Hyperfine structure of singly ionized lanthanum and praseodymium

Abstract: Hyperfine structure spectra of singly ionized lanthanum and praseodymium have been measured by collinear fast-ion-beam laser spectroscopy. All the spectral lines were resolved and the magnetic dipole and electric quadruple coupling constants of the metastable levels and excited levels were determined. Our results are in agreement with the published data within the experimental uncertainty. For praseodymium ions, the accuracy of the magnetic dipole coupling constants are improved by one order of magnitude compared with other published data, and the electric quadruple coupling constants are reported for the first time.
A clinical trial of combined use of rosiglitazone and 5-aminosalicylate for ulcerative colitis

Abstract: AIM: To investigate the therapeutic effects of the combined use of rosiglitazone and aminosalicylate on mild or moderately active ulcerative colitis (UC).METHODS: According to the national guideline for diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in China, patients with mild or moderately active UC in our hospital were selected from July to November, 2004. Patients with infectious colitis, amoebiasis, or cardiac, renal or hepatic failure and those who had received corticosteroid or immunosuppressant treatment within the last month were excluded. Following a quasi-randomization principle, patients were allocated alternatively into the treatment group (TG) with rosiglitazone 4 mg/d plus 5-ASA 2 g/d daily or the control group (CG) with 5-ASA 2 g/d alone, respectively, for 4 wk. Clinical changes were evaluated by Mayo scoring system and histological changes by Truelove-Richards’ grading system at initial and final point of treatment.RESULTS: Forty-two patients completed the trial, 21 each in TG and CG. The Mayo scores in TG at initial and final points were 5.87 (range: 4.29-7.43) and 1.86 (range: 1.03-2.69) and those in CG were 6.05 (range: 4.97-7.13) and 2.57 (range: 1.92-3.22) respectively. The decrements of Mayo scores were 4.01 in TG and 3.48 in CG, with a remission rate of 71.4% in TG and 57.1% in CG, respectively. Along with the improvement of disease activity index (DAI), the histological grade improvement was more significant in TG than in CG (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Combined treatment with rosiglitazone and 5-ASA achieved better therapeutic effect than 5-ASA alone without any side effects. Rosiglitazone can alleviate colonic inflammation which hopefully becomes a novel agent for UC treatment.

Abstract: A previously healthy 19 year-old college student presented with abrupt onset of nausea, vomiting, dizziness and vertigo, and progressively worsened with hoarseness, and swallowing disturbance, imbalance, numbness of right face and left-side limbs and trunk. The diagnosis of Wallenberg syndrome was established by clinical manifestations and medullary hemorrhage by combination use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with computed tomography (CT). Supportive treatment was given to the patient and there was considerable improvement in his neurologic status after 40 days treatment.

Abstract: Recent advances in neuroimaging contribute a lot to the accurate diagnosis and evaluation of cerebrovascular diseases. To explore the relationship among blood perfusion, metabolism and brain structure integrity, 6 Chinese transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients with middle cerebral artery (MCA) stenosis were examined by xenon-enhanced computed tomography (Xe-CT), magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to compare cerebral blood flow (CBF) values, (choline + creatine)/ N-acetyl aspartate [(Cho + Cr)/NAA] values and fractional anisotropy (FA) values in the MCA territory. Our results showed that CBF values significantly decreased in the ipsilateral basal ganglion regions in all 5 cases with unilateral MCA stenosis, with a corresponding decrease of FA values in the same region. In conclusion, decreased blood perfusion may indicate nerve fibre damage in the dominating regions of stenosed arteries.
Preparation of Cluster States of Atomic Qubits in Cavity QED

Abstract: We propose an optical scheme to generate cluster states of atomic qubits, with each trapped in separate optical cavity, via atom-cavity-laser interaction. The quantum information of each qubit is encoded on the degenerate ground states of the atom, hence the entanglement between them is relatively stable against spontaneous emission. A single-photon source and two classical fields are employed in the present scheme. By controlling the sequence and time of atom-cavity-laser interaction, we show that the atomic cluster states can be produced deterministically
Forecasting and evaluating water quality of Changjiang River based on composite least square SVM with intelligent genetic algorithms

Abstract: Forecasting and evaluation water quality is a complicated problem due to its nonlinearity and uncertainty. Least square support vector machine(LSSVM) has been successfully employed to solve regression and time series problem. This paper proposed a novel IGALSSVM model.The model based on a new genetic algorithm, intelligent genetic algorithm to optimize the parameters of LSSVM. In addition, applied the model to classify and forecast water quality of Changjiang River. Experimental results show that IGALSSVM model performs better than neural networks ,implying that IGALSSVM is very practical.

Abstract: This paper proposed a new fuzzy function to improve on standard FSVM, also proposed a novel AGAIFSVM model.The model based on adaptive genetic algorithm to optimize the parameters of FSVM. In addition, applied the model to forecast coal and gas outburst. Experimental results show that AGAIFSVM model performs better than BP neural networks,standard SVM and fuzzy clustering method, implying that AGAIFSVM is very practical.
Wigner Function Formalism for Zero Magnetic Field Spin Dependent Resonant Tunneling Structures

Abstract: We develop a Wigner function representation of the quantum transport theory of the conduction band electrons in Rashba effect resonant tunneling structures with a phonon bath. In narrow band gap heterostructures, spin splitting occurs mainly as a result of inversion asymmetry in the spatial dependence of the potential or as a result of external electric field. This "zero magnetic field spin splitting" is due to the Rashba term in the effective mass Hamiltonian. The quantum transport equations are derived using multi-band non-equilibrium Green's function formulation in generalized Kadanoff-Baym ansatz.
Access Control Framework for Mobile Terminal Systems

Abstract: With popularity of mobile computing,security issues of mobile terminals recently became a hot research area. Traditional access control technologies can effectively resolve confidentiality and integrity problems of information,but do not pay enough consideration to availability. Compared with personal computers,mobile terminals are easier under Denial of Service attacks by exhausting system resource. In this article,we provided an access control framework for mobile terminals. Extending DTE mechanism to guarantee confidentiality and integrity of information,the framework allows key applications to reserve dynamic resource(such as CPU time and physical memory pages). Managed and scheduled by mobile terminals,reserved resource can be used to avoid resource conflict between key applications and others,which improve response and availability of mobile terminals.

Abstract: Apolipoprotein E (apoE) is a 34.2 kDa glycoprotein characterized by its wide tissue distribution and multiple functions. The nonlipid-related properties of apoE include modulating inflammation and oxidation, suppressing T cell proliferation, regulating macrophage functions, and facilitating lipid antigen presentation by CD1 molecules to natural killer T (NKT) cells, and so forth. Increasing studies have revealed that APOE allele might be associated with multiple sclerosis (MS), although evidence is still not sufficient enough. In this review, we summarized the current progress of the immunomodulatory functions of apoE, with special focus on the association of APOE allele with the clinical features of MS and of its animal model experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).
