A Case of Anesthetic Treatment of Appendicectomy to a Patient under Potato Poisoning  [PDF]

We reported a case of anesthetic treatment of appendicectomy to a patient under potato poisoning. The overview of potato poisoning has been reviewed in the report and the symptom of the patient under potato poisoning comparing with other appendicitis patients has been described. We highlighted the deference of methodology of anesthetic treatment comparing the patient under potato poisoning with other appendicitis patients.
Effects of gensenoside Rg1 on tau protein phosphorylation induced by okadaic acid in rat brain slices

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the effects of gensenoside Rg1 on expressions of phosphorylated tau protein (P-tau), protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) and tau protein in Alzheimer’s disease-like tau phosphorylation rat brain slices, and to explore the mechanisms of gensenoside Rg1 in inhibiting tau phosphorylation.Methods: Brains of 5-week-old Wistar rats were cut into slices which were 400 μm thick. These brain slices were randomly divided into blank control group, untreated group, low-dose ginsenoside Rg1 group, medium-dose ginsenoside Rg1 group and high-dose ginsenoside Rg1 group, with 10 slices in each group. All brain slices were cultured with artificial cerebrospinal fluid (ACSF). And brain slices in the ginsenoside R1 groups were administered with ginsenoside Rg1 (60, 120 and 240 μmol/L respectively) in ACSF for 2 h firstly. After 2-hour culture, okadaic acid (OA) was administered into ACSF of the untreated group and the ginsenoside Rg1 groups separately for 3 h to induce tau phosphorylation to prepare AD models. The concentration of OA in each group was 1 μmol/L. There was no any intervention for the brain slices in the blank control group. Expressions of P-tau, PP2A and tau proteins in the brain slices were determined by immunohistochemical method, and the results were analyzed by image acquisition and analysis system.Results: Compared with the blank control group, the expression of P-tau protein was significantly increased (P<0.01) and the expressions of tau and PP2A proteins were decreased (P<0.01, P<0.05) in the untreated group. Compared with the untreated group, the expression of P-tau was significantly decreased (P<0.01) and the expressions of tau and PP2A proteins were increased (P<0.01, P<0.05) in the ginsenoside Rg1 groups, especially in the high-dose ginsenoside Rg1 group.Conclusion: Ginsenoside Rg1 can promote dephosphorylation of P-tau by increasing the expression of PP2A in Alzheimer’s disease-like tau phosphorylation rat brain slices, so as to inhibit tau phosphorylation.

However, curious database operators may be able to find out the users' interests when the users buy something from the database. For these cases, if the digital goods have the identical prices, then a $k$-out-of-$n$ oblivious transfer protocol could help the users to hide their choices, but when the goods have different prices, this would not work. In this paper, we propose a scheme to help users to keep their choices secret when buying priced digital goods from databases.

Melasma (or chloasma) is a hyperpigmentation disorder predominantly affecting sun-exposed skin in women, and is often refractory to treatment. The objective was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a new whitening formula for the treatment of chloasma. This single centre, double-blind, placebo controlled, bilateral (split-face) comparison, was conducted on 44 Chinese subjects with chloasma during the winter season. The test formula was applied twice a day, for 12 weeks on left side of the face and a placebo formula on the right side of the face. Assessments included the use of the hemi-MASI (split-face Melasma Area Severity Index), both ultraviolet and standard photography, together with clinical evaluations of efficacy and safety at T0, T6 and T12 weeks. A significant difference between the 2-hemi-MASI was noticed after 6 and 12 weeks of treatment. This result was confirmed by the clinical evaluation of the dermatologists who recorded a significant improvement in the half-face treated with the new whitening formula compared with that treated with placebo (p = 0.003). Since Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is strongly associated with chromosomal abnormalities of 16p11.2, and Autism has been linked to neuronal polarity defect, our study aimed to explore the role of 16p11.2 genes in regulating neuronal polarity. We performed a neuronal polarity assay in a high throughput manner for candidate genes at 16p11.2. Our most interesting finding was that three 16p11.2 candidate genes, DOC2a, Tbx-6 and KIF 22, affected neuronal polarity. Our research, for the first time, indicates a novel association between 16p11.2 and neuronal polarity. Our results support the hypothesis that 16p11.2 is required for neuronal polarity. Our research provides new important insights into molecular mechanisms underlying the tight association between 16p11.2 and several neural developmental disorders, including autism, epilepsy, mental retardation and schizophrenia.
An Ion-Pair HPLC Method for Simultaneous Determination of Exogenous Phosphocreatine and Its Metabolite Creatine and Related ATP in Rabbit Plasma and RBC: Application to a Pharmacokinetic Study  [PDF]

A specific, precise and accurate ion-pair HPLC-UV method has been developed and validated for simultaneous determination of phosphocreatine (PCr), and its metabolite creatine (Cr) as well as related ATP in plasma and red blood cell (RBC) of rabbits. After addition of TMP as IS, the samples were deproteinized with 6% PCA. The analytes were separated on a Kromasil C18 column using a tertiary gradient mobile phase composed of buffer A (0.2% KH2PO4 + 0.08% tetrabutyl ammonium hydrogen sulphate, pH 3.0), buffer B (buffer A adjusted to pH 7.5 with 1 mol/L NaOH) and MeOH. Detection wavelengths were set at 210 nm for PCr and Cr and 260 nm for ATP and TMP. Some blank samples were initially run for baseline subtraction. The linear detection responses were obtained for PCr concentration over a range of 10 - 7500 mg/ml (plasma) and 5 - 2500 mg/ml (RBC) and for both Cr and ATP concentrations of 10 - 1500 mg/ml (plasma) and 5 - 750 mg/ml (RBC) (r > 0.99). The QC samples of 3 analytes showed intra-day and inter-day precisions (RSD) of <10%, accuracy of 97% - 107%. The method was successfully used to simultaneously determine plasma and RBC concentrations of the 3 analytes and to study pharmacokinetics after iv administration of PCr to rabbits.

