Analysis of Reflection Properties of High Power Microwave Propagation in Mixture-Atmosphere  [PDF]

Abstract: A simple theoretical modeling is made to describe the reflection features of the high power microwave (HPM) in the mixture-atmosphere. The time-space dependent mixture-atmosphere is generated by ionization of the neutral molecules in atmosphere. Reflection will occur when HPM propagates in such mixture-atmosphere. The reflection characteristic of the HPM propagation in the mixture-atmosphere is investigated by FDTD numerical experiments in inhomogeneous medium, the influence on the reflection for different HPM parameters is concluded. An additional stability conditions for the FDTD difference scheme of the HPM mixture-atmosphere propagation model are presented.

Abstract: The finite difference time domain (FDTD) computational zone was truncated by an artificial boundary, of which the geometric shape was conformal with the boundary of an arbitrary shaped scatterer. The external conformal mesh was generated by the Thompson transformation.On the truncating boundary, the time domain measured equations of invariance (MEI) were applied as a local absorbing boundary condition. So the FDTD computational domain was compressed remarkably. The numerical experiment proved that the requirement of computer storage is reduced while the numerical accuracy is not decreased.
Mechanical and Fracture Behaviors of Elastomer-Rich Thermoplastic Polyolefin/ Nanocomposites

Abstract: Elastomer-rich thermoplastic polyolefin (ETPO) resin containing 70?wt% maleated styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene (SEBS-g-MA) and 30?wt% polypropylene and its nanocomposites filled with 1–5?wt% SiC nanoparticles ( ) were fabricated using extrusion and injection molding techniques. The mechanical and thermal behaviors of ETPO and its nanocomposites were investigated. Tensile measurements showed that the additions lead to reductions in both tensile stiffness and strength of ETPO. However, Izod impact and EWF measurements indicated that the impact strength and fracture toughness of ETPO improve substantially with increasing content. This demonstrated that SiC nanoparticles toughen the ETPO blend effectively. Furthermore, additions were found to improve the thermal resistance of ETPO blend considerably. 1. Introduction Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) blends consisting of polypropylene (PP) and elastomer components find extensive industrial applications in the automotive and construction sectors because of their low cost, low density, good weather resistance, and recycling characteristics. They can be easily processed like thermoplastics but maintain the resilience and elasticity behaviors of elastomers. The elastomers commonly used to toughen PP including styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene (SEBS), ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR), ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM), and polyethylene octane elastomer (POE). Due to the addition of elastomer, the stiffness and mechanical strength of TPO are lower than those of pure PP. Therefore, conventional microfillers such as talc and short glass fibers have been used to restore the mechanical strength of TPO blends. However, the incorporation of large concentration of microfillers (ca 20–30?wt%) generally leads to poor processability of TPO-based composites [1]. In the past decade, nanomaterials with high mechanical strength and stiffness are used as nanofillers to enhance the mechanical strength of polymers. In the case of TPO blends, nanoclay [2–7] and nanosilica particles [8, 9] of low loading levels have been incorporated into TPO blends to form ternary PP/elastomer/filler nanocomposites. TPO-clay nanocomposites have found applications as materials for the “step-assist’’ of automobiles. The fracture toughness is a property which describes the ability of a material containing a crack to resist fracture. It is one of material properties commonly used for engineering design purposes. Abstract: A semi-analytical model for the propagation of the repetition frequency high power microwave (HPM) pulses is established. The effects of different parameters of the repetition frequency HPM pulses on air breakdown are analyzed. A critical repetition frequency for the HPM pulse is presented under which the electron density does not exceed that of the air breakdown when the individual pulse arrives. The prediction for the critical repetition frequency and the threshold of the air breakdown due to the repetition frequency HPM pulses is demonstrated with several numerical simulations.
A Position-Based Connectionless Routing Algorithm for MANET and WiMAX under High Mobility and Various Node Densities

Abstract: Many routing algorithms were proposed for mobile ad hoc network (MANET). They can be classified into two categories: connection-oriented and connectionless. Their performance is usually limited under high mobility or various node densities. A connectionless algorithm even encounter a local maximum problem (also called void problem) under low node density. The problem causes a data packet cannot be transmitted to the destination Mobile Node (MN). Therefore, an improved OHLAR (one-hop location-aided routing) algorithm is proposed in this research. It is designed for the hybrid environment consisting of MANET and WiMAX networks. WiMAX network is used to overcome the broadcast storm of location interchange among MNs under high mobility or high node density. It can also resolve the local maximum problem under small or low node density. Simulation results show that the improved OHLAR can keep high delivery ratio, low end-to-end delay and low control overhead compared to the basic OHLAR and other routing algorithms, including AODV, LAR and CAM.

Abstract: For the important issues of security service of rail vehicles, the online quantitative security assessment method of the service status of rail vehicles and the key equipments is urgently needed, so the method based on safety region was proposed in the paper. At first, the formal description and definition of the safety region were given for railway engineering practice. And for the research objects which their models were known, the safety region estimation method of system stability analysis based on Lyapunov exponent was proposed; and for the research objects which their models were unknown, the data-driven safety region estimation method was presented. The safety region boundary equations of different objects can be obtained by these two different approaches. At last, by real-time analysis of the location relationship and generalized distance between the equipment service status point and safety region boundary, the online safety assessment model of key equipments can be established. This method can provide a theoretical basis for online safety evaluation of trains operation; furthermore, it can provide support for real-time monitoring, early warning and systematic maintenance of rail vehicles based on the idea of active security.a

In this paper, the author reported the effect of maifanite on the learning and memory of rats suffering Cd poisoning by step-down and step-through test, analyzed the content of MDA, MT, SOD, and GSH-Px in the hippocampus of rats respectively, and assayed the content of Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn, Se, and Cd in the hippocampus of rats. In the step-down test, it is found that maifanite can reduce the number of electric shock, prolong step-down latency, and cut down error times when rats are exposed to Cd 24 h. In the step-through test, maifanite can obviously prolong the latency of entering the dark cabin of rats suffering Cd poisoning. The exogenous Cd can lead to the decrease of SOD and GSH-Px activity and the increase of MDA and MT content. The alternation of maifanite and Cd by the gavage can significantly increase the SOD and GSH-Px activity as well as MT content, while lessening the MDA content. The accumulation of exogenous Cd in hippocampus causes the increase of Zn, Fe, Mn, and Cd content, and the decrease of Cu and Se content. The intake of maifanite can regulate the imbalance of metals content and make its content near to the of level control group. The research shows that maifanite can improve the ability of learning and memory of rats suffering Cd poisoning, increase MT formation and lower hyperoxidative damage. Maifanite has the function of balancing the content of trace elements in rats suffering Cd poisoning, and meanwhile can alleviate the toxicity of Cd effectively.

Abstract: A significant development in the theory of countercurrent extraction will be presented in this article. New expressions of the term in countercurrent extraction process analysis, “Adjacent Stage Impurity Ratio” (ASIR), are deduced. Furthermore, based on the term together with mass balance and extraction equilibrium, the conditions where a given countercurrent extraction separation operation can have minimum amounts of both extracting solvent and scrubbing agent solution can be estimated, and the equations of the two minimum amounts can be deduced. It was found that the equations for a two-component separation using a single aqueous or organic feed are exactly the same as they appeared in the theory initially established in 1970s. Unlike its earlier version, the present derivation does not involve feed-stage-composition hypothesis, and also has the advantage of dealing with a double-feed system where both aqueous and organic feeds are simultaneously employed whereas the earlier theory can only analyze a separation using a single aqueous or organic feed.
