VISCO-ELASTIC MHD CONVECTIVE PERIODIC FLOW THROUGH POROUS MEDIUM IN A ROTATING VERTICAL CHANNEL WITH THERMAL RADIATION

Abstract: : An analytical study of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convection flow of a viscoelastic, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid through a porous medium filled in a vertical channel is carried out. A magnetic field of uniform strength is applied perpendicular to the planes of the channel walls. The fluid is acted upon by periodic time variation of the pressure gradient in the vertically upward direction. The temperature of one of the plates is non-uniform and the temperature difference of the walls of the channel is high enough to induce heat transfer due to radiation. The fluid and the channel rotate in unison with an angular velocity about the axis normal to the plates of the channel. An exact analytical solution of the problem is obtained. Two cases of small and large rotations have been considered to assess the effects of different parameters involved in the flow problem. The velocity field, the amplitude and the phase angle of the skin friction are shown graphically and discussed in detail.
Formation of X-120 M Line Pipe through J-C-O-E Technique  [PDF]

Abstract: The line pipe forming operation can be divided into two parts, first is to achieve the required shape in terms of curvature and ovality after formation of the line pipe. The curvature and ovality ultimately effects the final dimensional controls at the later stage i.e. after mechanical expansion of the line pipe. The second part is to make right welding joint geometry to make the final long seam weld of line pipe. The welding joint geometry ultimately controls soundness of final seam weld at later stage i.e. during submerged arc welding of the line pipe. As far as curvature or shape of line pipe is concerned, important operation is making the required curvature along the edges of TMCP and ACC (Thermo mechanical controlled processing and accelerated cooling process) plate for line pipe (Plate Edge Crimping press) up to the 150 mm in width minimum and forming of the line pipe at J-C-O press. The selection of dies with proper hardness and curvature in both the operation plays a vital role in the formation of line pipes. The main parameters of selection dies (Tools) are size of line pipe for which dies/tools are to be made i.e. the diameter of line pipe, thickness of line pipe and most important is grade of line pipe (Strength level). The grade or strength level decides amount of spring back behavior of the steel Plate. The spring back behavior again varies from steel mill to steel mill in the same grade of HR plate. This is because the each steel mill has its own manufacturing procedures to produce the TMCP and ACC plate. The plate for line pipe is produced through TMCP (Thermo mechanical controlled processing) and accelerated cooling process. In this process the strength level is achieved by the chemical composition of the slab, thickness of the slab, reheating temperature, roughing temperature at which reduction in the thickness, finish rolling temperature and finally the accelerated cooling temperature rate.
Macrocyclic complexes: synthesis and characterization

Abstract: A novel series of complexes of the type [M(C28H24N4)X]X2, where M = Cr(III), Fe(III) or Mn(III), X = Cl , NO3 , CH3COO and (C28H24N4) corresponds to the tetradentate macrocyclic ligand, were synthesized in methanolic media by the template condensation of 1,8-diaminonaphthalene and 2,3-butanedione (diacetyl) in the presence of trivalent metal salts. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, conductance and magnetic measurements, and UV/Vis and IR spectroscopy. Based on these studies, a five-coordinate square pyramidal geometry for all the prepared complexes is proposed. All the synthesized macrocyclic complexes were tested for their in vitro antifungal activity against some fungal strains viz. Aspergillus niger and A. fumigatus. The results obtained were compared with the standard antifungal drug fluconazole.
Load Frequency Control of Interconnected Hydro-Thermal System with Conventional Controllers and Expert Controllers

Abstract: Load-frequency control (LFC) is a part of the Automatic Generation Control (AGC) in power systems, the aim of which is to maintain the system frequency and tie line flow at their scheduled values during normal period in an interconnected system. This research paper is devoted to explore the interconnection of the load frequency control of hydro power system and the thermal system. The thermal system is comprised with governor dead band, generation rate constraint and boiler dynamics where as the hydro system is comprised with generation rate constraint. The conventional PID controller does not have adequate control performance with the consideration of nonlinearities and boiler dynamics. To overcome this drawback, Genetic Algorithm helps in solving optimization problems by exploitation of random search. The aim of the proposed expert controller is to restore the frequency to its nominal value in the smallest possible time whenever there is any change in the load demand etc.
ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES OF RICINUS COMMUNIS AGAINST SOME HUMAN PATHOGENS

