Alkaline leaching of metal melting industry wastes dseparation of zinc and lead in the leach solution

Abstract: In this work, a thorough examinations on the extractability of zinc and lead present in the steelmaking dusts using alkaline leaching process and the effectiveness of the zinc and lead separation in the resultant leaching solutions using sulfide precipitation method were made. It was found that only about 53% of zinc and over 70% of the lead could be leached out of the dusts, while the other 47% of zinc and 306 of lead were left in the leaching residues. The zinc and lead in the resultant leaching solution can be effectively and selectively separated. When the weight ratio of sodium sulfide (M. W. = 222-240) to Pb was kept at 1.8, the lead in the solution could be precipitated out quantitatively while all the zinc was remained in the solution. The zinc left in the solution can be further recovered by the addition of extra sodium sulfide with a weight ratio of sodium sulfide to the zinc over 2.6. The resultant filtrate can be recycled to the leaching of dust in the next leaching process.
Automatic Construction Method for Domain Concepts Based on Wikipedia Semantic Knowledge Base  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper proposes a method to construct conceptual semantic knowledge base of software engineering domain based on Wikipedia. First, it takes the concept of SWEBOK V3 as the standard to extract the interpretation of the concept from the Wikipedia, and extracts the keywords as the concept of semantic; Second, through the conceptual semantic knowledge base, it is formed by the relationship between the hierarchical relationship concept and the other text interpretation concept in the Wikipedia. Finally, the semantic similarity between concepts is calculated by the random walk algorithm for the construction of the conceptual semantic knowledge base. The semantic similarity of knowledge base constructed by this method can reach more than 84%, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified.
A joint model for nonparametric functional mapping of longitudinal trajectory and time-to-event

Abstract: We present a joint statistical model for functional mapping of dynamic traits in which the event times and longitudinal traits are taken to depend on a common set of genetic mechanisms. By fitting the Legendre polynomial of orthogonal properties for the time-dependent mean vector, our model does not rely on any curve, which is different from earlier parametric models of functional mapping. This newly developed nonparametric model is demonstrated and validated by an example for a forest tree in which stemwood growth and the time to first flower are jointly modelled.Our model allows for the detection of specific QTL that govern both longitudinal traits and developmental processes through either pleiotropic effects or close linkage, or both. This model will have great implications for integrating longitudinal and event data to gain better insights into comprehensive biology and biomedicine.Although there has been a upsurge of interest in jointly modelling longitudinal and event data during the last decade [1-9], no statistical models have been developed to characterize the shared genetic basis for these two types of traits. In biomedicine, the identification of specific genetic variants responsible for an HIV patient's time-dependent CD4 count and for the time to onset of AIDS symptoms can help to design individualized drugs to control this patient's progression to AIDS. Similarly, in studies of prostate cancer, a shared genetic basis between prostate specific antigen, repeatedly measured for patients following treatment for prostate cancer, and the time to disease recurrence can be used to make optimal treatment schedules for patients. The Effect of Word Meaning Deriving Strategy Instruction: The Case of EFL Students in Taiwan

Abstract: This study intends to find out the effect of teaching word meaning deriving strategies to EFL Students in Taiwan. The subjects were one class of the first year students attending a junior college in Taiwan. They were given a pre-test, which contained a passage, 10 vocabulary test items and 10 strategy questions. The researchers then began a two-month experiment. During the experimental period, the researcher, who was the instructor of the subjects, taught word meaning deriving strategies to students. The post-test, which was exactly the same as the pre-test, was given at the end of the experimental period. The results show significant differences of students' correct guessing rates and the strategy choice between the pre-test and the post-test. This suggests that it is worthwhile teaching EFL students word meaning deriving strategies.
Effects of Tangxinping Capsule on angiotensin Ⅱ and its type 1 receptor and myocardial ultrastructure in diabetic rats

