Revista chilena de obstetricia y ginecología , 2004, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-75262004000100009
Abstract: two clinical cases of pregnant women who developed magnesium sulphate intoxication after its use for eclampsia and preeclampsia treatment are reported. the use of magnesium in these patients that also presented renal failure is discussed. a 19 year old patient with eclampsia and acute renal failure, and a 33 year old with chronic hypertension plus preeclampsia and chronic renal failure are presented. both patients were treated with intravenous magnesium sulphate. we describe clinical and laboratory findings during maternal sulphate intoxication. conclusion: treatment with magnesium sulphate for patients with preeclampsia or eclampsia complicated with renal failure is not contraindicated, but magnesium sulphate levels must be strictly controlled

Revista chilena de obstetricia y ginecología , 2004, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-75262004000100010
Abstract: a 35 weeks pregnant woman with clinical symptoms and signs of pancreatitis, which confirmed with increase of amylase and lipase serum values. a cesarean section had to be performed because fetal distress. newborn weight was 2.450 g, apgar score 6-9 and had a favorable outcome. patient was discharged after 15 days of hospitalization. acute pancreatitis in pregnancy is a severe condition that requires a prompt diagnosis and treatment to secure maternal and fetal well being. a correct management of this infrequent association remains of critical importance

Abstract: Se analiza y discute la evolución de dos pacientes, la primera con eclampsia e insuficiencia renal aguda, y la segunda con hipertensión arterial crónica e insuficiencia renal crónica más preeclampsia sobreagregada. Ambas son tratadas con sulfato de magnesio endovenoso y presentan elementos clínicos de intoxicación. Se controla la evolución clínica y bioquímica de las pacientes y los niveles de magnesemia hasta alcanzar niveles normales. Se observa que posterior a la interrupción del sulfato de magnesio, los niveles normales se logran al tercer día en la primera paciente y al décimo en la segunda Two clinical cases of pregnant women who developed magnesium sulphate intoxication after its use for eclampsia and preeclampsia treatment are reported. Abstract: Se describe el caso clínico de un embarazo complicado con pancreatitis aguda, destacándose la importancia del diagnóstico correcto y las opciones terapéuticas en pacientes embarazadas. Paciente primigesta de 35 semanas con sospecha clínica de pancreatitis aguda y confirmación mediante amilasemia de 2.236 U/L y lipasemia de 1.930 U/L, es tratada en forma conservadora. Al cuarto día de hospitalización se realiza operación cesárea por sufrimiento fetal. Evoluciona en buenas condiciones y es dada de alta luego de 15 días de hospitalización. La pancreatitis aguda durante el embarazo es una grave complicación, debiéndose realizar un adecuado diagnóstico diferencial con patologías graves del embarazo, y efectuando un adecuado tratamiento para asegurar el bienestar materno y fetal A 35 weeks pregnant woman with clinical symptoms and signs of pancreatitis, which confirmed with increase of amylase and lipase serum values. Chahuán Jiménez,Karime;
Investigación y Postgrado , 2010,
Abstract: this paper aims to explain the behavior of the bases and functions of strategic processes in the development of the universidad de valparaiso, chile. the research was conducted through several methodological steps that were included in the validation of the theoretical dimensions, the analysis of the documentary record, the categorization derived from analysis of the interviews and, the analysis result of discrepancies in accordance with the malcolm provus model. it follows that universidad de valparaiso recognizes the foundations and functions as the foundation of the strategic process; however, according to various sources of data, there is discrepancy of opinion and knowledge of these processes. since the university is in the beginning of a strategic planning process, continues a situation that is ratified in accordance with the application of gap analysis model.
Mass Media Influence Spreading in Social Networks with Community Structure
Julián Candia,Karina I. Mazzitello
Physics , 2008, DOI: 10.1088/1742-5468/2008/07/P07007
Abstract: We study an extension of Axelrod's model for social influence, in which cultural drift is represented as random perturbations, while mass media are introduced by means of an external field. In this scenario, we investigate how the modular structure of social networks affects the propagation of mass media messages across the society. The community structure of social networks is represented by coupled random networks, in which two random graphs are connected by intercommunity links. Considering inhomogeneous mass media fields, we study the conditions for successful message spreading and find a novel phase diagram in the multidimensional parameter space. These findings show that social modularity effects are of paramount importance in order to design successful, cost-effective advertising campaigns.
Diffusion-Based Density-Equalizing Maps: an Interdisciplinary Approach to Visualizing Homicide Rates and Other Georeferenced Statistical Data
Karina I. Mazzitello,Julián Candia
Physics , 2012, DOI: 10.1007/s13538-012-0091-0
Abstract: In every country, public and private agencies allocate extensive funding to collect large-scale statistical data, which in turn are studied and analyzed in order to determine local, regional, national, and international policies regarding all aspects relevant to the welfare of society. One important aspect of that process is the visualization of statistical data with embedded geographical information, which most often relies on archaic methods such as maps colored according to graded scales. In this work, we apply non-standard visualization techniques based on physical principles. We illustrate the method with recent statistics on homicide rates in Brazil and their correlation to other publicly available data. This physics-based approach provides a novel tool that can be used by interdisciplinary teams investigating statistics and model projections in a variety of fields such as economics and gross domestic product research, public health and epidemiology, socio-demographics, political science, business and marketing, and many others.
Evaluación cualitativa y gestión del conocimiento
Chahuán-Jiménez,Karime;
Educación y Educadores , 2009,
Abstract: the present article discusses the sorts of qualitative assessments applied to teaching and learning strategies, based on a knowledge management approach. the latter is an educational practice with a holistic vision of teaching and a constructivist view of learning. the article was developed through an exhaustive review of different authors who make reference to qualitative assessment and to the processes for knowledge generation and management. teaching and learning strategies were applied, as were the different sorts of qualitative assessment: artistic, democratic, responsive, illuminated and integrated, which were associated with learning processes. in conclusion, each sort of qualitative assessment makes it possible to evaluate the ability to manage knowledge, depending on the object of the assessment, its focus and the orientation of the assessment strategy. in no case are the different sorts of assessments exclusive. several can be applied at once and even altogether in a complementary way for a comprehensive assessment of the application of knowledge management as a method for teaching and learning.
