Violência intrafamiliar e intimida??o entre colegas no ensino fundamental

Abstract: the primary purpose of the present investigation was to examine the relationship between bullying and different types of direct and indirect family violence. the research was conducted with 239 grades 5-8 students, 34.7% boys and 65.3% girls. a questionnaire was constructed, containing: questions involving socio-demographic variables; items of the revised conflict tactic scale, with the goal of examining the youngster's exposure to interparental violence; and items of the parent-child conflict tactics scales, concerning physical and psychological abuse committed by parents against children. bullying and victimization were measured by 26 items developed specially for the study's purpose, based on a modified version of olweus' questionnaire. associations were found between bullying and domestic violence, but these associations were different according to gender. being exposed to domestic violence was associated with being a bully/victim in school (especially for girls), but not with being a victim of bullying. on the other hand, parental violence increased the probability of boys reporting being implied in bullying as victims or as bully/victims. in terms of the girls, suffering parental violence was only associated as being a bully/victim.

Abstract: the school proves to be an ideal place for detection and intervention in child sexual abuse cases, since the main aggressor is found generally within the family. considering that one of the school's objectives should be to guarantee the quality of life of its pupils, as well as to promote citizenship, in order to develop a program to train teachers on what to do in cases of sexual abuse, it seems necessary first to survey the universe of information teachers have about the subject, the existing legislation, and the children's rights. this study aimed to characterize the information that twenty educators in municipal schools for early child education in a medium size city had about child sexual abuse. the data obtained were analyzed and divided into seven categories. the results indicate that the majority of educators had insufficient information on the subject, affirming as well that they took inadequate measures when faced with cases of children who suffered sexual abuse.

Abstract: A escola mostra-se como lugar ideal para detec o e interven o em casos de abuso sexual infantil, uma vez que o principal agressor geralmente encontra-se na família. Considerando que a escola deve ter como objetivo garantir a qualidade de vida de sua clientela, bem como promover a cidadania, para delinear um programa que possa capacitar tais profissionais em casos de abuso sexual, parece necessário, em primeiro lugar, conhecer o universo de informa es que eles detêm sobre o tema, sobre a legisla o a respeito e sobre os direitos da crian a. Este estudo teve como objetivo caracterizar as informa es de 20 educadoras de escolas municipais de educa o infantil sobre o abuso sexual de crian as em uma cidade de médio porte. As informa es obtidas foram analisadas e divididas em sete categorias. Os resultados indicam que a maioria das educadoras possuía informa es insuficientes acerca do tema e afirmava adotar procedimentos inadequados diante dos casos de crian as que sofreram abusos sexuais.

Abstract: the present study was aimed at investigating male batterers' family of origin's parental style, and its relationship with anxiety symptoms in such men, by comparing these variables with men without a history of domestic violence with similar age, socio-economic status, education and marital status. a sample of 20 batterers and 20 men without a violence history was utilized. the instruments in portuguese included: a batterer's family of origin semi-structured interview, the parental style inventory, and the beck anxiety inventory (bai). both groups did not differ statistically in regards to age, socio-economic status, education and marital status. however, the groups were statistically different in terms of the variables family of origin's parental style and anxiety. it is suggested that anxiety, combined with family of origin's inappropriate parenting, may contribute to intimate partner violence. future studies could further investigate this possibility using larger samples.

Abstract: this study characterized adolescents who attended programs for young offenders in a city located at s?o paulo state. a total of 123 protocols pertaining to the year 2002 were analyzed. cross-data analysis showed that not attending school was related to increasing numbers of criminal re-incidence, use of drugs and of weapons. in addition, participants with higher educational level lived with both parents, while low schooling adolescents lived with single-parent families. considering that school attendance reduced the severity of delinquent acts as well as the use of weapons and drugs, it is important to face the challenge of keeping these adolescents within the school system, instead of forcing them out.
Histórico de violência intrafamiliar em pacientes psiquiátricos

Abstract: the goal of this study was to characterize the family violence history among psychiatric patients in a mental health outpatient clinic. more specifically, identification of the modality of violence experienced by the patients was intended. twenty three psychiatric patients who attended the clinic took part of the study. the instrument used to collect data was a semi-structured interview, with questions related to patient’s mental health and family violence history, as well as childhood description, among other topics. only one out of 23 patients reported an absence of family violence history. twenty participants indicated a history of physical or emotional abuse during childhood. in their adult phase, of the 13 participants who reported having lived with an intimate partner, eight female participants reported aggressive behavior by partners, and two male participants reported perpetrating aggressive episodes to their wives, in the past. in terms of sexual violence, five participants reported having experienced forced intercourse by partners, and one male participant reported having sexually abused his wife. the results call attention to the high frequency and severity of family violence episodes. this phenomenon should be investigated using wider samples, and questions on family violence history should routinely be asked in the clinical practice, as its avoidance during treatment may contribute to poor prognosis.

Abstract: the present study aimed at studying the aggressive behaviors of male children in school and its relation to domestic violence. for such purpose, 28 male children and their mothers were evaluated, 14 of them showed aggression in schools (group a) and were compared to 14 children of the same sex and income who did not present aggression (group b). data were initially gathered by the teachers of three elementary schools of an inland city of s?o paulo state. afterwards, data were taken with the children's mothers in their respective homes. general results point to the occurrence of violence in both groups; however, the group of aggressive children had more incidents and more severity of violence. final considerations point to the need for further research in order to expand the knowledge of aggressive behavior and its relationship to domestic violence.

Abstract: as part of a study that characterized the school performance of victimized children, teachers and the school principals from where such children studied were invited to participate in this research. the objective of this participation was to identify educators' attitudes on domestic violence, and school performance of the victimized children. eighteen teachers participated in the study and 10 school principals. participants took part of a school interview, containing pertinent questions in regard to the study's objective. results indicated that educators have some notions on child abuse, and on how they should act with the victims. the number of cases of victimized children identified in the school was expressive. this identification was related to the educator's observation, as well as to spontaneous disclosures from victimized students. in spite of its limitations, the school still presents itself as a safe place for the victimized child, which could be interpreted as a protective environment.
Habilidades maternas de mulheres vítimas de violência doméstica: uma revis?o da literatura

Abstract: this study reviewed the national and the international literature of domestic violence regarding maternal skills from 2007 to 2010.the following data base were used: bireme, web of science, lilacs and medline. out of the 85 abstracts, 28 were related to the topic of this paper (all international) and they were divided into four categories: (1) prevalence, (2) intervention, (3) the relationship between domestic violence and maternal skills and (4) the impact of marital violence on children. analysis of the studies showed that an expressive number of children witnessed violent conflicts between their parents, and that they were directly or indirectly affected by these conflicts. in studies which sought to evaluate the relationship between domestic violence and maternal skills the results showed the negative impact of exposure to marital violence and the importance of a positive mother-child relationship for the reduction of behavior problems in children, an important variable when considering the intervention with this population. it is noteworthy that all data were collected by self-report measures, therefore it is suggested that future research uses other types of data collection as different sources of information or systematic observational studies.
