Abstract: Tuning of the olfactory system of male moths to conspecific female sex pheromones is crucial for correct species recognition; however, little is known about the genetic changes that drive speciation in this system. Moths of the genus Ostrinia are good models to elucidate this question, since significant differences in pheromone blends are observed within and among species. Odorant receptors (ORs) play a critical role in recognition of female sex pheromones; eight types of OR genes expressed in male antennae were previously reported in Ostrinia moths.
Isolation of BAC Clones Containing Conserved Genes from Libraries of Three Distantly Related Moths: A Useful Resource for Comparative Genomics of Lepidoptera

Abstract: Lepidoptera, butterflies and moths, is the second largest animal order and includes numerous agricultural pests. To facilitate comparative genomics in Lepidoptera, we isolated BAC clones containing conserved and putative single-copy genes from libraries of three pests, Heliothis virescens, Ostrinia nubilalis, and Plutella xylostella, harboring the haploid chromosome number, =31, which are not closely related with each other or with the silkworm, Bombyx mori, (=28), the sequenced model lepidopteran. A total of 108–184 clones representing 101–182 conserved genes were isolated for each species. For 79 genes, clones were isolated from more than two species, which will be useful as common markers for analysis using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), as well as for comparison of genome sequence among multiple species. The PCR-based clone isolation method presented here is applicable to species which lack a sequenced genome but have a significant collection of cDNA or EST sequences.

Abstract: Genome sequencing projects have been completed for several species representing four highly diverged holometabolous insect orders, Diptera, Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, and Lepidoptera. The striking evolutionary diversity of insects argues a need for efficient methods to apply genome information from such models to genetically uncharacterized species. Constructing conserved synteny maps plays a crucial role in this task. Here, we demonstrate the use of fluorescence in situ hybridization with bacterial artificial chromosome probes as a powerful tool for physical mapping of genes and comparative genome analysis in Lepidoptera, which have numerous and morphologically uniform holokinetic chromosomes.

Abstract: An 29% increased on fuel price on March 1st, 2005 has several implications on Indonesian economy. It includes micro and macroeconomics performance of Indonesian economy. Using Recursive Dynamic Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) Model, namely “Poverty Indonesian Model”, the simulations show that an increase of fuel price tends to reduced household and industry demand for fuel (oil refinery). Reducing demand also happen although an increase of fuel price following which the compensation fund on health and education sectors. Furthermore, wage of unskilled labor also decline. The purchasing power and welfare of households will be reduced because the households also face the increasing prices of commodities. From Macroeconomic side, an increased of fuel price decline has no significant impact on GDP and decline a household consumption and land rent. The inflation rate will around 3% after and before compensation program.
KOMPONEN BIOAKTIF PROTEIN DAN LEMAK DALAM SUSU KUDA LIAR

