Study of Decoherence of Elementary Gates Implemented in a Chain of Few Nuclear Spins Quantum Computer Model  [PDF]

Abstract: We study the phenomenon of decoherence during the operation of one qubit transformation, controlled-not (CNOT) and controlled-controlled-not (C2NOT) quantum gates in a quantum computer model formed by a linear chain of three nuclear spins system. We make this study with different type of environments, and we determine the associated decoherence time as a function of the dissipative parameter. We found that the dissipation parameter to get a well defined quantum gates (without significant decoherence) must be within the range of . We also study the behavior of the purity parameter for these gates and different environments and found linear or quadratic decays of this parameter depending on the type of environments.

Abstract:

We make a numerical study of decoherence on the teleportation algorithm implemented in a linear chain of three nuclear spins system. We study different types of environments, and we determine the associated decoherence time as a function of the dissipative parameter. We found that the dissipation parameter to get a well defined quantum gates (without significant decoherence) must be within the range of γ4×10-4 for not thermalized case, which was determined by using the purity parameter calculated at the end of the algorithm. For the thermalized case the decoherence is stablished for very small dissipation parameter, making almost not possible to implement this algorithm for not zero temperature.

Abstract: The Hamiltonian associated to the mass variable system is constructed from first principles through finding a constant of motion of the system. A comparison is made of the classical motion of a body with its mass position depending in the (x,v) space and (x,p) space which are defined by the constant of motion and the Hamiltonian, for a particular model of mass variation. As one could expected, these motion looks different on these spaces. The quantization of the harmonic oscillator with this mass variation is done, and a comparison is made by using the usual Hamiltonian approach with the proposed quantization of the constant of motion approach. This comparison is done at first order in perturbation theory, and one sees a difference between both approaches which can, in principle, be measured.

Abstract:

By removing a 12C atom from the tetrahedral configuration of the diamond, replacing it by a 13C atom, and repeating this in a linear direction, it is possible to have a linear chain of nuclear spins one half and to build a solid state quantum computer. One qubit rotation, controlled-not (CNOT) and controlled-controlled-not (CCNOT) quantum gates are obtained immediately from this configuration. CNOT and CCNOT quantum gates are used to determined the design parameters of this quantum computer.

Abstract: A method for designing real-time distributed controllers of discrete manufacturing systems is presented. The approach held is agent based; the controller strategy is distributed into several interacting agents that operate each one on a part of the manufacturing process; these agents may be distributed into several interconnected processors. The proposed method consists of a modelling methodology and software development framework that provides a generic agent architecture and communication facilities supporting the interaction among agents.
Preservation of Minority Languages in North America: French Immersion Programs in the Province of Alberta  [PDF]

Abstract: Canada, which was officially declared a bilingual nation after the proclamation of the Official Language Act (1969), counts with a low percentage of French speaking population who hardly reaches a quarter of the total population. We must add the fact that there is a very little fraction of the population who speaks French outside the province of Quebec. Social, cultural and ethnic realities which are present within the Canadian territories enable us to observe and investigate the diversity of identities and the different linguistic assimilation processes experienced by non Anglophone citizens. Facts seem to indicate that the francophone minority groups, living in areas of the country where the most spoken language is different from their mother tongue, struggle for the preservation of their cultural heritage at the same time that keep alive their Canadian identity. The possibility of contrasting the situation of the Francophones in Western Canada with the reality of other minority groups which represent a similar percentage with respect to the total population—such as the Germans and the Ukrainian origin citizens—constitutes a valuable resource in order to predict the evolution of the demographic patterns and the use of French as a heritage language within the Canadian territories. The present work reviews the diverse political, linguistic and demographic contexts that may support our idea that using an additional language—French and English in the case of most Francophones in Western Canada—represents an advantage from a cognitive, social and linguistic point of view. The high degree of acceptance of the francophone schools and the popularity of the French immersion programs set up by Albertan authorities are considered within this article in order to support this hypothesis.
Chemical and Geological Control on Surface Water within the Shade River Watershed in Southeastern Ohio  [PDF]

Abstract:

The under-sampled middle and western branches of Shade River Watershed (SRW) in SE Ohio were investigated as part of the Ohio University—U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) STAR grant. This project was for monitoring the quality of watersheds in Ohio and classifying them according to their physical, chemical, and biological conditions. Water samples, as well as field parameters, were taken at twenty-two sites for chemical analyses. The ions analyzed included Ca, Mg, Na, Fe, Mn, Al, NO3, SO4, HCO3, and total PO4, while the field parameters measured included pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), total dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity (EC), and alkalinity. To assess the water quality within the SRW, the analyzed ions and field parameters were compared to the USEPA criteria for the survival of aquatic life. Analytical results showed that the watershed is dominated by Ca-HCO3waters with DO, Fe, Mn, and PO4being the main causes of impairment within the streams. The relatively elevated concentrations of manganese and less extent iron may be associated with the local geology and the acidic nature of the soils. The high alkalinity and calcium concentrations are due to the limestone geology. The elevated phosphate concentration may be due to anthropogenic sources, fertilizers, or contributions from phosphorus-rich bedrock that differs geochemically from other areas.

Abstract: El presente documento de trabajo se basa en la tesis de grado, presentada en la Universidad Icesi de Cali, bajo el mismo título del presente artículo. El texto aborda la Política Integral Migratoria (PIM) de Colombia y sus implicaciones en el departamento del Valle del Cauca. El documento está dividido en cuatro temas principales. Primero, se presenta el marco teórico, enfocado, particularmente, en el concepto de migración internacional, el cual se analiza desde distintos puntos de vista y autores. Segundo, se retoman los últimos 30 a os de proceso histórico migratorio desde el departamento del Valle del Cauca al exterior. Tercero, se analiza el documento Conpes 3603, emitido por el Gobierno Nacional, en cabeza del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, y se escruta sobre la influencia de este en las políticas formuladas e implementadas en el departamento. Cuarto, se enumeran algunas de las organizaciones gubernamentales, y no gubernamentales, más relevantes con las cuales trabaja el gobierno del Valle del Cauca para lograr el desarrollo de la Política Integral Migratoria (PIM) en el departamento. Finalmente, el presente artículo pretende brindar algunas conclusiones, a modo de reflexión, sobre los retos que enfrenta la Política Integral Migratoria (PIM) en el departamento.
