Estimating restricted mean job tenures in semi-competing risk data compensating victims of discrimination
Qing Pan,Joseph L. Gastwirth
Statistics , 2013, DOI: 10.1214/13-AOAS637
Abstract: When plaintiffs prevail in a discrimination case, a major component of the calculation of economic loss is the length of time they would have been in the higher position had they been treated fairly during the period in which the employer practiced discrimination. This problem is complicated by the fact that one's eligibility for promotion is subject to termination by retirement and both the promotion and retirement processes may be affected by discriminatory practices. This semi-competing risk setup is decomposed into a retirement process and a promotion process among the employees. Predictions for the purpose of compensation are made by utilizing the expected promotion and retirement probabilities of similarly qualified members of the nondiscriminated group. The restricted mean durations of three periods are estimated - the time an employee would be at the lower position, at the higher level and in retirement. The asymptotic properties of the estimators are presented and examined through simulation studies. The proposed restricted mean job duration estimators are shown to be robust in the presence of an independent frailty term. Data from the reverse discrimination case, Alexander v. Milwaukee, where White-male lieutenants were discriminated in promotion to captain are reanalyzed. While the appellate court upheld liability, it reversed the original damage calculations, which heavily depended on the time a plaintiff would have been in each position. The results obtained by the proposed method are compared to those made at the first trial. Substantial differences in both directions are observed.

Abstract: Primary non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma of the bone (PLB) is extremely rare in the pediatric population with less than 100 cases reported in the English literature. Most commonly, patients present with atraumatic bone pain and grossly normal radiographic findings. PLB is in the histopathological class of “small round cell tumors of bone”, as with most common bone tumors. The diagnosis is confirmed by immunohistochemical or flow cytometry based detection of tumor-specific proteins. We present a case of stage IV PLB of B-lymphoblastic type with an excellent response to chemotherapy to increase awareness among general pediatricians and pathologists about the importance of making the correct diagnosis, given the excellent prognosis for this disease.

Abstract: Sports foundations aiming at promoting sports activities partly outline the nonprofit area with specific concern. This study attempts to know the functions, general interests of professional soccer foundations in Spain, to describe their main characteristics and to ascertain if there are significant differences among them, according to their descriptive features. A document survey and analysis was carried out, with an assistance of own establishment of documental database. The findings not only indicate a significant difference between the classification of Spanish soccer foundations and their antiquities, but also manifest the tendency of the existence of physical person in members of founders with regard to its antiquity. The results of the present work implied that there were great dissimilarities of the elaboration of regulations depending on different regions in Spain.

Mathematics , 2005,
Abstract: The action of $PGL(2,2^m)$ on the set of exterior lines to a nonsingular conic in $PG(2,2^m)$ affords an association scheme, which was shown to be pseudocyclic in Hollmann's thesis in 1982. It was further conjectured in Hollmann's thesis that the orbital scheme of $P\Gamma L(2,2^m)$ on the set of exterior lines to a nonsingular conic in $PG(2,2^m)$ is also pseudocyclic if $m$ is an odd prime. We confirm this conjecture in this paper. As a by-product, we obtain a class of Latin square type strongly regular graphs on nonprime-power number of points.
Association schemes from the action of $PGL(2,q)$ fixing a nonsingular conic in PG(2,q)
Henk D. L. Hollmann,Qing Xiang
Mathematics , 2005,
Abstract: The group $PGL(2,q)$ has an embedding into $PGL(3,q)$ such that it acts as the group fixing a nonsingular conic in $PG(2,q)$. This action affords a coherent configuration $R(q)$ on the set $L(q)$ of non-tangent lines of the conic. We show that the relations can be described by using the cross-ratio. Our results imply that the restrictions $R_{+}(q)$ and $R_{-}(q)$ to the sets $L_{+}(q)$ of secant lines and to the set $L_{-}(q)$ of exterior lines, respectively, are both association schemes; moreover, we show that the elliptic scheme $R_{-}(q)$ is pseudocyclic. We further show that the coherent configuration $R(q^2)$ with $q$ even allow certain fusions. These provide a 4-class fusion of the hyperbolic scheme $R_{+}(q^2)$, and 3-class fusions and 2-class fusions (strongly regular graphs) of both schemes $R_{+}(q^2)$ and $R_{-}(q^2). The fusion results for the hyperbolic case are known, but our approach here as well as our results in the elliptic case are new.
Bundling and Consumers’ Reservation Value: Effects on Market Entry  [PDF]
Qing Hu
Technology and Investment (TI) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ti.2015.61008
Abstract: We consider a multiproduct incumbent which monopolizes one market but faces a potential entrant in another market. In a two dimensional Hotelling model, when consumers’ reservation value is relatively high, we show that the incumbent has an incentive to use bundling to deter entry only if a prior commitment is applicable. However, when consumers’ reservation value is low, the multiproduct firm even has no incentive to use bundling and bundling has no effect on entry deterrence.

Psychology (PSYCH) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2017.814150
Abstract: This study aims to study the relationship between college students’ critical behavior and the coping style in China. 1135 college students from 10 universities in Guangdong were asked to answer the questionnaire on the behaving style in emergency situations and Coping Style questionnaire. The results show that: 1) In the view of gender, admission category, urban and rural sources, whether the only child, and family income point, there were significant differences in the behaviors in emergency situations. 2) The capacities in emergency situations and the coping style are significantly correlative. Meanwhile, the coping styles of self-blame, problem solving, fantasy, rationalization are the distinct predictors for the capacities in emergency situations.
The Performance of China Stock Market, Based on the Analysis of Implicit Transaction Cost  [PDF]
Qing Zhang
American Journal of Industrial and Business Management (AJIBM) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ajibm.2018.84072
Abstract: This paper is based on the stocks listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges for full year in the early period of 1992 to the end of 2016, using Hasbrouck sampling method to estimate the implicit transaction cost of Chinese order-driven market, and observing the performance of stock market and affecting factors based on the implicit transaction costs. Empirical results show: the implicit transaction cost is an unavoidable cost for investors, and the performance of China stock market is not ideal. Finally, it is suggested that China stock market should improve the trading system, strengthen the information disclosure system and optimize the equity system of listed companies.
