Abstract: the huge quantity of biological data arising from the omics disciplines and their benefit in plant breeding require of new theoretical and statistical approaches in order to get a satisfactory description of the genomes general principles. the total number of sequences in the genes of a. thaliana and o. sativa plant genomes and in m. musculus animal genome was obtained from the public data base of the genebank through algoritms designed in python programming language. the variables distribution use frequency and gene size, exons and intrones per chromosome and among genomes were analyzed. the results indicated that variable distribution show non lineal patterns of behavior in a power law form, which are statistically different among genomes but no among the chromosomes of the same genome. in the same manner the analysis gave evidences about the constant mean size of the exons sequences and the single genes per chromosome and among genomes. these findings suggest that, first, the genome is self-organized in the same way in the chromosomes independently of the size or the number of genes being contained; second, so the chromosomes as their constituent elements: genes, exones and intrones, have evolved all together. the study points out that the power laws have a buffer roll in the biological variation laws and provide dna sequences organization quantitative measurements which are defining the identity of the genome. the statistical regularity of these genetic measurements has potential applications in the predicted value increase of the actual models of genetic plant breeding.

Abstract: the begomoviruses (family geminiviridae) have recently emerged as a serious pathogens of agronomic and horticultural crops in subtropical and tropical regions of world. these viruses are transmitted by the whitefly (bemisia tabaci) that recently has got a significant increase in its populations and also has been associated with the appearance of geminivirus typical symptoms in tomato crops around colombia. tomato samples with typical begomovirus symptoms were collected in five different departments, comprising the mayor tomato growing areas of the country. begomovirus were detected by polymerase chain reaction (pcr) or dot blot hybridization in all tomato samples collected in whole tomato growing areas of the country. with exception for valle del cauca, this is the first report of tomato-infecting begomovirus in antioquia, santander, boyacá and cundinamarca departments. also this is the first report of tomato-infecting begomovirus crops located above 1500 masl in colombia.

Abstract: diseased caused by begomoviruses (family geminiviridae) constitute a serious constraint to tomato production in colombia. however characterization of these new viruses had not been carried out so far. here we report a large scale survey on the distribution and genetic diversity of tomato infecting geminiviruses which are affecting mayor growing area of this crop in the country. viruses were detected by pcr using universal primers for members of genus begomovirus. the rflp analysis of pcr-amplified fragments showed individual and mixed infections of several geminiviruses in many of the samples. pcr-amplified fragments were cloned and sequenced. based on sequence comparations and phylogenetic analysis, the colombian geminivirus isolates were new world bipartite geminiviruses showing close relationship with pymv and tovev. by means of bioinformatic analysis of cis-acting elements (iterons) involved in dna replication of rep gene of colombian geminivirus isolates was possible to postulate possible pseudorecombinación events that could occur between them but also confirm the occurrence of mixed infections.

Abstract: Detection, identification and geographical localization of tomato-infecting Begomovirus in Colombia Título corto: Begomovirus que afectan tomate en Colombia Resumen En la actualidad, los Begomovirus (Familia Geminiviridae) se han convertido en la mayor amenaza para los cultivos de interés agrícola ubicados en las zonas tropicales y templadas del planeta. Estos virus son transmitidos por la mosca blanca Bemisia tabaci, la cual en los últimos a os en Colombia ha tenido un aumento significativo en sus poblaciones y se ha asociado con la aparición de síntomas virales en cultivos de tomate. Muestras de tomate con síntomas virales típicos fueron recolectadas en las cinco principales zonas productoras de esta solanácea en el país. Los Begomovirus fueron detectados por medio de la técnica de hibridación de ácidos nucleicos tipo Dot blot así como por medio de la reacción en cadena de la polimerasa (PCR) en todas las muestras colectadas. Con la excepción de un reporte previo en el Valle del Cauca, este es el primer reporte de Begomovirus afectando cultivos de tomate en los departamentos de Antioquia, Santander, Boyacá y Cundinamarca. Asimismo, es la primera vez que se informa sobre Begomovirus que afectan cultivos de tomate localizados por encima de 1500 msnm en Colombia. Abstract: Título en ingles: Distribution and genetic diversity of tomato –infecting Begomovirus in Colombia Resumen: Las enfermedades causadas por los begomovirus, (Familia Geminiviridae) constituyen una serie limitante para la producción del tomate en Colombia. Sin embargo, la caracterización de estos virus no ha sido realizada al momento. Aquí presentamos los resultados de un muestreo a nivel nacional que buscaba conocer la distribución y diversidad genética de los geminivirus que están afectando el cultivo de tomate en Colombia. Los virus fueron detectados mediante PCR, empleando primer universales específicos para el género Begomovirus. Los fragmentos amplificados por PCR fueron sometidos a un análisis tipo RFLP cuyos resultados evidenciaron presencia de infecciones mixtas e individuales de geminivirus en la mayoría de las muestras recolectadas en campo. Los fragmentos amplificados por PCR fueron clonados y secuenciados. El análisis de secuencia y filogenético mostró que los aislados begomovirales colombianos eran gemininivirus bipartitas típicos del Hemisferio Occidental y que algunos eran variantes de PYMV y otros de ToTEV. Mediante el análisis de los elementos cis-regulatorios (iterones) presentes en el promotor del gen de la proteína asociada a replicación (Rep) de los begomovirus aislados es posible postular eventos de pseudorecombinación que podrían suceder entre ellos durante la ocurrencia de infecciones mixtas en tomate. Abstract: La masiva cantidad de datos biológicos provenientes de las disciplinas "ómicas" y su aprovechamiento en el mejoramiento genético vegetal requiere de nuevos abordajes teóricos y estadísticos que describan de forma satisfactoria principios generales en los genomas. El total de secuencias de los genes de los genomas vegetales de Arabidopsis thaliana y Oriza sativa y del genoma animal Mus musculus fueron extraídas y depuradas de la base de datos pública del Genebank mediante el dise o de algoritmos en lenguaje de programación Python. Se analizaron las distribuciones de las variables frecuencia de uso y tama o de los genes, exones e intrones por cromosoma y entre genomas. Los resultados se alaron que las variables presentan patrones de comportamiento no lineales en forma de ley de potencia que difieren estadísticamente entre los genomas pero no entre los cromosomas de un mismo genoma. Además, el análisis aportó evidencias respecto al tama o promedio constante de las secuencias de exones y de los genes simples por cromosoma y entre genomas. Los hallazgos sugieren: primero, que el genoma se auto-organiza de la misma manera en los cromosomas independientemente del tama o o número de genes que estos contengan, y, segundo, que tanto los cromosomas como sus elementos constituyentes: genes, exones e intrones han evolucionado conjuntamente. El estudio se ala que las leyes de potencia cumplen un papel amortiguador en las leyes de variación biológica y proporcionan medidas cuantitativas de la organización de las secuencias de ADN que definen la identidad de un genoma. La regularidad estadística de estas medidas genéticas tiene potenciales aplicaciones en el incremento del valor predictivo de los actuales modelos de mejoramiento genético vegetal.

