Abstract: The study aims to solve two problems: 1) The current situation of English majors in oral English study. 2) The influence and relevance of self-efficacy on oral English learning strategies of English majors in China. The study makes a comprehensive survey on the self-efficacy and oral learning strategies of English majors in Yangtze Normal University. It intends to make an investigation about English majors’ self-efficacy and spoken English learning strategies, guiding English majors to learn how to make use of self-efficacy to solve the difficulties in oral learning and to improve oral communication ability.

Abstract: Currently, there are kinds of algorithms in order to detect real-time urban traffic condition. Most of these approaches consider speed of vehicles as a main metric to describe traffic situation. In this paper, we find out two important observations through several experiments. (1) In urban city, the speed of vehicles is influenced significantly by some factors such as traffic lights delay and road condition. The actual situation rarely satisfy hypothesis required for these solutions. Therefore, these traditional algorithms do not work well in practical environment. (2) Traffic volume on a road segment shows strong pattern and changes smoothly at adjacent time. This feature of traffic volume inspires us to define a metric: traffic-rate, which is used to detect traffic condition in real time. In our solution, we develop a novel traffic-detection algorithm based on original- destination (OD) matrix. We illustrate our approach and measure its performance in real environment. The performance evaluations confirm the effectiveness of our algorithm.

Abstract: Wireless Sensor Network based on ZigBee technology is a wireless network which is composed of many nodes of ZigBee RF chips, sensors and MCUs, especially suitable for application of the remote monitoring system in flammable and explosive environments. This paper presents the characteristics and advantages of ZigBee technology, also discusses the system for hardware and software design. This system effectively fulfills the remote monitoring in flammable and explosive environments and posses high practical values.

Abstract: Flannery O’Connor is one of the 20th Century Southern American writers, whose usual theme of absurdity and alienation is well embodied in her classic short story A Good Man Is Hard to Find. This paper mainly deals with the cartoonised characters, especially the granny. The artistic methods used to describe the characters are closely related to the following: realistic method, exaggerative method, metaphorical method, and symbolic method. This article attempts to explore the artistic methods used to describe the characters and their significances and also their contributions to the theme of absurdity and alienation. Key words: A Good Man Is Hard to Find, cartoonised character, absurdity Résumé Flannery O’Connor est une des femmes écrivains très connues des Etats-Unis du IIe siècle. Son recueil des nouvelles A Good Man Is Hard to Find attire surtout plus d’attention des lecteurs. Il décris des personnages humouristiques très vives, ce qui se traduit en évidence par la grand-mère. Les méthodes de description des personnages caricaturistes( les méthodes artistiques) peuvent de résumer en : méthodes réalistique, méthode exagérative, méthode métaphorique et méthode symbolique. Cette thèse part des personnages humoristiques et cherche les formes de description et les significations des personnages dans des oeuves pour dévoiler le thème d’absurdité. Comparative analysis of de novo transcriptome assembly

Abstract: The fast development of next-generation sequencing technology presents a major computational challenge for data processing and analysis. A fast algorithm, de Bruijn graph has been successfully used for genome DNA de novo assembly; nevertheless, its performance for transcriptome assembly is unclear. In this study, we used both simulated and real RNA-Seq data, from either artificial RNA templates or human transcripts, to evaluate five de novo assemblers, ABySS, Mira, Trinity, Velvet and Oases. Of these assemblers, ABySS, Trinity, Velvet and Oases are all based on de Bruijn graph, and Mira uses an overlap graph algorithm. Various numbers of RNA short reads were selected from the External RNA Control Consortium (ERCC) data and human chromosome 22. A number of statistics were then calculated for the resulting contigs from each assembler. Each experiment was repeated multiple times to obtain the mean statistics and standard error estimate. Trinity had relative good performance for both ERCC and human data, but it may not consistently generate full length transcripts. ABySS was the fastest method but its assembly quality was low. Mira gave a good rate for mapping its contigs onto human chromosome 22, but its computational speed is not satisfactory. Our results suggest that transcript assembly remains a challenge problem for bioinformatics society. Therefore, a novel assembler is in need for assembling transcriptome data generated by next generation sequencing technique.
Prediction of the Number of Activated Genes in Multiple Independent Cd+2- and As+3-Induced Malignant Transformations of Human Urothelial Cells (UROtsa)

