Elevated serum levels of human relaxin-2 in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract: AIM: To assess the prognostic value of serum human relaxin 2 (H2 RLN) level in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). METHODS: From October 1998 to September 2009, 146 patients with histopathologically confirmed ESCC were enrolled in this study. One hundred patients underwent en bloc esophagectomy, and 46 patients with unresectable tumors underwent palliative surgery. Five of the 146 patients died of surgical complications. Serum levels of H2 RLN were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. The relationship between serum H2 RLN level and each of the clinicopathological parameters was analyzed using the χ2 test. Patients were classified into two groups according to their H2 RLN level (< 0.462 ng/mL vs ≥ 0.462 ng/mL). When any analysis cell had fewer than five cases, the Fisher’s exact test was used. The statistical difference between groups A and B in each clinicopathological category was determined by the Student’s t test (two-tailed) or analysis of variance. Survival curves were plotted using the Kaplan-Meier method. The statistical difference in survival between the different groups was compared using the log-rank test. Survival correlation with the prognostic factors was further investigated by multivariate analysis using the Cox proportional hazards model with backward stepwise likelihood ratio. RESULTS: ESCC patients tended to have significantly higher serum H2 RLN concentrations (0.48 ± 0.17 ng/mL, n = 141) compared with the healthy control group (0.342 ± 0.12 ng/mL, n = 112). There was a significant difference between patients with lymph node involvement (0.74 ± 0.15 ng/mL, n = 90), distant metastasis (0.90 ± 0.19 ng/mL, n = 32) and those without lymph node involvement (0.45 ± 0.12 ng/mL, n = 51), and distant metastasis (0.43 ± 0.14 ng/mL, n = 109), respectively (P < 0.01). Patients with high H2 RLN levels (≥ 0.462 ng/mL) had a poorer prognosis than patients with low serum H2 RLN levels (< 0.462 ng/mL; P = 0.0056). The H2 RLN level was also correlated with survival and tumor-node-metastasis staging, but not with age, tumor size, gender, lymphovascular invasion or the histological grade of tumors. Cox regression analysis showed that H2 RLN was an independent variable. CONCLUSION: Serum concentrations of H2 RLN are frequently elevated in ESCC patients and are correlated with disease metastasis and survival. Serum concentrations of H2 RLN may be an important prognostic marker in ESCC patients.
An evolutionary model of urban bus transport network based on B-space

Abstract: In this paper, an evolutionary model of bus transport network in B-space is developed. It includes the effect of the overlapping ratio of new route on network performance and overcomes the disadvantage, i.e. lack of economic consideration, in the evolutionary bus transport network model in P-space proposed by Chen {\it et al} (2007). The degree distribution functions are derived by using the mean-field method and the master equation method, separately. The relationship between the new stop ratio of a route, $\lambda $, and the error in exponential of degree distribution function from the mean-field method is developed as ${\Delta}$Slope$=\lambda/(1 - \lambda ) + \ln (1 - \lambda)$. Finally, the bus transport networks of Hangzhou and Nanjing are simulated by using this model, and the results show that some characteristic index values of the simulated networks are closer to the empirical data than those from Chen's model.

Abstract: A conventional Neural Network often optimizes the weights through invariable network structure, which has limited the extensive use of the Neural Network. The crossover operator based on direction and Tabu search mutation operator was introduced. This paper put forward Genetic and Tabu search algorithm to train the neural networks, combining the merits of genetic algorithm and that of Tabu search algorithm, which makes weights and structure of artificial neural networks be optimized together. The result shows that the neural network optimized by using the presented algorithm has the advantages of quicker convergence rate and higher precision, compared with genetic algorithm and Tabu search algorithm, and that the processing ability of networks is also raised.

Abstract: Magnetoelectric nano-composites xCoAl0.2Fe1.8O4+(1-x)BaTiO3 were prepared by Sol-Gel method. The presence of perovskite BaTiO3 and spinel CoAl0.2Fe1.8O4 in the sintered composites was proved by XRD patterns. SEM images showed that particle size of composite was uniform. The magnetic property of composites was tested by magnetic hysteresis loops and dispersion of dielectric constant was explained with Koops two layer inhomogeneous dielectric structure model. The maximum value of magnetoelectric voltage coefficient viz. 1.075×10-2V/A was obtained for 0.20CoAl0.2Fe1.8O4+0.80BaTiO3 composite at the DC magnetic bias field of 1.35×105A/m.

Abstract: 前导1预测(Leading One Prediction,LOP)算法常被用在浮点数的加减运算中,它能与尾数加法器并行工作,从而加快了尾数加法器计算结果的规格化过程,同时,这种方法会带来最多1位的误差。根据对误差的处理方式不同,将预测算法分成了3类,并详细介绍了其中的串行纠错前导1预测算法的具体结构,对其关键的组成部分在算法上进行了选择和优化。它与并行纠错LOP以及传统前导1检测(Leading One Detector,LOD)的逻辑综合的实验结果表明,该算法取得了面积、功耗和延时之间的较好均衡。在实际的应用中,该算法成功地运用在了工作频率为1GHz的三站式双通路(Two-Path)浮点加法器中。

Coupling mechanism between microscopic two-level system and superconducting qubits

Abstract: We propose a scheme to clarify the coupling nature between superconducting Josephson qubits andmicroscopic two-level systems. Although dominant interest in studying two-level systems was in phase qubits previously, we find that the sensitivity of the generally used spectral method in phase qubits is not sufficient to evaluate the exact form of the coupling. On the contrary, our numerical calculation shows that the coupling strength changes remarkably with the flux bias for a flux qubit, providing a useful tool to investigate the coupling mechanism between the two-level systems and qubits.
Processing Quantum Information in Hybrid Topological Qubit and Superconducting Flux Qubit System

Abstract: A composite system of Majorana-hosted semiconductor nanowire and superconducting flux qubit is inves- tigated. It is found that the coupling between these two subsystems can be controlled electrically, supplying a convenient method to implement {\pi}/8 phase gate of a Majorana-based topological qubit. We also present a scheme to transfer information from the flux qubit to the topological qubit using Landau-Zener transition. In addition, a structure named top-flux-flux is proposed to retrieve the information stored in the topological qubit. With the demonstration of the entanglement of two topological qubits, it is very promising to do quantum information process with this hybrid system.
