Abstract: The aim of this paper is to develop a neuro-fuzzy-sliding mode controller (NFSMC) with a nonlinear sliding surface for a coupled tank system. The main purpose is to eliminate the chattering phenomenon and to overcome the problem of the equivalent control computation. A first-order nonlinear sliding surface is presented, on which the developed sliding mode controller (SMC) is based. Mathematical proof for the stability and convergence of the system is presented. In order to reduce the chattering in SMC, a fixed boundary layer around the switch surface is used. Within the boundary layer, where the fuzzy logic control is applied, the chattering phenomenon, which is inherent in a sliding mode control, is avoided by smoothing the switch signal. Outside the boundary, the sliding mode control is applied to drive the system states into the boundary layer. Moreover, to compute the equivalent controller, a feed-forward neural network (NN) is used. The weights of the net are updated such that the corrective control term of the NFSMC goes to zero. Then, this NN also alleviates the chattering phenomenon because a big gain in the corrective control term produces a more serious chattering than a small gain. Experimental studies carried out on a coupled tank system indicate that the proposed approach is good for control applications.
A simple goal seeking navigation method for a mobile robot using human sense, fuzzy logic and reinforcement learning

Abstract: This paper proposes a new fuzzy logic-based navigation method for a mobile robot moving in an unknown environment. This method allows the robot obstacles avoidance and goal seeking without being stuck in local minima. A simple Fuzzy controller is constructed based on the human sense and a fuzzy reinforcement learning algorithm is used to fine tune the fuzzy rule base parameters. The advantages of the proposed method are its simplicity, its easy implementation for industrial applications, and the robot joins its objective despite the environment complexity. Some simulation results of the proposed method and a comparison with previous works are provided.

Abstract: In this work, we present a numerical model to solve the drift diffusion equations coupled with electromagnetic model, where all simulations codes are implemented using MATLAB code software. As first, we present a one-dimensional (1-D) PIN diode structure simulation achieved by solving the drift diffusion model (DDM). Backward Euler algorithm is used for the discretization of the proposed model. The aim is to accomplish time-domain integration. Also, finite different method (FDM) is considered to achieve space-Domain mesh. We introduced an iterative scheme to solve the obtained matrix systems, which combines the Gummel’s iteration with an efficient direct numerical UMFPACK method. The obtained solutions of the proposed algorithm provide the time and space distribution of the unknown functions like electrostatic potential and carrier’s concentration for the PIN diode. As second case, the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) technique is adopted to analyze the entire 3-D structure of the stripline circuit including the lumped element PIN diode. The microwave circuit is located in an unbounded medium, requiring absorbing boundaries to avoid nonphysical reflections. Active device results were presented and show a good agreement with other reference. Electromagnetic results are qualitatively in agreement with other results obtained using SILVACO-TCAD.

Abstract:

A Colpitts oscillator, working around a 3 GHz frequency, contains a double gate Metal Oxide Semiconductor transistor (DGMOS). A mixed-mode analysis is involved, applying a quantum model to the device, whereas the rest of the considered circuit is governed by Kirchhoff’s laws. The Linear Time Variant (LTV) model of phase noise is based on the Impulse Sensitivity Function of the Colpitts Oscillator which describes carefully the sensitivity of an oscillator to any impulse current injection in any node of the circuit. Finally, we improve the phase noise modeling, confronting some analytical developments to mixed-mode simulations.

Abstract:

A cascade is defined as an infinite row of equidistant similarly aerofoil bodies. The cascade is used to divert a flow stream with a minimal loss. The flow over an axial cascade presents a complicated intra blade fluid dynamic interaction that causes the flow to behave differently than the flow over a single aerofoil blade. A cascade tunnel in which different shapes of cascades could be tested for performance evaluation has been build. An axial flat plate cascade of 70 mm chord, 215 mm span and 0.55 pitch chord ratio has been tested in this tunnel for evaluating its aerodynamic performance. The results depict that the Reynolds number, incidence and blade angle of the cascade control the aerodynamic performance of the axial cascade.

