Abstract: The diffusion process of Sn in the transformation of Nb_6Sn_5 to Nb_3Sn has been studied.The experimental results show that the growth of Nb_3Sn laver is controlled by two processes,i.e. the short range diffusion of Sn which is responsihle for the inner layer with large grains,and the long,range diffusion of Sn which results in the outer layer with fine grains.It was found thai grain size depends on the reaction temperature.A model of Nb_3Sn growth based on the above processes was established and its solution was found to be in good agreement with ex- perimental results.

Abstract: Boundary conditions constructed by two typical geometrical config- urations related to the manufacturing methods of bronze process and tin-rich Nb tube method have been considered in a diffusion model in which the diffusion of Sn in CuSn matrix plays a major role is assumed. The dependence of thickness of Nb_3Sn layer on reaction time has been derived. It is shown that the growth rate of Nb_3Sn relates to the configuration of the superconductor, the geometrical parameters of Nb filaments and CuSn matrix. The theory are qualitatively consistent with the experimental results.

Abstract: Crystal structure of γ-Li_xFe_2O_3,inserted Li electrochemically,was studied by Moss-bauer spectroscopy together with X-ray diffraction,XPS and electrochemical method,Onthe insertion of Li at low current density,the crystal structure is keeping original spinel;while at higher current density or by thermal activation,owing to violent movement ofLi~+ ions,part of crystal structure transforms into rock type similar to face-centeredcubic structure of ferrous oxide.The transition channels during insertion of Li~+ ions andlimitation of Li~+ ions inserted were discussed.

Abstract: Effects of isochronal annealing on the positron annihilation of glassy Bi_(1.6)Pb_(0.4)Sr_(1.9)Ca_2Cu_(3.1)O_y(BPSCCO) have been reported. It is shown that the crystallization in- fluences obviously the positron annihilation characteristics of BPSCCO. A maximum is found inthe region of crystallization temperature in curves of mean lifetime and peak / wing ratio, one of Doppler lineshape parameter, with annealing temperature; the bulk lifetime of positron annihi-lation in the glassy state is longer than that in the crystalline one. Positron annihilation spectroscopy could be used for studying structure of glassy BPSCCO and its change with heattreatment.

Abstract: A modified liquid phase epitaxy apparatus for semiconductor materials was used to measure the solubility of GaAs in Bi.Two phase diagrams rich in Bi under H_2 and N_2 atmospheres were obtained according to the results of measurement.A new phenomenon,in which the parameter Q value(quantity of GaAs dissolved in Bi in fixed time/saturation quantitu,of GaAs in Bi)was different from each other at various temperatures and there existed a maxi- mum Q value at definite temperature,was observed.This phenomenon may be regarded as a common feature of a simple binary metallic system which has the phase diagram similar to that of Bi-GaAs.The difference observed from the dependence of Q values on temperature in both H_2 and N_2 atmospheres was discussed.

Abstract: Pattern recognition method is used for the investigation of stability,region of filled Ti_2Ni phases in multi-dimensional bond-parameter space.The filling of C,N and O atoms into T_6 octahedra consisting of atoms of earhy-transition elements makes the expansion of the stability region of Ti_2Ni phase,and the relative stability of AI_2Cu and MoSi_2 type com- pounds decreases after the introduction of non-metallic elements such as C,N and O.

Abstract: A mixed method of solution for contact stresses on rollers was suggested by the combina- tion of similitude principle.photoelastic method,Hertz's contact theory and numerical calculation.Thus,not only the distribution regularity of axial contact pressure on roller of limited length,but also the three-dimensional solution of stresses in the contact po- sitions may be obtained.An actual example is presented in the paper.It shows that the practical damaged phenomenon in real roller is in agreement with the result of the analysis

Abstract: An alloy steel pattern recognition expert system,ASPRES,has been established for thepurpose of computer aided optimal design of alloy steel in compositions and process pa-rameters,Pattern recognition techniques are used to abstract inner relationship betweenmechanical properties and process variables.The ASPRES uses 2-dimensional graph asvisual knowledge to represent domain expertise of specific object.Forward and back-ward chaining can be utilized by researcher in predicting sample performances or givinghelpful suggestions about the chemical compositions and process parameters accordingto desired properties.
