This work analyses the recuperation of the energy of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) through the incineration process. It considers the up to date tendency of segregation (separation) of plastic, paper and cardboard, glass and metals and their influence in the fluxes of mass and energy in the incineration system of MSW. For its development was used information related to the generation of MSW in Bauru city and the Combust software. The results so obtained allowed the estimation of the Caloric power of the typical MSW and also of this residue when one considers the separations of paper/cardboard and plastic for recycling.

Abstract: introduction: the knee joint stands out as a structure that is commonly affected by degenerative alterations, injuries and syndromes. precise objective clinical evaluations are necessary for establishing appropriate diagnoses and, consequently, better results from both surgical procedures and rehabilitation programs. objective: to investigate the existence of differences between the knees during gait and their relationship with the static difference in the sagittal and frontal planes. method: forty-five healthy subjects were included, of whom 21 were male and 24 were female. knee joint range of motion was measured during gait by means of flexible electrogoniometry. the static posture of the knee was evaluated by means of photogrammetry. the data were analyzed descriptively and the pearson correlation coefficient was applied. results: the individuals presented mean values that were similar for right and left knees in static recordings of the sagittal and frontal planes (difference of approximately 0.5o). however, the standard deviation was large, thus indicating great variability between the subjects. for the dynamic recordings, the difference between the knees was 0.4o for the sagittal plane and 1o for the frontal plane. the variability found was also large, especially for the frontal plane. there was no correlation between the static and dynamic recordings in the two planes of motion evaluated (r = -0.003 and p = 0.492 for the sagittal plane; r = -0.014 and p = 0.465 for the frontal plane). conclusion: although no relationship was found between the static and dynamic recordings, this matter deserves investigation in future studies, with evaluations of broader groups with specific and more pronounced postural abnormalities.
Detecting bit-flip errors in a logical qubit using stabilizer measurements

Abstract: Quantum data is susceptible to decoherence induced by the environment and to errors in the hardware processing it. A future fault-tolerant quantum computer will use quantum error correction (QEC) to actively protect against both. In the smallest QEC codes, the information in one logical qubit is encoded in a two-dimensional subspace of a larger Hilbert space of multiple physical qubits. For each code, a set of non-demolition multi-qubit measurements, termed stabilizers, can discretize and signal physical qubit errors without collapsing the encoded information. Experimental demonstrations of QEC to date, using nuclear magnetic resonance, trapped ions, photons, superconducting qubits, and NV centers in diamond, have circumvented stabilizers at the cost of decoding at the end of a QEC cycle. This decoding leaves the quantum information vulnerable to physical qubit errors until re-encoding, violating a basic requirement for fault tolerance. Using a five-qubit superconducting processor, we realize the two parity measurements comprising the stabilizers of the three-qubit repetition code protecting one logical qubit from physical bit-flip errors. We construct these stabilizers as parallelized indirect measurements using ancillary qubits, and evidence their non-demolition character by generating three-qubit entanglement from superposition states. We demonstrate stabilizer-based quantum error detection (QED) by subjecting a logical qubit to coherent and incoherent bit-flip errors on its constituent physical qubits. While increased physical qubit coherence times and shorter QED blocks are required to actively safeguard quantum information, this demonstration is a critical step toward larger codes based on multiple parity measurements.

Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2005,
Abstract: Following reports of two autochthonous cases of sylvatic yellow fever in the State of S o Paulo, Brazil, in 2000, entomological surveys were conducted with the objective of verifying the occurrence of vector species in forest environments close to or associated with riparian areas located in the western and northwestern regions of the State. Culicidae were captured in 39 sites distributed in four regions. Haemagogus leucocelaenus and Aedes albopictus were the most abundant species and were captured in all the regions studied. H. leucocelaenus was the most abundant species in the municipalities of Santa Albertina and Ouroeste, where the two cases of sylvatic yellow fever had been reported. Mosquitoes from the janthinomys/capricornii group were only found at eight sites in the S o José do Rio Preto region, while Sabethes chloropterus was found at one site in Ribeir o Preto. H. leucocelaenus showed its capacity to adapt to a secondary and degraded environment. Our results indicate a wide receptive area for yellow fever transmission in the State of S o Paulo, with particular emphasis on the possibility of H. leucocelaenus being involved in the maintenance of this sylvatic focus of the disease.
