An Inventory Model for Ramp-Type Demand with Two-Level Trade Credit Financing Linked to Order Quantity  [PDF]

Abstract: In the traditional economic order quantity (EOQ) model, it is assumed that the demand rate is constant. Thereafter, many researchers developed inventory model with time-varying demand to reflect sales in different phases of product life cycle in the market. However, in practice, especially for fashionable and high-tech product, the demand rate during the growth stages of its life cycle increases significantly with linear or exponential in the growth stage and then gradually stabilizes, and remains near constant in the maturity stage. It can be taken a ramp-type demand rate into account. Furthermore, in today’s supply chain, a supplier usually offers a permissible delay in payment to retailers to encourage them to buy more products, and a retailer in turn provides a downstream trade-credit period to its customers. Therefore, this paper focus on 1) ramp-type demand rate and 2) the upstream and downstream trade credit financing linked to order quantity for retailer is considered. The objective is to find the optimal replenishment cycle and order quantity to keep the total relevant cost per unit time as minimum as possible. The study shows that in each case discussed, the optimal solution not only exists but also is unique. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the proposed model. Finally, some relevant managerial insights based on the results are characterized.

Abstract: Nowadays, the supplier often provides cash discount or permissible delay in payments to its retailers, if the order quantity attains a certain amount. Likewise, the retailer also provides a downstream trade credit period to his customers. In practice, as the supplier provides price discounts for bulk purchases, the retailer may purchase more goods than can be stored in its owned warehouse and store the excess quantities in a rented warehouse. Thus, a two-warehouse inventory model is needed to be considered. Further, the cost is usually affected by the present value of time and products deteriorate as time increases. Therefore, this paper develops a supplier-retailer-customer chain inventory model in which 1) two-level trade credit linked to order quantity is considered; 2) storage capacity is limited; 3) the effect of inflation and time value of money by a discounted cash-flow analysis is taken into account. The demand rate is linearly increasing with time and the deterioration rate is constant. Based on the viewpoint of cost minimization, the objective is to find the optimal replenishment cycle and order quantity to keep the present value of the total relevant cost per unit time as minimum as possible. The research shows that in each case discussed, the optimal solution for each case exists uniquely. Finally, numerical examples are provided for illustration and some managerial insights based on the numerical results are also presented.

Abstract: Five derivatives of 2-imino-3-(4-arylthiazol-2-yl)-thiazolidin-4-ones and a series of their 5-arylidene derivatives have been synthesized and tested for antifungal activity against seven agricultural fungi. 2-Imino-3-(2,4-dichloro-5-fluorophenylthiazol-2-yl)-4-thiazolidi-none and 2-imino-3-(2,4-dichlorophenylthiazol-2-yl)-4-thiazolidione, both of them new compounds, exhibited higher fungicidal effects than the other compounds prepared.

Abstract: Cerium-doped TiO2/Ti photoelectrodes were prepared by anodization. The photoelectrodes were characterized by SEM, XRD, XRF, XPS and UV/VIS/NIR, and their photoelectrocatalytic performance under visible light irradiation was also investigated. Taking degradation efficiency of rhodamine B as indication, the preparing conditions of Cerium-doped TiO2/Ti photoelectrodes were optimized. The optimal parameters are voltage of 160V, current density of 100mA/c 2 and Ce(NO3)3 concentration of 960 mg/L.

Abstract: Root lesion nematode, one of the three most devastated plant parasitic nematodes, is widespread in the world. They can invade various food and cash crops, and cause great agriculture loss. Recognition and identification of root lesion nematode are important joint of nematode management, as well as the mechanism research of plant anti-nematode, which is of great benefit to breed resistance varieties. In this review, the recent advances in nematode identification and research of plant anti-nematode are presented, and the importance of non-inaccuracy identification of nematode was emphasized. The mechanism of resistance to root lesion nematode was also discussed.

