Abstract: this study had as its main objective to assess the variation in body weight of patients on peritoneal dialysis (dp) during the first year of treatment and as a secondary goal to identify patients with criteria for metabolic syndrome (sm). observational study conducted with 35 patients of a university hospital. data were collected on the clinical and demographic status, change of body weight and criteria for sm from the sample. after 12 months of initiation of dialysis, approximately 40% of patients showed overweight and/or obesity. the average variation of body weight after one year was 3.7 kg, and the largest variation was found in the first three months, with values of 2.2 kg. the prevalence of sm was 30%. it was concluded that the most important change of body weight happened in the first year of treatment and there is a high prevalence of sm in patients on dp.

Abstract: OBJETIVO: Examinar a validade concorrente do escore Nine Equivalents of Nursing Manpower Use Score (NEMS) em compara o ao Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System-28 (TISS-28) em uma Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Pediátrica (UTIP). MéTODOS: Estudo de coorte prospectivo observacional, realizado na UTIP de um hospital universitário brasileiro, no período de dois anos, com uma amostra de 816 pacientes. Foram realizadas 7.702 observa es de cada um dos escores. RESULTADOS: A média da pontua o máxima do NEMS foi 26,6±9,2 e do TISS-28 21,3±8,2. Em todas as médias, o TISS-28 foi inferior ao NEMS (p<0,001). Houve uma boa correla o entre eles (r2=0,704 para todas as observa es). A concordancia entre o TISS-28 e o NEMS foi boa, apresentando apenas 6,2% de diferen a entre os escores. CONCLUS O: Os resultados mostraram boa correla o e concordancia entre o TISS-28 e o NEMS, permitindo validar o NEMS nessa popula o de pacientes pediátricos. OBJECTIVE: Examine the concurrent validity of the Nine Equivalents of Nursing Manpower Use Score (NEMS) in comparison to the Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System-28 (TISS-28) in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). METHODS: Prospective observational cohort study conducted in a PICU of a Brazilian university hospital over a period of two years with a sample of 816 patients. A total of 7,702 observations were obtained for each of the scores. RESULTS: The average maximum score of the NEMS was 26.6±9.2 and for the TISS-28 it was 21.3±8.2. The TISS-28 was lower than the NEMS (p<0.001) for all the averages. A good correlation was observed between them (r2=0.704) for all observations. Agreement between the TISS-28 and the NEMS was good, presenting only a 6.2% difference between the scores. CONCLUSION: The results show good correlation and agreement between the TISS-28 and the NEMS, enabling the NEMS validation in this population of pediatric patients.

Abstract: Introduction: Indices of gravity aim to estimate the disease’s severity. The Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System – 28 (TISS-28) is used in Intensive Care Units as an indirect index to estimate the disease`s gravity interval, which has also been recently used to relate the nursing workload Objective: To review each operational item/definition of the Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System (TISS-28), making a re-reading in order to systematize the data collection practice in Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs). Materials and Methods: An integrative revision research of medical and nursing literature through the base of data from Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) using the terms Intensive Care Units, scales and Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System-28 or TISS-28. The articles were selected according to their relevance, as the authors opinion. Results: Preliminary studies show that the use of TISS-28 in ICU of adults patients, has helped in the evolutionary clinical assessment of the patient’s worsening, besides associations between death and elevated scores. The items/operational definitions evaluated in this score are reviewed in order to facilitate the interpretation of each item in the TISS -28 daily application in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Conclusion: The daily assessment of the 28 TISS variables allows the acquirement of an evolutionary profile of hospitalized children, which can help to increase the knowledge of the hospitalized child clinical picture and its prognosis. Abstract: this study conducted a integrative review of the literature with the objective of describing the historical trajectory of therapeutic interventions scores with emphasis on nine equivalents of nursing manpower use score in intensive care units. the descriptors used were "intensive care units" and "scales", for publications issued between 2000 and 2009. the sensitized terms were: "nine equivalents of nursing manpower use score" or "nems", "unidade de terapia intensiva", "therapeutic intervention scoring system-76", "therapeutic intervention scoring system-28 or "tiss-28". medical literature analysis and retrieval system online (medline) and literatura latino-americana e do caribe em ciências da saúde (lilacs) publications were selected. among the 295 papers reviewed, 18 were chosen, of which 55,5% were in english. the studies approach nems (33,3%), therapeutic intervention scoring system-76 (11,1%), tiss-28 (33,3%), among others. researches emphasized that nems has been a useful, operational and succinct tool.

