultural production systems has become an interesting alternative to discarding it, as it may increase overall crop production [3]. Risks associated with sludge application in forest plantations are lower than in agriculture, since tropical Eucalyptus plantations are usually managed to produce fire wood, charcoal, boards, or pulp and paper, and the final

Abstract: the present work had the objective to evaluate the increment in diameter of eucalyptus grandis trees for 24 months and its relationship with climatic variables and mineral fertilization. the trees were planted at spacing of 3x2 m and fertilized with potassium and sodium (planting, 6 and 12 months). twenty eucalypt trees were selected by treatment according with the distribution of basal area of the plantation and dendrometer bands were fixed at dbh. the results showed a clear effect of climate seasonality on the increment of eucalypt trees, with periods of maximum and minimum growth and a delay period (lag) of 28 days, due to the response of cambial activity to climate variations. the application of potassium in relationship of sodium and control promoted greater rate of increment growth of eucalypt trees, with values of 4.14; 3.28 and 3.08 cm, respectively.
