As redes importam para o acesso a bens e servi?os obtidos fora de mercados?
Marques, Eduardo C. L.;
Revista Brasileira de Ciências Sociais , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-69092009000300003
Abstract: this article discusses the role of social networks and sociability in the access by poor people to goods and services obtained outside of markets. the article uses qualitative information from a research about social networks of poor individuals living in segregated places in s?o paulo, as well as middle class individuals used as a control. the results show the importance of networks and suggest that the helps that mediate the accesses depend upon the types of ties and trust involved, as well as the cost of helping. the observed processes tend to reiterate inequalities, establishing circularities of poverty reproduction.
Artificial magnetism and left handed media from dielectric rings and rods
L. Jelinek,R. Marques
Physics , 2009, DOI: 10.1088/0953-8984/22/2/025902
Abstract: It is shown that artificial magnetism with relatively large frequency bandwidth can be obtained from periodic arrangements of dielectric rings. Combined with dielectric rods, dielectric rings can provide 3D isotropic left-handed metamaterials being an advantageous alternative to metallic split ring resonators and/or metallic wires when un-detectability by low frequency external magnetic fields is desired. Furthermore it is shown that dielectric rings can be also combined with natural plasma-like media to obtain a left-handed metamaterial.
In Situ Hydroxyapatite Synthesis: Influence of Collagen on Its Structural and Morphological Characteristic  [PDF]
Luis C. Mendes, Geysy L. Ribeiro, Raphaella C. Marques
Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2012.38083
Abstract: Hydroxyapatite (HA) was synthesized in situ by the precipitation method, with and without the presence of collagen (COLL), to study its influence on HA’s structural and morphological characteristics. The material was characterized by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The Ca/P molar ratio was influenced by collagen addition—1.89 and 2.38 for samples without and with collagen, respectively. The WAXD pattern revealed better resolution and intensity besides higher crystallinity degree of the HA in the presence of collagen. The photomicrographs showed a strong influence of collagen on the HA morphology.

Ajustando o foco atencional de alunos adultos a itens gramaticais opacos: conectivos concessivos
Marques, Ana Lúcia Pitanguy;
Revista Brasileira de Linguística Aplicada , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1984-63982010000400003
Abstract: this paper shows the core - the methodology - as well as the quantitative analyses and promising findings of an investigation on the effects of redirecting adult learners' attentional foci to specific areas of a foreign language - english. the work carried out to trigger learners' awareness and 'noticing' of the concessive connectives in subordinate clauses took place during classroom practice and was implemented through a series of thematically-integrated tasks. those aimed at exposing learners to a treatment focus that was more recurrent and salient. the findings suggest that activities which triggered the 'noticing' of the treatment foci were the main responsible for the significant changes in the use of the target structures in the written texts, and possibly for the rise of the participants' level of linguistic competence in their written production.

Abstract Since September 11th 2001, debates over Islam have been intensified in search for plausible explanations for the terrorist attacks to the World Trade Center. Questions on what Muslims and Islam are have been at stake, above all, in the national and international media nowadays, one of the most important information sources as well as for building our cognitive worlds. Inspired by the scenario as well as by the growing number of Muslims in the world, almost a quarter of the population, included converted Muslims, I decided to observe and compare two fields, Brazil and Portugal, taking note about the richly relations between religion and culture, tradition and modernity. They are two fields with different origins, religious tendencies, schools of thought, religious movements, which have resulted not only in diversity, but also in similarity, conflict and dilemma. In observing that the difference also unites all Muslims in the world. Key words: Islam; Muslims; Converted.

In a contemporary perspective, I have centered my efforts, through interviews, field observations, other researches and different kinds of data sources, in order to understand the Islamic religious universe, placing my attention not only on migrant Muslims but also on converted Muslims. The goal is to understand cultural and religious differences contained in their practice. Diversification and Species Boundaries of Rhinebothrium (Cestoda; Rhinebothriidea) in South American Freshwater Stingrays (Batoidea; Potamotrygonidae)
Florian B. Reyda, Fernando P. L. Marques
PLOS ONE , 2011, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0022604
Abstract: Background Neotropical freshwater stingrays (Batoidea: Potamotrygonidae) host a diverse parasite fauna, including cestodes. Both cestodes and their stingray hosts are marine-derived, but the taxonomy of this host/parasite system is poorly understood. Methodology Morphological and molecular (Cytochrome oxidase I) data were used to investigate diversity in freshwater lineages of the cestode genus Rhinebothrium Linton, 1890. Results were based on a phylogenetic hypothesis for 74 COI sequences and morphological analysis of over 400 specimens. Cestodes studied were obtained from 888 individual potamotrygonids, representing 14 recognized and 18 potentially undescribed species from most river systems of South America. Results Morphological species boundaries were based mainly on microthrix characters observed with scanning electron microscopy, and were supported by COI data. Four species were recognized, including two redescribed (Rhinebothrium copianullum and R. paratrygoni), and two newly described (R. brooksi n. sp. and R. fulbrighti n. sp.). Rhinebothrium paranaensis Menoret & Ivanov, 2009 is considered a junior synonym of R. paratrygoni because the morphological features of the two species overlap substantially. The diagnosis of Rhinebothrium Linton, 1890 is emended to accommodate the presence of marginal longitudinal septa observed in R. copianullum and R. brooksi n. sp. Patterns of host specificity and distribution ranged from use of few host species in few river basins, to use of as many as eight host species in multiple river basins. Significance The level of intra-specific morphological variation observed in features such as total length and number of proglottids is unparalleled among other elasmobranch cestodes. This is attributed to the large representation of host and biogeographical samples. It is unclear whether the intra-specific morphological variation observed is unique to this freshwater system. Nonetheless, caution is urged when using morphological discontinuities to delimit elasmobranch cestode species because the amount of variation encountered is highly dependent on sample size and/or biogeographical representation.

Abstract: in today's highly competitive scenario, the industrial and retail sectors seek alternatives to ensure their continuity in the brazilian market. to meet consumer expectations, one of the alternatives these sectors have devised is to offer a mix of products tailored to the profile of each group of customers. within this context, the category management (cm) tool and other efficient consumer response (ecr) practices have begun to take hold in the daily routine, culture and strategies of companies. to illustrate how the cm can be an efficiency-optimizing tool in supply chain management, this article discusses the main actions to be developed in the implementation of this tool in small and medium sized supermarkets, its facilitating and limiting characteristics, and criteria for the choice of business partners.
Towards a systematic design of isotropic bulk magnetic metamaterials using the cubic point groups of symmetry
J. D. Baena,L. Jelinek,R. Marques
Physics , 2007, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevB.76.245115
Abstract: In this paper a systematic approach to the design of bulk isotropic magnetic metamaterials is presented. The role of the symmetries of both the constitutive element and the lattice are analyzed. For this purpose it is assumed that the metamaterial is composed by cubic SRR resonators, arranged in a cubic lattice. The minimum symmetries needed to ensure an isotropic behavior are analyzed, and some particular configurations are proposed. Besides, an equivalent circuit model is proposed for the considered cubic SRR resonators. Experiments are carried out in order to validate the proposed theory. We hope that this analysis will pave the way to the design of bulk metamaterials with strong isotropic magnetic response, including negative permeability and left-handed metamaterials.