Abstract: The present paper deals with the antimicrobial activities of seed extracts of Ricinus communis against some human pathogenic bacteria namely Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and two fungal strains namely Candida albicans and Candida glabrata. The aqueous and methanol extracts of seeds were screened for their antibacterial activity using agar disc diffusion method. The aqueous seed extracts were less active but methanol extracts showed high degree zone of inhibition against the tested pathogens.
DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF MULTIDIELECTRIC LAYER MICROSTRIP ANTENNA WITH VARYING SUPERSTRATE LAYER CHARACTERISTICS

Abstract: The multidielectric layer microstrip antenna structure involves addition of a superstrate layer over the substrate. It is important that the superstrate layer must act as a part of the antenna. Design of the multidielectric layer microstrip patch antenna based on different thickness and permittivity of the superstrate layer has significant effect in gain and antenna efficiency. The designer must however ensure that the superstrate layer does not adversely affect the performance of the antenna. With proper choice of the thickness of substrate and superstrate layer, significant increase in gain can be achieved for practical applications. This paper discusses a set of closed form expressions for the resonant frequency for the general case of multidielectric layers. Multidielectric layer microstrip antenna designed for applications where various physical properties of antenna viz. permittivity, patch dimensions, height of the substrate and superstrate layer parameters which significantly affect accuracy of the resonant frequency is analyzed. Considering the effect of superstrate layer, a method for accurately determining the resonant frequency of such structures have been obtained using variation of the patch dimension. The antenna performances have been evaluated for variety of cases of permittivity and thickness of the superstrate layer.
Neural Network Model Based Cluster Head Selection for Power Control

Abstract: Mobile ad-hoc network has challenge of the limited power to prolong the lifetime of the network, because power is a valuable resource in mobile ad-hoc network. The status of power consumption should be continuously monitored after network deployment. In this paper, we propose coverage aware neural network based power control routing with the objective of maximizing the network lifetime. Cluster head selection is proposed using adaptive learning in neural networks followed by coverage. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can be used in wide area of applications in mobile ad-hoc network.
Reconstruction in extensive axillary Hidradenitis suppurativa with local fasciocutaneous V-Y advancement flaps

Abstract: We present our experience with the use of local fasciocutaneous V-Y advancement flaps in the reconstruction of 10 axillae in 6 patients for large defects following wide excision of long-standing Hidradenitis suppurativa of the axilla. The defects were closed with local V-Y subcutaneous island flaps. A single flap from the chest wall was sufficient for moderate defects. However, for larger defects, an additional flap was taken from the medial side of the ipsilateral arm. The donor defects could be closed primarily in all the patients. The local areas of the lateral chest wall and the medial side of the arm have a plentiful supply of cutaneous perforators and the flaps can be designed in a V-Y fashion without resorting to preoperative marking of the perforator. The flaps were freed sufficiently to allow adequate movement for closure of the defects. Although no attempt was made to identify the perforators specifically, many perforators were seen entering the flap. Some perforators can be safely divided to increase reach of the flap. All the flaps survived completely. A follow up of 2.5 years is presented.
Image Processing based Heuristic Analysis for Enhanced Currency Recognition

Abstract: A successful approach for currency recognition depends upon feature extraction of that currency image. This paper represents the heuristic analysis of characters and digits of serial number of Indian currency notes to recognition of currency notes. To recognize a character from a given currency image, there is a need to extract feature descriptors of such image. As an extraction method significantly affects the quality of whole OCR process, it is very important to extract features, which will be invariant towards the various light conditions, used font type and deformations of characters caused by a skew of the image. Heuristic analysis of characters is done for this purpose to get the accurate features of characters before feature extraction in currency recognition.
Template synthesis and characterization of biologically active transition metal complexes comprising 14-membered tetraazamacrocyclic ligand

Abstract: A novel series of complexes of the type [M(C28H24N4)X2], whereM = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II), X = Cl–, NO3–, CH3COO– and (C28H24N4) corresponds to the tetradentate macrocyclic ligand, were synthe sized by template condensation of 1,8-diaminonaphthalene and diacetyl in the presence of divalent metal salts in methanolic medium. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, conductance and magnetic measurements, as well as by UV/Vis, NMR, IR and MS spectroscopy. The low values of the molar conductance indicate non-electrolyte type of complexes. Based on these spectral data, a distorted octahedral geometry may be proposed for all of these complexes. All the synthesized macrocyclic complexes were tested for in vitro antibacterial activity against some pathogenic bacterial strains, viz Bacillus cereus, Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The MIC values shown by the complexes against these bacterial strains were compared with the MIC shown by the standard antibiotics linezolid and cefaclor.
