Phase separation in disordered exclusion models
Krug, Joachim;
Brazilian Journal of Physics , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-97332000000100009
Abstract: the effect of quenched disorder in the one-dimensional asymmetric exclusion process is reviewed. both particlewise and sitewise disorder generically induce phase separation in a range of densities. in the particlewise case the existence of stationary product measures in the homogeneous phase implies that the critical density can be computed exactly, while for sitewise disorder only bounds are available. the coarsening of phase-separated domains starting from a homogeneous initial condition is addressed using scaling arguments and extremal statistics considerations. some of these results have been obtained previously in the context of directed polymers subject to columnar disorder.

Datenbank zur Frauenbewegung in Ost und West Inventory of the New Women’s Movement in West Germany and the GDR
Marina Krug
querelles-net , 2001,
The inventory of the New Women’s Movement in West Germany and the GDR documents and reflects the diversity of the Women’s Movement in the two German states. In this database one can easily find relevant information about specific places and events, and actors, as well as obtain information about book titles, recording sources, illustrations, annotations, format, year and signature period. An easy-to-use help function offers information about usage and technical requirements of the database. One can also take a first look at the content of the entire inventory by browsing the content menu. This menu allows one to go back and forth between different documents (including photos, posters, buttons, and sound documents) or files. The iventory’s search function is extremely user-friendly, as it continually updates the results of any given search.

Introduction to Step Dynamics and Step Instabilities
Joachim Krug
Physics , 2004,
Abstract: This paper provides an elementary introduction to the basic concepts used in describing epitaxial crystal growth in terms of the thermodynamics and kinetics of atomic steps. Selected applications to morphological instabilities of stepped surfaces are reviewed, and some open problems are outlined.
Lonely adatoms in space
Joachim Krug
Physics , 2003, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevE.67.065102
Abstract: There is a close relation between the problems of second layer nucleation in epitaxial crystal growth and chemical surface reactions, such as hydrogen recombination, on interstellar dust grains. In both cases standard rate equation analysis has been found to fail because the process takes place in a confined geometry. Using scaling arguments developed in the context of second layer nucleation, I present a simple derivation of the hydrogen recombination rate for small and large grains. I clarify the reasons for the failure of rate equations for small grains, and point out a logarithmic correction to the reaction rate when the reaction is limited by the desorption of hydrogen atoms (the second order reaction regime).
Power laws in surface physics: The deep, the shallow and the useful
Joachim Krug
Physics , 2004, DOI: 10.1016/j.physa.2004.05.027
Abstract: The growth and dynamics of solid surfaces displays a multitude of power law relationships, which are often associated with geometric self-similarity. In many cases the mechanisms behind these power laws are comparatively trivial, and require little more than dimensional analysis for their derivation. The information of interest to surface physicists then resides in the prefactors. This point will be illustrated by recent experimental and theoretical work on the growth-induced roughening of thin films and step fluctuations on vicinal surfaces. The conventional distinction between trivial and nontrivial power laws will be critically examined in general, and specifically in the context of persistence of step fluctuations.

Joachim Krug
Physics , 2008, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.102.139601
Abstract: This is the revised version of a Comment on a paper by C. Escudero (Phys. Rev. Lett. 100, 116101, 2008; arXiv:0804.1898).
Nonlinear dynamics of surface steps
Joachim Krug
Physics , 2008,
Abstract: This is a review of recent theoretical work on complex dynamical behavior of steps on crystal surfaces. The first part of the article is devoted to the electromigration-driven motion of islands and voids, and the second part addresses step bunching on vicinal surfaces.
Four Lectures on the Physics of Crystal Growth
Joachim Krug
Physics , 2002, DOI: 10.1016/S0378-4371(02)01034-8
Abstract: Several aspects of the theory of epitaxial crystal growth from atomic or molecular beams are developed from the perspective of statistical physics. Lectures are devoted to the rate equation theory of two-dimensional nucleation and its limitations; the growth of multilayer wedding cakes in the presence of strong step edge barriers; the continuum theory of mound coarsening; and growth-induced step meandering on vicinal surfaces.
