From Tucuruí to Belo Monte: the history really progresses?
Lúcio Flávio Pinto
Boletim do Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi. Ciências Humanas , 2012,
Abstract: The essay reflects on the construction of the Tucuruí Hydroelectric Power Plant, in the Tocantins River, Brazil, and compares it to the Belo Monte plant, currently being raised on the Xingu River. The first was planned and built during the military dictatorship in Brazil (1964-1985) and the second, during a period considered democratic. The author criticizes the lack of transparency and the evidences of corruption in the history of Tucuruí, problems that seem to rise again with Belo Monte, thirty years later. He concludes that the federal government, responsible for both works, continues to disregard the adverse effects of large infrastructure projects in the Amazon.

Abstract: walker carcinossarcoma 256 has a great interest as experimental model for studies on tumoral biology. objective: develop a kidney tumor model to be used in the evaluation of the biological behavior of neoplasms in vitro and in vivo environments. methods: twenty adult male wistar rats weighting between 250-300 g were obtained from the federal university of the ceará experimental surgery laboratory. upon ether anesthesia, the right kidney of each animal was accessed through a supraumbelical incision and inoculated with a solution containing 3 x 105 tumor cells (walker 256 carcinossarcoma tumor cells). following anesthetic recovery the rats were returned to their cages, housed individually and allowed to eat and drink ad libitum. results: the post-operative average survival was 14 days. tumor growth was encountered in all animals. the rats exhibited destruction of the kidney, invasion of the adjacent structures, but absence of metastasis. conclusion: the kidney walker tumor model proved to be an excellent tool for experimental studies on tumor behavior, due to its rapid growth and its easy reproduction.

Vieira, Flávio Lúcio Rodrigues;
Caderno CRH , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-49792008000100009
Abstract: in this article, the participation of the world bank in the financing of the cooperar plan is studied. cooperar is a plan to combat poverty, in execution by the paraíba government since 1997. in the first part, we focused on the bird performance, analyzing the changes ocurred in the strategies applied in the northeast and to growing participation of that international institution in the financing of development politics for the area. we tried to emphasize the changes occurred in world bank strategy regarding the financing of projects guided by the idea of rural development, experiences that were fundamental for the improvement of the mechanisms of bird performance in brazil and that constitute precedent elements of the strategy to combat poverty in the northeast during the decade of 1990. in the second part, the analysis is guided to the cooperar project, example of policy to combat poverty in the northeast, when its origins, its strategy and the level of interference of the world bank in the implementation of the development strategy are examined.

Evolution of All-or-None Strategies in Repeated Public Goods Dilemmas
Flávio L. Pinheiro ,Vítor V. Vasconcelos ,Francisco C. Santos ,Jorge M. Pacheco
PLOS Computational Biology , 2014, DOI: doi/10.1371/journal.pcbi.1003945
Abstract: Many problems of cooperation involve repeated interactions among the same groups of individuals. When collective action is at stake, groups often engage in Public Goods Games (PGG), where individuals contribute (or not) to a common pool, subsequently sharing the resources. Such scenarios of repeated group interactions materialize situations in which direct reciprocation to groups may be at work. Here we study direct group reciprocity considering the complete set of reactive strategies, where individuals behave conditionally on what they observed in the previous round. We study both analytically and by computer simulations the evolutionary dynamics encompassing this extensive strategy space, witnessing the emergence of a surprisingly simple strategy that we call All-Or-None (AoN). AoN consists in cooperating only after a round of unanimous group behavior (cooperation or defection), and proves robust in the presence of errors, thus fostering cooperation in a wide range of group sizes. The principles encapsulated in this strategy share a level of complexity reminiscent of that found already in 2-person games under direct and indirect reciprocity, reducing, in fact, to the well-known Win-Stay-Lose-Shift strategy in the limit of the repeated 2-person Prisoner's Dilemma.

Claúdio Alves Costa,Lúcio Flávio Renault de Moraes,Vera L. Can?ado
Revista Gest?o & Tecnologia , 2008,
