PLEADING FOR AN INTEGRATED CURRICULUM
LUMINI?A MIHAELA DR?GHICESCU,GABRIEL GORGHIU,LAURA MONICA GORGHIU,ANA-MARIA PETRESCU
Journal of Science and Arts , 2013,
Abstract: Having as goal an optimum adaptation and reporting to the actual world in which we live, it is a clear direction in the actual education to “break” the traditional pattern of school disciplines (keeping in mind that the actual curriculum is still centered on disciplines) and to create several “bridges” between them, trying to observe effectively what is “beyond the disciplines”. In this respect, it was proposed the teachers’ training programme “PROFILES - Education through Sciences”, organized in the frame of the FP7 project “PROFILES - Professional Reflection Oriented Focus on Inquiry-based Learning and Education through Science”, which aims to the development of the professional-didactic competences of Science teachers (Chemistry, Physics and Biology), in strong relation to scientific investigation, valorization of pupils’ individual experiences, integrated approaches in the Science field and achievement of an educational demarché, in accordance with the constructivist paradigm principles. A modern education for and through Science, centered on competences, implies the promotion of an integrated curriculum that gathers Science fundamental scientific contents and abilities, practical skills, attitudes and values.
RESEARCH PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF CHEMISTRY GROUP FROM VALAHIA UNIVERSITY TARGOVISTE
SILVIU JIPA,LAURA MONICA GORGHIU,CRINELA DUMITRESCU,CALIN OROS
Journal of Science and Arts , 2012,
Abstract: This article presents an analysis of the scientific performance obtained by the Chemistry Group members of Department of Science from Valahia University using traditional scientometric indicators, including h-index and a new method for calculating the scientific productivity. The article also includes the results of a study which explores the time-dependence of h-index.
ASSESSING OF THE RESEARCH OUTPUT USING HIRSCH INDEX IN THE CHEMISTRY GROUP FROM VALAHIA UNIVERSITY OF TARGOVISTE
SILVIU JIPA,LAURA MONICA GORGHIU,CRINELA DUMITRESCU,CALIN OROS
Journal of Science and Arts , 2011,
Abstract: The evaluation of the scientific activity of individual and institutional research outputs has long attracted significant interest. The scientific performances of the Faculty of Sciences and Arts in the Valahia University of Targoviste were analyzed using different scientometric indicators (number of published papers, influence score, impact factor, Hirsch index a.s.o). For Hirsch determination different databases has been used (Advanced Google, Scholar, Scopus, ISI Web of Science, Google Academic). A remarkable finding was the outstanding performance in basic sciences where high level research has been evidenced.
NEW METRICS FOR RESEARCH OUTPUTS FROM THE CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT IN VALAHIA UNIVERSITY OF TARGOVISTE
SILVIU JIPA,LAURA MONICA GORGHIU,CRINELA DUMITRESCU,CALIN OROS
Journal of Science and Arts , 2012,
Abstract: This article presents a further study related to the analysis of the scientific performance obtained by the Chemistry Department members from Valahia University using different scientometric indicators described in the scientific literature, including Hirsch index, selectivity and amplitude. The paper also contains the description of the method for calculating the Hirsch-index dependence on the Chemistry Department member’s research age, determined from the publication of their first scientific paper. Some results concerning the h-index normalization by a factor that reflects the average number of co-authors are also included.
RANKING CHEMISTRY JOURNALS USING THE HIRSCH INDEX AND ARTICLE INFLUENCE SCORE
SILVIU JIPA,LAURA MONICA GORGHIU,CRINELA DUMITRESCU,CALIN OROS
Journal of Science and Arts , 2012,
Abstract: This study presents the Hirsch-index, impact factor and article influence score for the ranking of Chemistry journals. The study concludes that the Hirsch-index exhibits a good correlation with the influence score. A correlation of 60 Chemistry journals is analyzed.
ACADEMIC CHEMISTRY IN ROMANIA – SOME SCIENTIFIC RESULTS
SILVIU JIPA,LAURA MONICA GORGHIU,CRINELA DUMITRESCU,CALIN OROS
Journal of Science and Arts , 2013,
Abstract: The paper analyzes a series of bibliometric indicators related to the research performance of Chemistry professors in different Romanian universities. The total number of ISI papers, total number of citations, number of citations per paper, number of citations per year and Hirsch indices have been used to evaluate their research output. The individual professor’s Hirsch-index linearly depends on the scientometric indicators of the journal in “h-core”, namely the impact factor, influence score and the journal’s Hirsch-index.
APPLYING NEW SCIENTOMETRIC INDICATORS TO EVALUATE THE SCIENTIFIC PERFORMANCE OF CHEMISTRY GROUP FROM VALACHIA UNIVERSITY OF TARGOVISTE
SILVIU JIPA,LAURA MONICA GORGHIU,CRINELA DUMITRESCU,CALIN OROS
Journal of Science and Arts , 2011,
Abstract: The paper describes different new indicators measuring research output by application to Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Sciences and Arts from Valahia University of Targoviste. We have also analyzed the Hirsch indices calculated with different relations proposed in literature. We have compared the data obtained in our study with the results of other studies done in other universities and circumstances.
RESEARCH OUTPUT NEW EVALUATION OF CHEMISTRY GROUP IN VALAHIA UNIVERSITY WITH THE USE OF VARIOUS BIBLIOMETRIC INDICATORS
SILVIU JIPA,LAURA MONICA GORGHIU,CRINELA DUMITRESCU,CALIN OROS
Journal of Science and Arts , 2012,
Abstract: The current paper uses bibliometric data to investigate the research performance of the Chemistry Group from the Faculty of Sciences and Arts in Valahia University of Targoviste. The analyses are based on the Web of Science database. We present the research output such as the number of scientific papers and the citation impact as well as the Hirsch (h) and g indices. In addition, in this paper, we have applied new indices to characterize the scientific productivity of the researchers.
LABOUR FORCE PERCEPTIONS ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EDUCATION SYSTEM PERFORMANCES AND LABOUR MARKET REQUIREMENTS
Gina Cristina DIMIAN,Monica ROMAN,Laura MURE?AN
Revista Roman? de Statistic? , 2012,
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to investigate some of the educational mismatches occurred in the Romanian labour market and to try to find solutions for a more rapid adaptation of the education system to labour market transformations. The analysis is based on a quantitative research aimed at studying employers’ opinions related to the relationship between education system performances and labour market requirements. The results show that even in a crisis period when unemployment is at high values, employers have difficulties in fi nding appropriate qualifications for some jobs, or the right candidate for the vacancies. Even current employees lack some important abilities or skills such us: motivation, loyalty or responsibility.
Minimum scoring rule inference
Philip Dawid,Monica Musio,Laura Ventura
Statistics , 2014,
Abstract: Proper scoring rules are methods for encouraging honest assessment of probability distributions. Just like likelihood, a proper scoring rule can be applied to supply an unbiased estimating equation for any statistical model, and the theory of such equations can be applied to understand the properties of the associated estimator. In this paper we develop some basic scoring rule estimation theory, and explore robustness and interval estimation properties by means of theory and simulations.