Abstract: Bulk materials were synthesized by the Bridgman technique using the elements Cu, Ga, Se. These samples were characterized by Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS) to determine the elemental composition, as well as by X-ray diffraction for structure, hot point probe method for type of conductivity. Optical response (Photoconductivity) and Photoluminescence (PL) and PL-excitation (PLE) at temperatures from 4.2 to 77 K were also used to estimate the band-gap energy of Cu-Ga3Se5. They show a nearly perfect stoechiometry and present p-type conductivity. CuGa3Se5 either have an Ordered Defect Chalcopyrite structure (ODC), or an Ordered Vacancy Chalcopyrite structure (OVC). The gap energy obtained by Photoconductivity and Photoluminescence (PL) for the different samples is 1.85 eV. Studying the variation of the gap as a function of the temperature shows that the transition is a D-A type. The defects that appear are probably GaCu.

Abstract: Using Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (SE), the optical properties of Cu(In1xGax)3Se5 bulk compounds, grown by the Bridgman method, were analyzed by varying x composition (0 ≤ x ≤ 1). Energy levels above the gap in the band scheme were determined by measuring the complex dielectric function \"\"?at room-temperature for energies between 1.5 and 5.5 eV using a variable angle of incidence ellipsometer. The transitions values E1, E2 and E3 were observed above the gap for different samples of Cu(In1xGax)3Se5 alloy. When a gallium atom replaces an indium atom, one assumes globally that the levels related to selenium and copper are unchanged. Conversely, the levels corresponding to the conduction band are shifted towards higher energies. Thus, the gap increases as the composition of gallium increases. Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (SE) gave evidence for the interpretation of the choice of gap values which were compatible with that obtained from solar spectrum. Several other characterization methods like Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS), hot point probe method, X-ray diffraction, Photoluminescence (PL), Optical response (Photoconductivity) were presented in this paper. The Cu(In1xGax)3Se5 have an Ordered Vacancy Chalcopyrite-type structure with lattice constants varying as a function of the x composition. The band gap energy of Cu(In1xGax)3Se5 compounds is found to vary from 1.23 eV to 1.85 eV as a function of x.

Many transitions were observed above the gap for different samples. Spectroscopic Ellipsometry gave evidence for the interpretation of the choice of gap values which were compatible with that obtained from solar spectrum.

Abstract: The article attempts to examine aspects of aging, in a positive sense, understanding Education as an aid to preventative measures in the health-care of the elderly, leading to aspects of health and quality of life, emotional health and well-being of the elderly within the framework of Positive Psychology, and its application to educational activities for the elderly. Health is currently a highly popular topic of discourse in all media platforms. Doctors and professionals in the field, in addition to other interested public bodies, comment daily on the issues involved in this topic and, principally, there is now a concern with the planning of preventative measures, as a factor that can guarantee a better quality of life and greater longevity. Abstract: The present work prepared the CuIn3Se5 ingots by using a horizontal Bridgman method and investigated the Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) to calculate the compositions of the ingots. Photoluminescence was used to check their optical properties. It was found that CuIn3Se5 had either a Stanite structure, an Ordered Defect Chalcopyrite (ODC) structure, or an Ordered Vacancy Chalcopyrite (OVC) structure. The gap energy obtained by Photoluminescence (PL) for the different samples is 1.23 eV. Studying the variation of the gap as a function of the temperature shows that the transition is a D-A type.
