Interpretation of computed tomography imaging of the eye and orbit. A systematic approach
Naik Milind,Tourani Kishore,Sekhar Chandra,Honavar Santosh
Indian Journal of Ophthalmology , 2002,
Abstract: Computed tomography (CT) has revolutionised the diagnosis and management of ocular and orbital diseases. The use of thin sections with multiplanar scanning (axial, coronal and sagittal planes) and the possibility of three-dimensional reconstruction permits thorough evaluation. To make the most of this technique, users must familiarize themselves with the pertinent CT principles and terminology. The diagnostic yield is optimal when the ophthalmologist and radiologist collaborate in the radiodiagnostic workup. In this article we describe a systematic approach to the interpretation of ocular and orbital CT scans.

Journal of Medical and Allied Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: Disc cysts are uncommon intraspinal cystic lesions located in the ventrolateral epidural space. They communicate with the nucleus pulposus of the intervertebral disc and cause symptoms by radicular compression. We report a unique case of lumbar disc cyst that was associated with disc herniation and contralateral radiculopathy. A 22 year old male presented with one month history of back-ache radiating to the left leg. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) showed L3-L4 disc herniation with annular tear and cystic lesion in the extradural space anterior to the thecal sac on right side, which increased in size over a period of 3 weeks. L3 laminectomy and bilateral discectomy and cyst excision was done with partial improvement of patients symptoms.
Using Exclusive Web Crawlers to Store Better Results in Search Engines' Database
Ali Tourani,Amir Seyed Danesh
Computer Science , 2013,
Abstract: Crawler-based search engines are the mostly used search engines among web and Internet users, involve web crawling, storing in database, ranking, indexing and displaying to the user. But it is noteworthy that because of increasing changes in web sites search engines suffer high time and transfers costs which are consumed to investigate the existence of each page in database while crawling, updating database and even investigating its existence in any crawling operations. "Exclusive Web Crawler" proposes guidelines for crawling features, links, media and other elements and to store crawling results in a certain table in its database on the web. With doing this, search engines store each site's tables in their databases and implement their ranking results on them. Thus, accuracy of data in every table (and its being up-to-date) is ensured and no 404 result is shown in search results since, in fact, this data crawler crawls data entered by webmaster and the database stores whatever he wants to display.
Rectal Duplication Cyst in a 12 year old Female Presenting with Chronic Constipation and Rectal Bleeding: A Case Report  [PDF]
Kimberly Harris, Kishore Vellody
International Journal of Clinical Medicine (IJCM) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ijcm.2011.21002
Abstract: Constipation is a common presenting complaint in children. Rectal duplication cysts are rare congenital malformations that need to be considered in patients with chronic constipation that has not responded to typical therapy and in pa-tients presenting with rectal bleeding. It is important to maintain a high index of suspicion when diagnosing this condi-tion as other congenital malformations may be present and rectal duplication cysts have the potential for malignant transformation if they go unrecognized. This case report describes a 12 year old female with chronic constipation and rectal bleeding who was found to have a rectal duplication cyst. It discusses the pathophysiology of the disease and highlights the options available for treatment.
Evaluation of antiviral effects of various disinfectants on dental handpieces

Journal of Dental Medicine , 2007,
Abstract: Background and Aim: Handpieces are in current use in dental practice. Cross contamination from these instruments is very high because of their direct contact with blood and saliva. The purpose of this study was the evaluation of antiviral effects of different disinfectants on dental handpieces. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, the effects of 5 groups of different materials and methods of sterilization and disinfection on virus elimination from dental handpieces were evaluated. Groups were as follows: 1- autoclave 2- Solarsept 3- Unisepta 4- Sodium hypochlorite (2% solution of household bleach) 5- Sanosil. 14 handpieces in each group were washed, dried and autoclaved, then contaminated with polio and Herpes Simplex virus type I. Samples were washed with sterile distilled water. Antiviral agents were applied according to the manufacturer or previous investigations. After washing with water, the instruments were washed with MEM (Minimum Essential Medium) and two samples of cell culture from each handpiece were prepared. In each group one handpiece was treated as control. The results were recorded after one week. Results: The percent of negative cell cultures in each group were as follow: A- For Poliovirus: 1- Autoclave: 100%. 2- Solarsept: 28.6%. 3- Unisepta: 0%. 4- Sodium hypochlorite: 28.6%. 5- Sanosil 92.9%. B- For Herpesvirus: 1- Autoclave: 100%. 2- Solarsept: 100%. 3- Unisepta: 100%. 4- Sodium hypochlorite: 57.1%. 5- Sanosil: 100%. Conclusion: According to our findings autoclave is the best method for virus elimination from dental handpieces. Sanosil with 92.9% efficiency was the best solution. Solarsept, hypochlorite with special method and Unisepta had the lowest effectiveness.

Does Board Independence Matter? Evidence from New Zealand
Hardjo Koerniadi,Alireza Tourani-Rad
Australasian Accounting Business and Finance Journal , 2012,
Abstract: This paper examines the effects of the presence of independent directors on firm value using both market-based performance measures (Tobin’s Q ratio and EVA) and accounting-based ratios (ROA and ROE). We find that, instead of adding value, independent directors in NewZealand negatively affect firm value. We also find that, consistent with stewardship theory, independent directors have a positive effect on firm value only when they are in the minority. These findings are important given the increasing trend toward independence in corporate boards around the globe and suggest that board independence may not generally be suitable for countries where managers are considered as active partners along with other stakeholders in companies.
Defense Mechanism of Renal Functions and Calcium Mixed Mineral Formation in Agar-Agar Gel Medium at Laboratory Environment  [PDF]
J. Kishore Kumar, P. Sundaramoorthi
Journal of Minerals and Materials Characterization and Engineering (JMMCE) , 2009, DOI: 10.4236/jmmce.2009.88057
Abstract: Calcium phosphates and oxalates are the most frequently observed bio-mineral phases. Many kinetics studies have been carried out on their crystal formation and dissolution in supersaturated and under saturated solutions, respectively. Major parameters include supernatant solution concentration, ionic strength, pH, temperature and solid surface behaviors. The growth of the calcium phosphate phases such as di-calcium phosphate di-hydrate (DCPD), octa-calcium phosphate (OCP), hydroxyapatite (HAP), and fluorapatite (FAP) crystals are observed. The ability of a surface to nucleate mineral phases is closely related to the magnitude of the interfacial energies. CaSeHPO4 crystals are grown in laboratory growth environments by the author in agar gel medium. Many characterization studies are done using grown crystals, such as FTIR, TGA/DTA, etching, SEM and XRD of the grown crystals are carried out and the results are reported.

Psychology (PSYCH) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2015.610127
Abstract: The Ebola virus poses two inter-linked threats—the disease itself and fear of the disease. In Liberia, where over 4500 people have died from Ebola, a UN peacekeeping mission is currently operational (UNMIL). The study was conducted among 240 UN peace keepers of 9 different countries working in Liberia. The study period was from July 2014 to December 2014. The level of anxiety of the subjects were assessed in Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Reactions towards Ebola were mixed. There was a degree of fear but the level of anxiety was not so predominant. The reasons for panic were—no known cure, a perceived fear of discrimination and stigmatization, a fear that upon death one’s body will not be taken back home, there may not be proper burial or even cremation, contrary to custom. Among the study population, 55% think of themselves as being at greater risk than their colleagues, 19% wants to leave the UN mission area. The mean level of Anxiety was 10.87 ± 6.93 in HAD scale where as mean level of Depression was 3.98 ± 4.14. Psychological support is a key priority in the response to this relatively unknown and poorly understood yet lethal disease.