Abstract: Introduction: The cavernous sinus (CS) is a very important concept because it is not only interesting to anatomical theory but also useful to clinical medicine, especially in the field of surgery. This paper described the microsurgical anatomy of the CS with special attention to its concept that the CS was really venous sinus or plexus. Materials and Methods: Fifty CSs from 25 Chinese adult cadaver heads fixed in 10% methanal, whose artery and vein were injected with red and blue latex, respectively, dissected stepwise under the operating microscope. Results: Asymmetric and nonintegral blue latex distributed in the cavity of the CS to form a retina with various diameters and repeatedly diverged and converged were observed under the surgical microscope with magnification 5 - 25, after the lateral wall of the CS was opened by maxillary approach. Measurement of sinus included length, diameter and triangular structure of the CS. It is very important to understand the microsurgical anatomy of the CS for neurosurgeons. Conclusion: The CS was venous plexus rather than sinus. The lateral wall of the sinus had two layers, and the lateral cavity of the sinus really did exist even though it was very small. The triangles where maxillary approach passed were more important for neurosurgeons.
Clustering Network Topology Control Method Based on Responsibility Transmission  [PDF]

Abstract: The topology control is an effective approach which can improve the quality of wireless sensor network at all sides. Through studying the mechanism of sensor network data transmission, the nature of data transmission in wireless sensor network is concluded as a kind of responsibility transmission. By redefining the responsibility and availability of nodes, the strategy for cluster head selection is studied, the responsibility and availability is determined by the combination of the residual energy, location and current flow of nodes. Based on the above, new clustering network topology control algorithm based on responsibility transmission CNTCABRT and hierarchical multi-hop CNTCABRT is presented in this paper, whose algorithm structure is along the famous LEACH algorithm. Experimental result demonstrates its promising performance over the famous LEACH algorithm in the cluster head selection, the size of cluster, the deployment of nodes and the lifetime of nodes, and several innovative conclusions are proposed finally.
Dynamic Response Analysis of High-Speed Train Gearbox Housing Based on Equivalent Acceleration Amplitude Method  [PDF]

Abstract: Gearbox, as the crucial transmission equipment of high-speed train drive system, bears mainly the impact of wheel-rail excitation during its application, resulting in fatigue failure of the housing structure. In order to analyze the vibration characteristics of the high-speed train gearbox housing, a test had been performed under operating condition on Wuhan-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, where a host of vibration characteristics of different parts of housing had been obtained, and vibration signals had also been comparatively analyzed using acceleration amplitude spectrum and equivalent acceleration amplitude method. The result showed that the vibration level of the measuring point A on the joint part of the gearbox housing and axle bearing block was higher than that of the measuring point B on the upper part of the gearbox housing, both horizontally and vertically. And there existed attenuation during the transmission process of vibration from point A to Point B. Further, when a train was moving at a high speed, the gearbox vibration at the head carriage was better than that at the tail carriage. In addition, when a train slowed down from 300 km/h to 200 km/h, the horizontal equivalent acceleration amplitude dropped by 58% while the vertical one declined by 62%. Equivalent acceleration amplitude method was used to identify the vibration relations among different parts of housing, and the validity and applicability of this method were verified by data analysis. The study provided reference to ensure the operating safety of high-speed train drive system and design of new housing structure.

Abstract: We developed an efficient bisulfite reads mapping algorithm BSMAP to address the above issues. BSMAP combines genome hashing and bitwise masking to achieve fast and accurate bisulfite mapping. Compared with existing bisulfite mapping approaches, BSMAP is faster, more sensitive and more flexible.BSMAP is the first general-purpose bisulfite mapping software. It is able to map high-throughput bisulfite reads at whole genome level with feasible memory and CPU usage. It is freely available under GPL v3 license at http://code.google.com/p/bsmap/ webcite.Cytosine (C) DNA methylation plays a crucial role in various biological processes such as gene expression, chromatin accessibility, and imprinting, as well as in many diseases including cancer. Over the decades, bisulfite sequencing [1] has remained the gold standard for DNA methylation analysis. Bisulfite treatment of DNA followed by PCR amplification leads to a chemical conversion of unmethylated Cs to Ts without affecting As, Gs, Ts or methylated Cs. This C to T conversion results in non-complementarity in the two strands of DNA (Figure 1). Following strand-specific and locus-specific PCR amplification, direct- or pyro-sequencing is used to determine the methylation ratio of any given C locus as the proportion of remaining Cs in all the sequencing reads. This PCR-based procedure is very labor intensive and time-consuming, and therefore inappropriate for high throughput studies.Tremendous progress has been achieved in the past two years in the development of massively parallel sequencing such as Illumina/Solexa and Applied Biosystems/SOLiD. Tens of millions of short tags (36–75 bases) can now be simultaneously sequenced at less than 1% of the cost of traditional Sanger methods. Without the locus-specific PCR step, bisulfite treatment coupled with next-generation shotgun sequencing (BS-seq) [2-4] has become a powerful technique with the potential to quantitatively detect the methylation pattern of every C in the genome.