Abstract: Background Many toxic environmental agents such as cadmium and arsenic are found to be epidemiologically linked to increasing rates of cancers. In vitro studies show that these toxic agents induced malignant transformation in human cells. It is not clear whether such malignant transformation induced by a single toxic agent is driven by a common set of genes. Although the advancement of high-throughput technology has facilitated the profiling of global gene expression, it remains a question whether the sample size is sufficient to identify this common driver gene set. Results We have developed a statistical method, SOFLR, to predict the number of common activated genes using a limited number of microarray samples. We conducted two case studies, cadmium and arsenic transformed human urothelial cells. Our method is able to precisely predict the number of stably induced and repressed genes and the number of samples to identify the common activated genes. The number of independent transformed isolates required for identifying the common activated genes is also estimated. The simulation study further validated our method and identified the important parameters in this analysis. Conclusions Our method predicts the degree of similarity and diversity during cell malignant transformation by a single toxic agent. The results of our case studies imply the existence of common driver and passenger gene sets in toxin-induced transformation. Using a pilot study with small sample size, this method also helps microarray experimental design by determining the number of samples required to identify the common activated gene set.
Simultaneous Measurement of Thirteen Steroid Hormones in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Control Women Using Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: Background The measurement of adrenal and ovarian androgens in women with PCOS has been difficult based on poor specificity and sensitivity of assays in the female range. Methods Women with PCOS (NIH criteria; n = 52) and control subjects with 25–35 day menstrual cycles, no evidence of hyperandrogenism and matched for BMI (n = 42) underwent morning blood sampling. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was used to simultaneously measure 13 steroids from a single blood sample to measure adrenal and ovarian steroids. Androgen and progesterone results were compared in the same samples using RIA. Results Testosterone, androstenedione, progesterone and 17OH progesterone levels were higher when measured using RIA compared to LC-MS/MS, although the testosterone RIA demonstrated the best agreement with the LC-MS/MS using a Bland-Altman analysis. Results using LC-MS/MS demonstrated that the concentration of androgens and their precursors were higher in women with PCOS than controls [median (2.5, 97.5th %ile); 1607 (638, 3085) vs. 1143 (511, 4784) ng/dL; p = 0.03]. Women with PCOS had higher testosterone [49 (16, 125) vs. 24 (10, 59) ng/dL], androstenedione [203 (98, 476) vs. 106 (69, 223) ng/dL] and 17OH progesterone levels [80 (17, 176) vs. 44 (17, 142) ng/dL] compared to controls (all P<0.02), but no differences in serum concentrations of the adrenal steroids DHEAS, cortisol, corticosterone and their 11 deoxy precursors. Women with PCOS also had an increase in the product:precursor ratio for 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase [22% (6, 92) vs. 20% (4, 43); p = 0.009]. Conclusion LC-MS/MS was superior to RIA in measuring androstenedione, progesterone and 17OH progesterone levels, while testosterone measurements were better matched in the two assays. Androgen levels were higher in women with PCOS in the absence of a difference in adrenal-predominant steroids. These data support previous findings that the ovary is an important source for the androgen excess in women with PCOS.
Overexpression of IL-10 in C2D Macrophages Promotes a Macrophage Phenotypic Switch in Adipose Tissue Environments

Abstract: Adipose tissue macrophages are a heterogeneous collection of classically activated (M1) and alternatively activated (M2) macrophages. Interleukin 10 (IL-10) is an anti-inflammatory cytokine, secreted by a variety of cell types including M2 macrophages. We generated a macrophage cell line stably overexpressing IL-10 (C2D-IL10) and analyzed the C2D-IL10 cells for several macrophage markers after exposure to adipocytes compared to C2D cells transfected with an empty vector (C2D-vector). C2D-IL10 macrophage cells expressed more CD206 when co-cultured with adipocytes than C2D-vector cells; while the co-cultured cell mixture also expressed higher levels of Il4, Il10, Il1β and Tnf. Since regular C2D cells traffic to adipose tissue after adoptive transfer, we explored the impact of constitutive IL-10 expression on C2D-IL10 macrophages in adipose tissue in vivo. Adipose tissue-isolated C2D-IL10 cells increased the percentage of CD206+, CD301+, CD11c?CD206+ (M2) and CD11c+CD206+ (M1b) on their cell surface, compared to isolated C2D-vector cells. These data suggest that the expression of IL-10 remains stable, alters the C2D-IL10 macrophage cell surface phenotype and may play a role in regulating macrophage interactions with the adipose tissue.
Assessing Money Laundering Risk of Financial Institutions with AHP: Supervisory Perspective  [PDF]

This paper proposed a risk assessment model with which supervisory authorities can calculate the money laundering risk (MLR) level of financial institutions and make comparisons among multiple institutions. The model is based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and decomposes MLR into two second-tier criteria, i.e. Inherent Risk & Control Risk. AHP pair wise comparisons made by the experts from various fields are processed through AHP software to get the weight of each factor. Using this model, MLR of each financial institution could be obtained and certain comparison among them could be carried out.
