Analysis of Yellow Water in Liquor Fermentation with Sensor Array  [PDF]

Abstract: Yellow water is a by-product of liquor in the solid state fermentation process, and contains a large amount of nutrients, such as acids, esters, alcohols and aldehydes produced by fermentation. The components in the yellow water reflect the fermentation information to a certain extent, so the fermentation process can be monitored by detecting the yellow water component online. A sensor array detection device is designed for detecting yellow water. In addition, chemical titration is used to obtain data such as acidity, reducing sugar and starch of yellow water. Principal component analysis and discriminant function analysis were performed on the data; and a multivariate linear regression was used to establish a prediction model for the data. The results showed that the prediction bias for acidity and alcohol was small, 0.39 and 0.43, respectively.

Abstract: Three-dimensional (3D) carbon nanotube networks (CNNW) have been successfully constructed by a simple solution route for the first time. The as-obtained networks consist of the ordered alignment of nanotubes cross-linked with a joint-angle of approximately 90°. Also, the joint points in the networks are very stable and the hollowing joints are conducted with the neighbored carbon nanotubes. These network characteristics would receive much attention to the applications such as electrical conductivity and even mass transport. Further work found that the as-obtained CNNW and CNNW/silver composites can both be applied as NH3 gas sensors. The solution-phase technique for the construction of CNNWs made the assembling networks possible without introducing physical and complicated methodologies, providing an alternative way for the next generation carbon nanotube assembly.

Antioxidant Phenolic Compounds of Cassava (Manihot esculenta) from Hainan

Abstract: An activity-directed fractionation and purification process was used to isolate antioxidant components from cassava stems produced in Hainan. The ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions showed greater DPPH˙and ABTS?+ scavenging activities than other fractions. The ethyl acetate fraction was subjected to column chromatography, to yield ten phenolic compounds: Coniferaldehyde (1), isovanillin (2), 6-deoxyjacareubin (3), scopoletin (4), syringaldehyde (5), pinoresinol (6), p-coumaric acid (7), ficusol (8), balanophonin (9) and ethamivan (10), which possess significant antioxidant activities. The relative order of DPPH? scavenging capacity for these compounds was ascorbic acid (reference) > 6 > 1 > 8 > 10 > 9 > 3 > 4 > 7 > 5 > 2, and that of ABTS?+ scavenging capacity was 5 > 7 > 1 > 10 > 4 > 6 > 8 > 2 > Trolox (reference compound) > 3 > 9. The results showed that these phenolic compounds contributed to the antioxidant activity of cassava.

Abstract: Control of chaos in Colpitts oscillator by using Washout filter is studied. Firstly, normalization of the circuit and controlling equations are derived based on Washout filter technique. Then by adjusting the control parameters, chaos in Colpitts oscillator is controlled to stable equilibrium point or periodic state. Finally, the controlling result is analyzed simulation is done and the effectiveness of this control method is verified.

Abstract: More than thirty species and varieties of Fritillaria have been reported from Xinjiang, including many new taxa recently published. A revision of these was made based on mainly herbarium material and literature. As a result, seven species were recognized, including newly recorded F. stenanthera (Regel) Regel, and nine species and twenty-one varieties were reduced to synonyms.

Abstract: The differences between Epipogium japonicum Makino and E. roseum (D. Don) Lindl. are discussed based on a specimen recently collected from western Sichuan. The plants from western Sichuan formerly identified as E. roseum are truly E. japonicum. This species is disjunctively distributed in Japan, alpine region of western Sichuan and Taiwan of China.

Abstract: A pair of vicarious species disjunctly distributed in western North America and Himalaya-central Asia, Epipactis gigantea Dougl. ex Hook. and E. royleana Lindl., are illustrated and discussed taxonomically and phytogeographically. A distribution map is provided and the morphological differences between them are tabled.