Abstract: breeding strategies for resistance to fruit borer neoleucinodes elegantalis in tomato solanum lycopersicum k l. have relied on traditional methods through genetic introgression by backcrossing. however, this process is slow and expensive. the cdna-aflp molecular technique was used to identify genes involved on fruit borer resistance in tomato segregating populations, the evaluated materials of tomato were: unapal maravilla (susceptible to fruit borer) , s. habrochaites var. glabratum, acc. pi 134418 (resistant to fruit borer), and three interspecific backcross produced by crossbreeding between those two species. from these plant materials, total rna was extracted and cdna-aflp technique was implemented. from the preamplified cdna, different combinations of primers: +1+1, +3+3 and their derivates were evaluated. the combination that showed better amplified was +1+1 for a total of 37 polymorphic bands and 9 fragments type expressed sequence target was isolated, which could explain the resistance of tomato to fruit borer.

Abstract: Esta revisión pretende orientar al lector sobre los procedimientos empleados para el control del dolor crónico, preferentemente neuropático, por medio de la electricidad. Historia de la utilización de la electricidad con finalidad analgésica, con descripción de los usos primitivos en el siglo XVIII y su evolución. Estimulación eléctrica medular: Se describen los mecanismos de acción, la selección de los pacientes, las técnicas de implante, la forma de realización de los diferentes procedimientos y sus complicaciones y el manejo de las mismas. Estimulación cerebral: Se sigue el mismo esquema que en el apartado anterior, diferenciándose en dos apartados: la estimulación cerebral profunda y la estimulación de la corteza prefrontal. Abstract: Husk tomato production technology was developed utilizing plastic sheeting and drip irrigation based on the results of reference evapotranspiration and crop coefficients (Kc) proposed at different phenological stages. The objectives of this study were as follows: 1) to evaluate the effect of plastic sheeting on the yield of husk tomato fruit with drip irrigation based on crop evapotranspiration; 2) to validate the use of drip irrigation technology and plastic sheeting in husk tomato production using demonstration plots; and 3) to determine the profitability and economic viability of the product in the domestic market. The proposed Kc values were 0.25, 0.71 and 0.56 in the initial, intermediate and final stage of crop development, respectively. Irrigation rates ranged from 2.5 to 6 mm·day-1, which was equivalent to an irrigation time of 0.6 to 2.5 hr. Soil moisture tension was monitored with tensiometers at depths of 15 and 30 cm in a loamy eutricfluvisol. The use of plastic sheeting increased husk tomato yield by 56.2% and water productivity by 63.5% under drip irrigation conditions when basing irrigation levels on crop evapotranspiration. Soil matrix potential varied between depths of 15 and 30 cm based on irrigation or rainfall amounts and the use of plastic sheeting with values being higher when the plastic sheeting was used. The husk tomato fruit yield in validation plots was 46 and 54.6 t·ha-1 with water use efficiencies ranging from 16.1 to 19.1 kg·m-3. These results exceeded the national average of 14 t·ha-1 and water use efficiency of 2.54 kg·m-3. With this new technology, a cost benefit ratio of 3.6 is obtained, which represents an economically profitable margin for farmers in the region.