Abstract: An innovative photoelectrode, B2O3.TiO2/Ti electrode, was prepared by galvanostaticanodisation. The morphology and crystalline texture of the B2O3.TiO2 film on electrode were examined by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray diffraction respectively. The examination results indicated that the anatase was the dominant component. The kinetics of photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) degradation of humic acid(HA) was investigated; the results demonstrated that effects from strongness to weakness on the photoelectrocatalytic degraded rate of humic acid: power of UV-lamp, area of TiO2 film, bias, original concentration of humic acid solution. The optimum conditions were power of UV-lamp 125 W, area of TiO2 film 42.0 cm2, bias 1.4 V, original concentration of humic acid solution 5 mg/L in this PEC reaction system.

Influence of basic fibroblast growth factor on the expression of human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) in epidermal cells

Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of human telomerase reverse transcriptase(hTERT) in epidermal cells and the influence on basic fibroblasts growth factor(bFGF).Methods The precursor epithelial stem cells(ESCs) were derived by in vitro bFGF-induced dedifferentiation of human keratinocytes(HEK) cells.The phenotypic changes of derived ESCs were detected by immunocytochemical staining,and the hTERT expression was detected by flow cytometry,immunofluorescence staining and TRAP-silver staining.HEK without bFGF treatment were used as control,and ESCs simultaneously isolated from human epidermis were used as positive control.Results Immunohistochemical staining revealed that the expression of β1-integrin,CK19 and CK14 in derived ESCs was significantly up-regulated,while the CK10 expression was significantly down-regulated.Flow cytometry revealed that the percentage of hTERT+ cell subsets in experimental group(derived ESCs),control group and positive control group was 98.41%,0.77% and 99.76%,respectively.TRAP-silver staining analysis indicated that the telomerase activity was significantly up-regulated in experimental group compared with that in control group,while there was no significantly difference between experimental group and positive control group.Furthermore,immunofluorescence assay revealed that there was difference in subcellular localization of hTERT between experimental group(derived ESCs) and positive control group(ESCs).Conclusion Basic fibroblast growth factor may induce epidermal cells to dedifferentiate and regain the phenotype of ESCs,which leads to the changes in hTERT expression and activity,and induces its subcellular shift of the locus.
Microwave absorption properties of MWCNT-SiC composites synthesized via a low temperature induced reaction

Abstract: The composites containing SiC and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized via the reaction of Si powders and MWCNTs induced by that of Na and sulfur. The MWCNT-SiC composites prepared at 600 °C exhibit excellent microwave absorbing properties, which reach a minimum reflection loss of -38.7 dB at a frequency around 12.9 GHz. The absorbing properties are bound up with the high yield of porous SiC spheres comprised of nanocrystals. The porous structure, high density of stacking faults in SiC crystallites, interfaces between MWCNTs and SiC spheres, grain boundaries between SiC nanocrystals, as well as the interfacial polarizations aroused therefrom, are responsible for the excellent microwave absorbing properties.
Selected Neurophysiological, Psychological, and Behavioral Influences on Subjective Sleep Quality in Nurses: A Structure Equation Model

Abstract: Few studies have examined relationships among neurophysiological, psychological, and behavioral factors with regard to their effects on sleep quality. We used a structure equation model to investigate behavioral and psychological factors that influence neurophysiological regulation of sleep in shift workers. Using a cross-sectional study design, we tested the model with a sample of 338 female nurses working rotating shifts at an urban regional hospital. The Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) and short-form Menstrual Distress Questionnaire (MDQ) were used to measure neurophysiological factors involved in morningness-eveningness and menstrual distress. The Sleep Hygiene Awareness and Practice Scale (SHAPS) and Profile of Mood States Short Form (POMS-SF) were completed to measure behavioral factors of sleep hygiene practices and psychological factors of mood states. In addition, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) measured participant's self-reported sleep quality. The results revealed that sleep hygiene practices and mood states mediated the effects of morningness-eveningness and menstrual distress on sleep quality. Our findings provide support for developing interventions to enhance sleep hygiene and maintain positive mood states to reduce the influence of neurophysiological factors on sleep quality among shift workers.
