Does Inside Trading Affect Managers’ Decision-Making? A Theoretical Investigation  [PDF]

Abstract:

This paper analyzes how inside trading affects managers’ decision-making and also examines the effect of the social relations on managers. Through model analysis, the paper shows that inside trading does affect managers’ behavior. Inside trading lowers the managers’ minimum requirements for risky projects and thus has a risk-reduction effect on managers. In some cases, the existence of inside trading makes managers select projects with negative returns, which results in agency problems. When managers try to consolidate their social networks by divulging inside information, agency problems are exacerbated. This paper also analyzes the degree of risk aversion. As the degree of a manager’s risk aversion increases, the risk-reduction effect of inside trading is reduced.

Abstract: The title compound, [Mn2(C6H8O4S)(C10H8N2)4](ClO4)2, which was crystallized from an aqueous solution, features two MnII atoms in the asymmetric unit, each being coordinated by four N-atom donors from 2,2′-bipyridine ligands and two O atoms of two different 3,3′-sulfanediyldipropionate (L) ligands, with the O atoms in cis positions. The two carboxylate groups of each L ligand, which adopt a syn-anti coordination mode, combine with four MnII atoms, yielding one-dimensional chains extending along [010].

Abstract: In the title compound, [Cu2Cl2(C10H12NO3)2]·CH3OH, each of the two CuII atoms is bound to two O and one N atoms of the bis-chelating monoanionic Schiff base and two bridging chloride ligands. The metal atoms each show a distorted square-pyramidal coordination geometry. Intramolecular O—H...O hydrogen bonds occur. In the crystal, O—H...O hydrogen bonds join the components into a chain extending along the a axis.

Abstract: In the title compound, [Mn(C13H11N4O2)2], the Mn atom is coordinated in a distorted octahedral manner by pyridyl N atoms, amidrazonato N atoms and carbamoy O atoms from two tridentate N3-salicyloylpyridine-2-carboxamidrazonato ligands. N—H...O hydrogen bonds result in the formation of two chains, one parallel to the b axis and the other one parallel to the c axis. These two chains are cross-linked, building up layers parallel to the (100) plane.

Abstract: The glucocorticoid receptor (GR) is a ligand-dependent transcription factor belonging to the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily. Due to its almost ubiquitous expression, GR plays an important role in many physiological and pathological processes. These include regulation of homeostasis, adaptation to stress, and modulation of central nervous system. In addition, GR is a major modulator of the immune system due to its proficient anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive activity; and its function is important for proper regulation of many physiological processes. The exploration on the regulation of traditional Chinese medicine on GR has established a modern physiological and pathological foundation for research of traditional Chinese medicine.
Estrogen-like effects of saikosaponin-d in mice

Abstract: Objective: To investigate whether saikosaponin-d (SSd) had estrogen-like effects in mice.Methods: Forty female BALB/c mice were randomly divided into sham-operated group, untreated group, estradiol (E2) group, low-dose SSd (5 mg/kg) group and high-dose SSd (50 mg/kg) group, with 8 mice in each group. Except the sham-operated group, bilateral ovariectomy was performed in the mice under anesthesia with 1.25% pentobarbital (40 mg/kg). Ten days after the operation, the mice were administered with corresponding medicine by intraperitoneal injection once each day. Two weeks later, the rates of epithelial cornified cells of vagina in the mice were examined, and the body weights, uterus weights and adrenal weights were also measured. Twelve hours after the final administration, serum estradiol levels were tested by radioimmunoassay.Results: The rates of epithelial cornified cells of vagina in mice in the high-dose SSd group and the low-dose SSd group were higher than that in the untreated group (P<0.05), but were lower than that in the E2 group (P<0.05). Serum E2 levels of mice in the SSd groups were higher than that in the untreated group (P<0.05), but the serum E2 level of the low-dose SSd group was lower than that in the E2 group (P<0.05). Uterus and adrenal indexes of mice in the SSd groups were higher than that in the untreated group (P<0.05), however, they were lower than that in the E2 group (P<0.05). The body weights of the mice in the high-dose SSd group and the E2 group were lower than that in the untreated group (P<0.05).Conclusion: SSd has weak estrogen-like effects in mice and may be a potential phytoestrogen.
Relativistic Theory of Superluminal Particles

Abstract: Since some experiments have found superluminality, we assume that the particles in the universe are divided into three classes: the subluminal, luminal and superluminal particles by the speed of light, their energy-momenum relations are E2 = m2c4 + c2p2, E2 = c2p2, and E2 + m2c4 = c2p2, respectively. The Einstein's theory of relativity still holds and is consummated by the existence of superluminal particles, and the Lorentz symmetry of the spacetime is also not violated. There should have two sets of inertial reference systems: subluminal and superluminal reference systems. Two inertial reference systems in each set are linked by Lorentz transformations, but superluminal coordinate transformations between the two sets do not exist in the 1+3 dimensional spacetime. So the physical laws have different expressions in the two sets of inertial reference systems, the principle of special relativity should be revised.

Abstract:
Since 2011, China’s universities have established the Center of Teaching and Learning Development (CTLD), which has become a new measure to drive the teaching reform in colleges and universities, promoting the development of teachers’ teaching and learning, and improving the quality of personnel training. At present, the research on CTLD in universities has become a hot issue among the researches of higher education in China, but some basic confused questions on it are still unclear. CTLD is an exotic concept derived from the United States; therefore, in the process of localization or sinicization, we need to answer some major questions: What is the center? Why should we construct the center? How to construct it? What should be constructed? This paper maintains that CTLD in Chinese universities and colleges is a policy-driven, exogenous center construction mode which is different from the endogenous center mode of European and American universities. As a service academic entity, CTLD is designed to respond to the mission of the teacher, the change of the social environment and the needs of the teacher’s development. The construction method needs to follow the supportive, holistic, serviceable and differentiated principles, carrying out effective work under the progressive ways of foundation, expansion and characteristics to achieve the localization of the central construction, thus promoting the development of the Center so as to eventually shoulder its due mission. This paper will elaborate the China’s CTLD from five aspects, including its status quo of researches, organization orientation, origin of founding, and construction principles.
Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials and drift configurations

Abstract: The coefficients of the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials $P_{v,w}(q)$ are nonnegative integers that are upper semicontinuous on Bruhat order. Conjecturally, the same properties hold for $h$-polynomials $H_{v,w}(q)$ of local rings of Schubert varieties. This suggests a parallel between the two families of polynomials. We prove our conjectures for Grassmannians, and more generally, covexillary Schubert varieties in complete flag varieties, by deriving a combinatorial formula for $H_{v,w}(q)$. We introduce \emph{drift configurations} to formulate a new and compatible combinatorial rule for $P_{v,w}(q)$. From our rules we deduce, for these cases, the coefficient-wise inequality $P_{v,w}(q)\preceq H_{v,w}(q)$.
