Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the antiseptic effect of 2% and 4% sodium hypochloride solutions in footbath for bovines, considering parameters as stability during storage and use, action on mesophilic aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms and direct effects on tissue. Healthy bovines passed by a footbath, once a day, during five days. At the end of passages, samples of each solution were harvested for physiochemical and microbiological analysis. The first samples were obtained immediately after the solution deposition in footbath. Student t Test (p= 0,05%) was applied for data analysis. It was observed that 2% and 4% solutions didn’t show significant differences on aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms counting, suggesting that solutions have the same antiseptic effect. In both solutions, the pH remained steady. Free chlorine concentrations showed levels equivalent to zero from the third day. Clinical signs of injury weren’t observed in interdigital skin and others digital regions. Thus, these results allow us to conclude that sodium hypochloride solution in 2% and 4% dilutions, when they are used in footbath, have antiseptic effect in bovine digits, however, the renewal must be after 48 hours.

Aiming to investigate the main factors of culling in Holstein cows under intensive management, it was obtained datas from 2.083 Holstein breed of five properties from the Goias State and one propriety from Sao Paulo State, in the period between January of 2000 and January of 2003. The obtained information were ranked in categories, after calculating the respective frequency in percentage. It was culled 296 animals (14.2%) during the studied period. Eighty two (27.7%) of them occurred for alterations on the reproductive system, 55 (18.5%) for diseases in the locomotor system, 51 (17.2%) due to the alterations of the mammary gland, seven (2.6%) for the occurrence of digestive problems, three (2.6%) for metabolic diseases, two (0.7%) due to respiratory infirmities, one (0.7%) for photossensibility and 95 (32%) for several reasons. It was considered indispensable the adoption of effective actions for the control of the reproductive, locomotor and of the mammary gland disorders for the maintenance of the animals in the flock and, consecutively, for the profitability of this business. Abstract: the objective of this study was to validate three different models for predicting milk urea nitrogen using field conditions, attempting to evaluate the nutritional adequacy diets for dairy cows and prediction of nitrogen excreted to the environment. observations (4,749) from 855 cows were used. milk yield, body weight (bw), days in milk and parity were recorded on the milk sampling days. milk was sampled monthly, for analysis of milk urea nitrogen (mun), fat, protein, lactose and total solids concentration and somatic cells count. individual dry matter intake was estimated using the nrc (2001). the three models studied were derived from a first one to predict urinary nitrogen (un). model 1 was mun = un/12.54, model 2 was mun = un/17.6 and model 3 was mun = un/(0.0259 × bw), adjusted by body weight effect. to evaluate models, they were tested for accuracy, precision and robustness. despite being more accurate (mean bias = 0.94 mg/dl), model 2 was less precise (residual error = 4.50 mg/dl) than model 3 (mean bias = 1.41 and residual error = 4.11 mg/dl), while model 1 was the least accurate (mean bias = 6.94 mg/dl) and the least precise (residual error = 5.40 mg/dl). they were not robust, because they were influenced by almost all the variables studied. the three models for predicting milk urea nitrogen were different with respect to accuracy, precision and robustness.

Abstract: the objective of this study was to evaluate the association of non-dietary factors on the concentration of milk urea nitrogen (mun), as an indicator of efficiency of nutrient utilization by lactating dairy cows. a dataset containing 7,006 observations from 855 lactating holstein cows were used. milk yield, body weight, days in milk and number of lactation were collected on the milk sampling days. monthly samples of milk were collected to determine contents of milk fat, protein, lactose, total solids, mun and somatic cells count (scc). yield of milk components (fat, protein, lactose and total solids) as well as 4% fat-corrected milk (fcm) were also used in the study. regression analyses of mun, as the dependent variable, on fcm, scc and content and yield of milk components were done to analyze the data. mean mun and milk yield averaged 13.3 mg/dl and 35.8 kg/day, respectively. milk contents of fat, protein, lactose and total solids as well as scc (natural logarithm transformed) were negatively associated with mun while the opposite was observed for yields of milk lactose and total solids and milk production. yields of milk fat and milk protein (kg), fcm, days in milk and number of lactation all were correlated with mun, however there was lack of fit for the linear equation. no significant correlations between mun and body weight and mun and fat:protein ratio were observed. among the non-dietary factors, milk yield and milk protein concentration correlated most with mun.

Abstract: the present study thoroughly examines the investigative exercise conducted by michel foucault about insanity, demarcating the inextricable tie that the concept of insanity has with a specified cultural configuration and pointing to its unfoldment within the contemporary context; along these lines, it follows the path of foucault in its archaeological and genealogical moments: from the perception of a nomadic and almost romanticized madness to one that begins to take shape under the imperative of reason; from a categorization of madness as being close to the regions of crime and punishment to its apparent dispersion in the ample classificatory axis of abnormality described in the modern scenario.

Revista Mal-estar e Subjetividade , 2002,
Abstract: The present study examines the Freudian cultural work, especially his writings on moral, religion, the discourse on science, and war, arguing about their efficacy as instruments of analysis of the modern cultural events. Along these lines, it signalizes the human condition described in psychoanalysis and the antagonism pertaining to the individual s encounter with culture, reconstituting the criticism to the ideals of plenitude and wellbeing, which are disseminated by the religious institution and radically confirmed through the discourse on science. Thus, it argues about the rise of scientific knowledge as being the exclusive form of access to truth and the vision of man that emerges from this knowledge when it offers him a technological and technical arsenal as the means for him to reach absolute power and satisfaction. Against the na ve promise of a happiness without tensions that these ideals present, the study refers to the uneasiness that is immanent to the psychoanalytic proposition of subject. It chooses to analyze war as a cultural event that reaffirms the destructive force of the death impulse and points to the tragic character of analytical knowledge. The reflection allows for an instigating reading of the modern cultural scenario, ending by demonstrating the critical power of the ethical proposition engendered by psychoanalysis and pointing to the pertinence of this theoretical apparatus as an instrument for analyzing the social facts that are in process in the modern world.
