Optical constants of Ge nanolayers in oxidation of SiGe alloys determined by ellipsometry

Abstract: We investigate the oxidation behavior of Si 1-xGe x allo ys (x=0. 005,0.02,0.05,0.15 and 0.25). A new ellipsometric method is used for the gene rating and measuring Ge nanostructures in oxidation of SiGe alloys. The fundamental optical constants of Ge nanolayers in the sample were de termined by ellipsometry. The thickness and origin of the Ge bi_nanolayer were f ound. A new peak in photoluminescence PL spectra was discovered, which is relate d to the Ge bi_nano layer (thickness: 0.8\_1.4nm). Some suitable model and calculating formula can be provided with the UHFR method and quantum confinement analysis to interprete th e PL spectrum and the nanostructure mechanism in the oxide.
Self-assembled germanium nano-structures by laser-assisted oxidation

Abstract: The investigation on the oxidation behaviour of Si$_{1-x}$Ge$_{x}$ alloys ($x$=0.05, 0.15, and 0.25) is carried out. It is found for the first time that on the oxide film a germanium nano-cap with a thickness of 1.8--2.8nm and a few Ge nanoparticles with diameters ranging from 5.5 nm to 10 nm are formed by the low-temperature laser-assisted dry oxidation of Si$_{1 - x}$Ge$_{x}$ substrate. A new scanning method on the decline cross-section of the multiple-layer sample is adopted to measure the layer thickness and the composition. Some new peaks in photoluminescence (PL) spectra are discovered, which could be related to the nano-cap and the nano-particles of germanium. A suitable model and several new calculating formulae with the unrestricted Hartree--Fock--Roothaan (UHFR) method and quantum confinement analysis are proposed to interpret the PL spectra and the nano-structure mechanism in the oxide.
Development and transition of spiral wave in the coupled Hindmarsh--Rose neurons in two-dimensional space

Abstract: The dynamics and the transition of spiral waves in the coupled Hindmarsh--Rose (H--R) neurons in two-dimensional space are investigated in the paper. It is found that the spiral wave can be induced and developed in the coupled HR neurons in two-dimensional space, with appropriate initial values and a parameter region given. However, the spiral wave could encounter instability when the intensity of the external current reaches a threshold value of 1.945. The transition of spiral wave is found to be affected by coupling intensity $D$ and bifurcation parameter $r$. The spiral wave becomes sparse as the coupling intensity increases, while the spiral wave is eliminated and the whole neuronal system becomes homogeneous as the bifurcation parameter increases to a certain threshold value. Then the coupling action of the four sub-adjacent neurons, which is described by coupling coefficient $D'$, is also considered, and it is found that the spiral wave begins to breakup due to the introduced coupling action from the sub-adjacent neurons (or sites) and together with the coupling action of the nearest-neighbour neurons, which is described by the coupling intensity D.
Autonomous navigation control for mobile robots based on emotion and environment cognition

Abstract: A new autonomous navigation control system for mobile robots is presented, in which the learning and decision making model based on emotion and cognition is introduced into the control architecture of behavior-based robot system. Dynamic system approach is applied to design the basic behaviors. Continuous environment perceptions are classified into categories by Adaptive Resonance Theory-2 (ART2) networks, which are used as the environmental cognitive states in learning and decision making. Rational behavior-coordination mechanism is developed by the on-line learning of emotion and environmental cognitive. Simulations have demonstrated that the emotion and environmental cognition can obviously improve the efficiency of the learning and decision making process, and enhance the capability of autonomous navigation in behavior-based robot system under unknown environment.
Composite Control Combining Neuro-Fuzzy Inverse Control with PID Control and Its Application in a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor

Abstract: This paper studies the realization of inverse systems and direct inverse control strategies based on the generalized basis function neural fuzzy network (GBFNFN), and presents the composite control strategy combining neuro fuzzy inverse control with PID control. The composite control strategy has been applied to the control of the concentration of a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). Simulation results show that the composite control strategy can overcome the defects of direct inverse control caused by inaccuracy of the identified inverse model, and that the system can have good control performances.
Preparation of TiO2 Nano―particles with Controllable Surface Charges for Electrophoretic Display

Abstract: Preparation of TiO2 nano―particles with controllable surface charges for electrophoretic display was investigated in ethylene tetrachloride, Isopar H and dodecylbenzene, in which TiO2 nano―particles were modified by anionic surfactants, cationic surfactants and polymers, respectively. The research results showed that TiO2 nano―particles modified by cationic surfactants had negative charges in ethylene tetrachloride, while it had positive charges in Isopar H and dodecylbenzene, the nano―particles modified by anionic surfactants had the opposite character. The influence of concentration of charge control agents on TiO2 nano―particles surface charges was discussed, in which TiO2 nano―particles were modified by sodium dodecylbenzenesulphonate, hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide and styrene/divinylbenzene, respectively. It was shown that ξ potential of TiO2 nano―particles had a minimum value near the critical micelle concentrations of the charge control agents, and a regular change with the increasing concentration, while the property of ξ potential was still maintained. So, preparation of controllable surface charges of TiO2 nano―particles can be achieved.v

Abstract: ABSTRACT: Tuina manipulation has long been used in the treatment of lumbar intervertebral disc herniation, although its therapeutic mechanisms remain uncertain. The specific characteristic syndrome of this disease is lumbocrural pain in varying degrees, which is due to mechanical compression, aseptic inflammation, blood circulation disturbance and dystrophy. These factors can act on the involved nerve roots and give rise to nerve conduction disturbance. Since the blood circulation disturbance and nerve roots dystrophy are the most important pathogenic aspects of this disease, the therapeutic effect of Tuina manipulation on lumbar intervertebral disc herniation is related to them directly or indirectly.
A Cross-cultural Communicative Syllabus for Chinese Non-English Majors’ Spoken English Course

Abstract: An intensive summer spoken English training course is offered for freshmen of non-English majors in Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) each summer vacation. This paper aims conducting a new and practical cross-cultural communicative teaching syllabus. At first, a needs analysis is done to determine the objectives of the syllabus. Then the proper type syllabus and teaching contents is chosen according to the results. Tout d’abord, une analyse de besoin est accomplie pour déterminer les objectifs du programme. Puis, la catégorie de programme et le contenu d’enseignement convenables sont choisis selon les résultats.