Abstract: Since 1998, milk a wild horse has been sold in the public and become very popular as people belived it has some benefits to cure various diseases. As a result of this, the price of milk a wild horse become very expensive. Hence the this study was to identified the nutrient and protein bioactive component of milk a wild horse. Analyses were performed on two types of milk horse wild , pure milk wild horse derived from Sumbawa and ready to drink milk wild horse which is in container and distributed in Bogor.This research was analysing of protein, fats, protein bioactive, fatty acid and amino acid content. The results of this study shows that pure milk wild horse has higher nutrient content compared to packaging / manufactured milk wild horse.Howewer, both pure and manufactured milk wild horse content of bioactive component with has low molecular weight proteins between 14400 kD - 21500 kD. This sugests the presence of antitrypsin and lysozyme compound. Horse milk also contains the results of this study 11 types of amino acids (essential and non essential) and 12 kinds of fatty acids (saturated and unsaturated). Abstrak Sejak tahun 1998 susu kuda liar banyak dijual di masyarakat dan menjadi sangat populer penggunaannya, yang diasumsikan sebagai obat karena dianggap mempunyai kasiat yang dapat menyembuhkan berbagai macam penyakit. Oleh karena itu timbul pemikiran untuk melakukan penelitian komponen bioaktif protein dan lemak dalam susu kuda liar.Maksud penelitian ini, untuk mendapatkan data komposisi gizi dan komponen bioaktif protein dan lemak dalam susu kuda liar. Analisis dilakukan terhadap dua jenis susu kuda yaitu susu kuda murni asli sumbawa dan susu kuda yang beredar di Bogor dalam bentuk kemasan siap dikonsumsi. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan analisis kadar protein, lemak, bioaktif protein, kadar asam lemak dan kadar asam amino.Hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa susu kuda liar murni kandungan gizinya lebih tinggi dibanding dengan susu kuda dalam kemasan. Sementara pada susu kuda murni maupun susu kuda dalam kemasan mengandung komponen bioaktif protein dengan berat molekul rendah antara 14.400 kD – 21.500 kD, hal ini menunjukkan adanya senyawa lisozim dan senyawa antitripsin. Susu kuda hasil penelitian ini juga mengandung 11 jenis asam amino (esensial dan non esensial) dan 12 jenis asam lemak (jenuh dan tak jenuh). Abstract: Although pentachlorophenol (PCP) has been widely employed as a biocide for over 60 years, its production and use are currently severely curtailed in many countries due to its extreme toxicity. In recent years, the contamination of both soil and surface waters by PCP has become a concern. In this study the permeation characteristics of PCP penetrating silicone rubber membranes (SRM) were studied, in order to determine the feasibility of separation of PCP from water via the permeation and chemical desorption (PCD) method. It was found that efficient separation and recovery of PCP could be obtained using an acidic feed solution and an alkaline recovery solution. The permeation rate of PCP into the SRM was optimized when the feed solution was maintained at a pH of 4 or lower. The SRM thickness did not significantly affect the permeation rate, indicating that the rate determining step for the process is the initial movement of the PCP into the SRM. The activation energy for the penetration process was determined to be quite high, and thus thermal controls will play an important role in the recovery of PCP by this method. The membrane distribution coefficient (mc) for PCP moving into SRM was large and showed a strong correlation to permeation rates reported previously, confirming that PCD is a suitable technique for the separation and recovery of PCP from aqueous solution.

Abstract: In the article, from the teaching position assumed by the author, it is explained the general and particular features of the components of teaching-learning process involved in the design of the task as a didactic unit, in the Virtual Learning Environment (EVA), of the University of Information Sciences. A university in which the conditions of technology and professional profile of training are different from the context where the original investigation was developed, the Agrarian University of Havana and Municipal Offices. The article makes reference to the technological development as a variable that can modify the access to information for teachers and students, the way that communication is established between teacher and student and student with other subjects in the study group and with the society in general. This development doesn’t affect the conception of the task as a didactic unit.
Toxoplasmosis Prevalence in Sheep in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta

Abstract: A research on toxoplasmosis prevalence in sheep was conducted in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. The objective of the research was to understand the prevalence level of toxoplasmosis in sheep using skin test method by taking the membrane protein of tachyzoit produced in vivo. The research was initiated by producing the tachyzoit membrane protein at the testing animals, later the obtained protein was prepared and used in the skin test method. At the end of the research agglutination test was conducted to confirm the diagnosis using card agglutination test. An optimal dosage of tachyzoit membrane protein used in sheep as the basic material of the skin test was 1.5 mg/ml/head. Result showed the reaction of skin was thickening and the duration after being injected intradermally varied from 12 to 30 minutes in various sizes from 8 to 19 millimetres. The skin test method showed that the prevalence level of toxoplasmosis in Yogyakarta was more than 70%.Key Words: toxoplasmosis, prevalence, skin test
Depolarizing Actions of Hydrogen Sulfide on Hypothalamic Paraventricular Nucleus Neurons

Abstract: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a novel neurotransmitter that has been shown to influence cardiovascular functions as well and corticotrophin hormone (CRH) secretion. Since the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (PVN) is a central relay center for autonomic and endocrine functions, we sought to investigate the effects of H2S on the neuronal population of the PVN. Whole cell current clamp recordings were acquired from the PVN neurons and sodium hydrosulfide hydrate (NaHS) was bath applied at various concentrations (0.1, 1, 10, and 50 mM). NaHS (1, 10, and 50 mM) elicited a concentration-response relationship from the majority of recorded neurons, with almost exclusively depolarizing effects following administration. Cells responded and recovered from NaHS administration quickly and the effects were repeatable. Input differences from baseline and during the NaHS-induced depolarization uncovered a biphasic response, implicating both a potassium and non-selective cation conductance. The results from the neuronal population of the PVN shed light on the possible physiological role that H2S has in autonomic and endocrine function.