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the protective effects of Tangxinping Capsule, a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine, on diabetic cardiomyopathy in rats.Methods: The model of diabetes mellitus was induced by streptozotocin (STZ) injection in rats. And the rats with diabetes mellitus were randomly divided into untreated group, metformin group, captopril group, and low-, medium- and high-dose Tangxinping group; the other ten normal rats were used as normal controls. After eight-week treatment, all rats were sacrificed to detect angiotensin Ⅱ (Ang Ⅱ) protein content and angiotensin Ⅱ type 1 receptor (AT1R) mRNA expression in myocardial tissues by radioimmunoassay and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) respectively. The ultrastructural change in myocardial tissues was detected by transmission electron microscopy.Results: The results of radioimmunoassay and RT-PCR showed that the content of Ang Ⅱ protein and the expression of AT1R mRNA in myocardial tissue of the untreated group was significantly increased and more than those in normal control (P<0.05, P<0.01). Only the content of Ang Ⅱ and expression of AT1R mRNA in high-dose Tangxinping group and captopril group were significantly lower than those in the untreated group (P<0.05, P<0.01). The transmission electron microscopy showed that volume of mitochondrion in myocardial tissue in the untreated group was bigger than that in normal control group. Also the volume of mitochondrion was improved in 5 treated groups, but had no significant difference when compared with the untreated group.Conclusion: Tangxinping may adjust the disorder of renin-angiotensin system to protect myocardial tissue in rats with cardiomyopathy due to diabetes.
A Bibliometric Analysis on the Literature of Information Organization in Taiwan

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to explore the characteristics of the literature on information organization in Taiwan. A total of 610 articles from 1882 to 2008 and 113 theses and dissertations from 1971 to 2008 were identified and analyzed. The growth of literature, research subjects, author productivity, the distribution of journals and organizations are addressed. The results of this study reveal that the journal articles in Taiwan had been up-growing except after 2003, but the theses and dissertations had been growing stably. The major research subject of journal articles is classification theory and descriptive cataloging, but the theses and dissertations are knowledge organization. The zone analysis from Bradford’s law is not applicable to journal productivity. Productivity is mainly focused on single author and toward coauthor. The Journal of Educational Media and Library Sciences is the major journal that publishes information organization articles. The National Taiwan University is the most productive schools of theses and dissertations, but various schools have their characteristics of research subjects. [Article content in Chinese]
Instabilities at planetary gap edges in 3D self-gravitating disks

Abstract: Numerical simulations are presented to study the stability of gaps opened by giant planets in 3D self-gravitating disks. In weakly self-gravitating disks, a few vortices develop at the gap edge and merge on orbital time-scales. The result is one large but weak vortex with Rossby number -0.01. In moderately self-gravitating disks, more vortices develop and their merging is resisted on dynamical time-scales. Self-gravity can sustain multi-vortex configurations, with Rossby number -0.2 to -0.1, over a time-scale of order 100 orbits. Self-gravity also enhances the vortex vertical density stratification, even in disks with initial Toomre parameter of order 10. However, vortex formation is suppressed in strongly self-gravitating disks and replaced by a global spiral instability associated with the gap edge which develops during gap formation.

Abstract: Whitman influenced greatly on modern Arabic poetry in general and its prose poetry in particular through Gibran Khalil Gibran, the most famous and important Arabic immigrant poet that had ever lived in America for a long time. We can find in Gibran and Whitman’s works that they shared strong similarity in their poetics and thoughts. Gibran’s prose poetry, first of all, is of the same origin as Whitman’s in his creative language. Both of them are adept at creating original images by ingenious combination of words. In the second place, just like Whitman’s poetry, Gibran’s works possess an awfully aesthetic sense of music. Like Whitman, Gibran uses graceful rhythm to manifest musical aesthetic feeling in his production. In the third place, both of Whitman and Gibran are good at using colors. Some of their poems are almost a collection of colors. Gibran and Whitman also express some similar thoughts in their works. Both of them did not advocate the tradition so much Gibran is as sharp as Whitman in his rebellious spirit. Also, it is very explicit that both of Whitman and Gibran are mystic. We’ll focus our discussion on their characteristics of pantheism and natural occultism. Large non-Gaussianity generated at the end of Extended D-term Hybrid Inflation

Abstract: In this paper, we show that if we extend D-term hybrid inflation by adding a light scalar field which couples to a waterfall field, large non-Gaussianity can be generated at the end of inflation. Contribution of cosmic strings generated after D-term inflation to the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) angular power spectrum can be as low as 10% and this also evade the spectral index problem.
Triple Unification of Inflation, Dark matter and Dark energy in Chaotic Braneworld Inflation

Abstract: In this paper, we show that in the framework of chaotic braneworld inflation, after preheating, the remaining oscillating inflaton field can play the role of dark matter with the observed level. Augmented by a non-zero effective cosmological constant $\Lambda_4$ on the brane, triple unification of inflation, dark matter and dark energy by a single field is realized. Our model perhaps is the simplest one in the market of theories to achieve triple unification.
