A New Parameter-Extraction Method for DGS and its Application to the Low-Pass Filter

Abstract: A new and simple parameter-extraction method for the equivalent circuit of defected ground structure (DGS) is presented. Using this method, circuit simulation, based on the DGS equivalent-circuit model, show excellent agreements with the electromagnetic (EM) simulation. Further, our method is applied effectively to design a low-pass filter (LPF) with DGS. Comparison between simulation and measurement confirm the validity of the LPF configuration and design procedure. Simple structure and high power handling capability are obtained from the proposed LPF.
Novel Two-Dimensional (2-D) Defected Ground Array for Planar Circuits

Abstract: This paper presents a novel two-dimensional (2-D) defected ground array (DGA) for planar circuits, which has horizontal and vertical periodicities of defect structure. The defected unit cell of DGA is composed of a Sierpinski carpet structure to improve the effective inductance. Measurements show that the proposed DGA provides steeper cutoff characteristics, lower cutoff frequency, and higher slow-wave factors than the conventional periodic defected ground structure in the same occupied surface.
A VCO with Harmonic Suppressed and Output Power Improved Using Defected Ground Structure

Abstract: In this paper, a novel defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed for suppressing harmonic and increasing the output power of a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) in microwave circuits. The DGS is formed with connecting in parallel two periodic structures which have different center frequencies (in a ratio of 2:3) of the stopband and provides the bandgap characteristic in certain frequency bands. Simulated and experimental results show that the microstrip line with DGS has a wide low-pass band for the fundamental frequency and a stopband for the second harmonic with good performance. To evaluate the effects of DGS on microwave VCOs, two GaAs field-effect transistor (FET) VCOs have been designed and fabricated. One of them has a 50Ω microstrip line with DGS at the output section, while the other has only a 50Ω straight line. Measured results show that DGS suppresses the second harmonic more than −20 dBm at the output and yields improved output power by 3−5%.

Abstract: The characteristics method is introduced to analyze the transient sensitivity of transmission lines in high-speed VLSI circuits with respect to the transmission line parameters or terminal parameters, supplying a useful tool for the optimization design of interconnects in VLSI circuits. The characteristics method differs from the existing sensitivity analysis method based on the Numerical Inverse Laplace Transform(NILT) technique mainly in that the characteristics method can deal with nonlinear terminals and arbitrary transmitted signals.

Abstract: 采用部分元等效电路方法,结合近似的三维闭式格林函数,在10GHz以下的频率范围提出了一种针对有耗硅衬底上螺旋电感的准静态建模新方法.该方法充分考虑了有耗的硅衬底、趋肤效应、接近效应等因素对螺旋电感电特性的影响,通过与全波分析方法对比,证明在相当宽的频率范围该方法是有效、可行的,可广泛应用于微波和射频硅集成电路的优化设计和仿真.

Abstract: High speed Multi-Chip Module (MCM) has been widely adopted in the complex system, where simultaneous switching noise is one of the key factors affecting the system function. In this paper, two dimensional electromagnetic model is used to simulate power/ground plane simultaneous switching noise in MCM. A novel numerical method for the time-domain electromagnetic problems, named method of characteristics, is presented and used to solve the above problem. The results obtained are in accordance with that by the method of FD-TD and that reported by literature.

Abstract: An efficient time signals prediction method combined with two-dimensional finite difference time domain (2D-FDTD) method has been proposed for the performance parameters computation of uniform microwave transmission lines. This hybrid method is especially suitable for the micron structures, and can account for the conductor loss efficiently. So it leads to a significant reduction in CPU time as compared with the conventional three-dimensional FDTD, which improves the efficiency. The simulation results are in good agreement with the results obtained by measurements.

Abstract: The characteristic of coplanar stripline in deep-submicron CMOS integrated circ uits is studied based on theoretictal analysis and measured results.Distributed parameter extraction methods for transmission lines on silicon substrate are pro posed and design guidelines to minimize the loss of coplanar striplines are also given.Finally,the coplanar stripline on-chip is successfully used in the desig n of the high-speed IC's,and some measured results are also given.The measured results indicate that inductance can be implemented using coplanar striplines in deep-submicron CMOS high-speed IC's.

Abstract: A stable recursive algorithm is presented for the transient simulation of interconnect systems in the high-speed VLSI and multichip modules (MCMs). The Taylor approximation is employed in the frequency domain, then a set of recursive formulas is derived by the inverse Laplace transform. The recursive convolution includes no unknowns, it is only related with the computed quantities. The algorithm concerns only the quantities at two ends of the lines, so it consumes less computer time and less memory in comparison with other methods. The algorithm is useful for both delay and crosstalk estimation and can be used to evaluate transient responses of high-speed interconnect circuits. Applications show that the method gives high accuracy.

Abstract: A novel VLD double RESURF structure with n bury layer is proposed in order to realize 1200V LDMOS on thin epitaxial layer.Compared with conventional double RESURF LDMOS,process compatibility of the devices with standard CMOS process is improved,because of using a thin epitaxial layer.The relationships between breakdown voltage and length and concentration of n bury layer,and concentration profile of p layer also are analyzed by using 2D devices simulator MEDICI.Hence,optimization designs for devices structure and its process are achieved.Finally,1200V VLD double RESURF LDMOS with n bury layer is realized and it is applied in 1200V power integrated circuits.
