Health (Health) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/health.2013.52A044
Abstract:
Asthma is traditionally defined as a chronic, multisystem, multicellular disease characterized by bronchial hyper-responsiveness (BHR) and lung inflammation. In this illness is particularly involving the airway epithelium as the place where the inflammation begins, develops and often returns through airway remodelling. In specific way there is also an evolving awareness of the active participation of structural elements, such as the airway epithelium, airway smooth muscle, and endothelium, in this process. The airway inflammation and remodelling together likely explain the clinical manifestations of asthma that is demonstrated by complicated respiratory manifestations in which wheeze occurring secondary to bronchoconstriction in the setting of airway hyper-responsiveness and mucous hypersecretion. This is confirmed by also the histopathological analyses of bronchial biopsies from asthmatic subjects. For this reason is very important to understand the physiological role of the airway epithelium and their changes during the exacerbation of disease.
PROM:A Support for Robust Replication in a Distributed Object Environment
A.Corradi,L.Leonardi
计算机科学技术学报 , 1990,
Abstract: The concept of object can be employed to achieve tolerance to hardware faults in distributed systems.Replication by introducing several copies for each object allows a continuous service even in case of failure. In particular, the paper describes an object model,PROM,which exploits replication by defining several passive back-up copies for any object. The system automatically reovers any failure of a copy in execution by activating a spare copy and restarting it from a previous checkpoint. The aim of the paper is the analysis of the effective support for PROM.This support is organized in structured levels on a distributed architecture. The services that the support should include to guarantee the desired replication model are described.
PMWS (Postweaning Multisystemic Wasting Syndrome) In Central Italy: Histopathological, Immunohistochemical and Ultrastructural Findings

International Journal of Veterinary Science , 2012,
Abstract: We describe the presence of Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV-2) in thirteen pigs necropsied in Department of Biopathological Sciences and Hygiene of Animal and Alimentary Productions in Perugia. Sistemic lymphadenopathy, sometimes haemorrhagic and necrotic, spleen enlarged thymus atrophic, lungs collapse and consolidated, were the principal gross findings. The most consistent histological lesion was a moderate to severe lymphocellular depletion in lymphoid organs, syncytial giant cell formation, and intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies in macrophages. PCV-2 was immunohistochemically detected in all pigs with PMWS. Electron microscopy investigations demonstrated viral particles compatible with Porcine PCV-2.
Fractal Dimension for the Characterization of the Porosity of Asphalt Concretes
G. Leonardi
Archives of Civil Engineering , 2010, DOI: 10.2478/v.10169-010-0018-5
Abstract: In the design of asphalt mixtures for paving, the choice of components has a remarkable importance, as requirements of quality and durability must be assured in use, guaranteeing adequate standards of safety and comfort. In this paper, an approach of analysis on the aggregate materials using fractal geometry is proposed. Following an analytical and an experimental approach, it was possible to find a correlation between characteristics of the asphalt concrete (specific gravity and porosity) and the fractal dimension of the aggregate mixtures. The studies revealed that this approach allows to draw the optimal fractal dimension and, consequently, it can be used to choose an appropriate aggregate gradation for the specific application; once the appropriate initial physical parameters are finalized. This fractal approach could be employed for predicting the porosity of mixed asphalt concretes, given as input the fractal characteristics of the aggregate mixtures of the concrete materials.

Local justice and power of an official nature in Southern Sudan
Cherry Leonardi
Revista CIDOB d'Afers Internacionals , 2009,
Abstract: In this article, the author examines the growing ambiguity that characterises the administration of justice in southern Sudan since an autonomous government was set up, thanks to the 2005 peace agreement. While the State was a distant, separate body owing to the monopoly exerted over it by the peoples of the North, its courts of justice, precarious though they might be, could be viewed in the South as an agent that is neutral, albeit distant from local power networks: it was considered to be the hakuna sphere of power, to which people would only resort after the closest systems of conflict resolution (based on family ties) had failed. However, the creation of an autonomous government has brought the hakuna sphere closer to local reality, creating interferences between two realities that had become accustomed to functioning in a parallel manner. This new situation has generated new dynamics as regards how to react to local conflicts and also, logically, with respect to how to go about resolving them.
Il progetto Waterfront: la riqualificazione del porto di Napoli The Waterfront project in Naples
Robert Leonardi
TeMA : Journal of Land Use, Mobility and Environment , 2009, DOI: 10.6092/1970-9870/87
In the last decade Naples the port of Naples has rediscovered its wide-ranging role not merely concerned with the sea but also with the adjacent city. A strong connection has now returned between Naples and its port: the elimination of the barriers around the port and the pedestrianisation of the tourist area will help to link the city with its port and, as a consequence, with the sea. The rationalisation and specialisation plans of the port area mean that the port will become an increasingly dynamic force working in harmony with the city and its hinterland. Now no longer an obstacle, the port of Naples has a wide range of activities (commercial, productive, tourism and cultural) which all use the sea as a point of exchange, transformation and growth. One of the principal project of the reconnection of the port of Naples and the surrounding city is the Waterfront Project. The Waterfront project take part of a bigger renewal process that the city of Naples and the Port authority of Naples are working on, that and which is going to focus on the following issues: - Taking the cruise traffic to develop new attractive/ aggregative poles for cruise tourists and inhabitants on the waterfront in deprived areas. - Conjugating the safety theme with the permeability of the port by the inhabitants and the tourists and toning down the physical obstacles. - Rationalizing the organization of the port and improving the passenger port area. - Encouraging a better utilization of the historical and monumental heritage of t