Performance Evaluation of Mini-sinks Mobility Using Multiple Paths in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: This paper presents a new approach based on the use of many data collectors, which wedesignate Mini-Sinks (MSs), instead of a single sink to collect the data in order to improveWireless Sensor Network (WSN) performance. One or mode MS are mobile and move accordingto a controlled arbitrary mobility inside the sensor field in order to maintain a fully-connectednetwork topology, collecting data within their coverage areas and forwarding it towards the singlemain sink. Energy Conserving Routing Protocol (ECRP), based on route diversity, is implementedin MSs and sensors in order to optimize the transmission cost of the forwarding scheme. A set ofmultiple routing paths between MSs and sensors is generated to distribute the global traffic overthe entire network. Simulations were performed in order to validate the performance of our newapproach. We compare the results obtained with those for a single static sink and mobile sink,and show that our approach can achieve better performances such as packet delivery ratio,throughput, end-to-end delay, network lifetime, residual energy, energy and routing diversityoverhead.
An Efficient Space-Time Coding Scheme for Time Dispersive MIMO Channels  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper, we introduce an efficient space-time coding scheme for time dispersive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) channels. Channel layering and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique are used in the proposed scheme. The proposed scheme is based on maximizing the distance between any two codewords. This is done by inserting an optimized phase shifts between the symbols in the same layer and between different layers. This way leads to the increase of the achieved diversity and coding gains. As a result, the performance of the system will be improved. Simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed scheme compared to the conventional schemes.
The Role of Morphology and Short Vowelization in Reading Morphological Complex Words in Arabic: Evidence for the Domination of the Morpheme/Root-Based Theory in Reading Arabic  [PDF]

Abstract: This study investigated the reading accuracy of 59 adult highly skilled native Arabic readers in reading morphological complex Arabic words in 6 reading conditions: Isolated words with short vowelization, isolated words without short vowelization, sentences with roots with short vowelization, sentences with roots without short vowelization, sentences without priming roots with short vowelization and sentences without priming roots without short vowelization. The results indicated that roots and short vowelization were good facilitators for these adults highly skilled readers in their reading accuracy of morphological complex Arabic words. The results are discussed in the light of the role of roots as autonomous semantic entities and that the complex morphology of Arabic needs short vowelization for accuracy in reading.

Abstract: Constantine, with a population of 480,000 and containing 90,000 households, generated 164,250 tons of solid waste in 2015 in which domestic waste is the primary source. The aim of this study was to assess the situation of municipal solid-waste (MSW) management in Constantine. Actually, the collection and transportation of solid waste is managed by the municipality, with a small participation of the private sector. More than 90% of the municipality solid waste is disposed and treated in an environmentally sound manner (landfill). Unfortunately, there is a poor culture with respect to the 3R principles (reduce, reuse, recycle) in Constantine leading to a rapid growth of waste generation which has overwhelmed the capacity of the already saturated available landfill. There remain important challenges in solid waste management for the municipal authorities in Constantine which include: the proper management of the financial resources, public education aimed at reduction and separating household waste and optimizing the existing collection system.

Abstract: Due to the importance of development and its impact on our life, in this paper we are going to elaborate on the Sustainable Development and its related issues. In the following, due to the essential role that GIScience can play on the success trend of Sustainable Development, GIScience will be defined and its importance will be discussed as an effective tool in its logical procedure of Sustainable Development. The decision making support systems—using Geo-information and spatial data—is merging increasingly into other disciplines design and techniques day by day. So It would be worth investigation on the technical aspects of sustainable development and its consideration in projects development in general, throughout the literature review and SD requirements. The successful sustained achievement will depend on clear “political” answerability for its reliability and local regulatory environment. It should be in harmony with the additional superior prescription and ruling at the national or international levels by the use and utilization of national spatial data infrastructure. The paper will ends up with a set of suggested practices in the development of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI).
