Variaciones meióticas y evolución cromosómica en insectos y arácnidos con cromosomas holocinéticos

BAG. Journal of basic and applied genetics , 2011,
Abstract: cytogenetic studies in model groups of insects (odonata and heteroptera) and arachnids (dysderoidea and buthidae) with holokinetic chromosomes allowed us to identify differences in autosomes and sex chromosomes meiotic behaviour (pre-or post-reductional meiosis, chiasmatic or achiasmatic meiosis, telokinetic or holokinetic activity). also, we detected differences in the frequency and distribution of chromosomal mutations (fusions, fragmentations and translocations both in homozygosity or heterozygosity) in the karyotype evolution mechanisms.

Market forecasting using Hidden Markov Models

Computer Science , 2015,
Abstract: Working on the daily closing prices and logreturns, in this paper we deal with the use of Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) to forecast the price of the EUR/USD Futures. The aim of our work is to understand how the HMMs describe different financial time series depending on their structure. Subsequently, we analyse the forecasting methods exposed in the previous literature, putting on evidence their pros and cons.
Comparative Meiotic Studies in Triatoma sordida (St l) and T. guasayana Wygodzinsky & Abalos (Reduviidae, Heteroptera)

Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1998,
Abstract: Triatoma sordida and T. guasayana are competent Trypanosoma cruzi vectors, with overlapping distribution areas in Argentina. Both species are morphologically similar, and their immature stages are hard to discriminate. Cytogenetic studies in the genus Triatoma reveal scarce karyotypic variations, being 2n= 20 + XY the most frequent diploid number in males. In the present work the meiotic behaviour of different Argentinian populations of T. sordida and T. guasayana has been analyzed; the meiotic karyotype of both species has also been compared. The species differ in total chromosome area and in the relative area of the sex chromosomes. These meiotic karyotypic differences constitute an additional tool for the taxonomic characterization of T. sordida and T. guasayana. The analysis of an interpopulation hybrid of T. sordida (Brazil x Argentina) reveals a regular meiotic behaviour, despite the presence of heteromorphic bivalents. Our observations support the hypothesis that karyotype variations through the gain or loss of heterochromatin can not be considered as a primary mechanism of reproductive isolation in Triatoma.
Prevention of foodborne listeriosis

Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology , 2009,
Abstract: Listeria monocytogenes is a foodborne pathogen that can cause serious invasive illness, mainly in certain well-defined high-risk groups, including elderly and immunocompromised patients, pregnant women, newborns and infants. L. monocytogenes primarily causes abortion, septicemia or meningitis. Contaminated meats (such as hot dogs, delicatessen meats and patι), dairy products and seafood have all been implicated in outbreaks of listeriosis. The public health importance of listeriosis is not always recognized, particularly because listeriosis is a relatively rare disease compared with other common foodborne illnesses such as salmonellosis or botulism. However, because of its high case fatality rate, listeriosis ranks among the most frequent causes of death due to foodborne illness, ranking second after salmonellosis. L. monocytogenes emerged as an important foodborne pathogen in the latter part of the 20th century. Extensive work has been performed in many countries during the last decade to prevent outbreaks and decrease the incidence of listeriosis. An important reduction occurred in listeriosis incidence in some of these countries during the 90s, suggesting a relationship between preventive measures and incidence decrease of human listeriosis.
On the Relation Between the Common Labelling and the Median Graph

Computer Science , 2012, DOI: 10.1007/978-3-642-34166-31_2
Abstract: In structural pattern recognition, given a set of graphs, the computation of a Generalized Median Graph is a well known problem. Some methods approach the problem by assuming a relation between the Generalized Median Graph and the Common Labelling problem. However, this relation has still not been formally proved. In this paper, we analyse such relation between both problems. The main result proves that the cost of the common labelling upper-bounds the cost of the median with respect to the given set. In addition, we show that the two problems are equivalent in some cases.
On the Dark Matter’s Halo Theoretical Description  [PDF]

Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2012.35052
Abstract: We argued that the standard field scalar potential couldn’t be widely used for getting the adequate galaxies’ curve lines and determining the profiles of dark matter their halo. For discovering the global properties of scalar fields that can describe the observable characteristics of dark matter on the cosmological space and time scales, we propose the simplest form of central symmetric potential celestial-mechanical type, i.e. U(φ) = –μ/φ. It was shown that this potential allows get rather satisfactorily dark matter profiles and rotational curves lines for dwarf galaxies. The good agreement with some previous results, based on the N-body simulation method, was pointed out. A new possibility of dwarf galaxies’ masses estimation was given, also.
