A rare cutaneous tumor of the axilla: Apocrine adenocarcinoma
Karaca Semsettin,Kulac Mustafa,Sahin Onder,Esme Hidir
Indian Journal of Dermatology , 2007,
Abstract: Sweat gland neoplasms are rare with approximately 200 cases of eccrine sweat gland and less than 50 cases of apocrine gland carcinoma being reported in the worldwide literature. More than half of the reported cases with apocrine adenocarcinoma had lymph node metastases at the time of diagnosis. We report a case of a 56-year-old man, presented with a left axillary slow-growing seven year old painless nodule. Histopathological examination revealed an invasive apocrine adenocarcinoma with lymph node metastases. The patient successfully treated with total excision and radiotherapy. Apocrine adenocarcinoma is a rare malignancy with high metastatic potential that occurs mostly in the axilla. Physicians should be aware of this entity while differentiating cutaneous tumor located on the axillary region.
Serum homocysteine, vitamin B 12 and folic acid levels in different types of glaucoma
Tongabay Cumurcu, Semsettin Sahin, Erdinc Aydin
BMC Ophthalmology , 2006, DOI: 10.1186/1471-2415-6-6
Abstract: Twentyfive patients with POAG, 24 with PEXG, and 18 with NTG, along with 19 control healthy subjects were included this prospective study. Levels of serum Hcy were measured using immunoassay, and those of serum vitamin B12 and folic acid were measured using competitive chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay. The mean Hcy concentration in the PEXG group was significantly higher (P < 0.001) as compared to the other groups. There were no significant differences with respect to the mean Hcy concentrations among other groups (P > 0.05). There were no statistical differences in serum vitamin B12 levels among POAG, PEXG, NTG and control subjects (P > 0.05).The mean serum folic acid level was significantly lower in the subjects with PEXG (P < 0.009). However, the mean folic acid concentrations among the other groups did not differ significantly (P > 0.05).Elevated levels of Hcy in PEXG may explain the role of endothelial dysfunction among patients with PEXG.Intraocular pressure (IOP) is assumed to be the most significant risk factor in glaucoma, but recent evidences indicate that vascular risk factors may also play a role. Impaired microcirculation and abnormal perfusion may cause glaucomatous damage in the optic nerve head. Anatomical or functional abnormalities of the vessels of the optic nerve head such as arteriosclerosis or vascular dysregulation might be the causative factor [1,2].The metabolism of methionine via homocysteine (Hcy) to cysteine is a complex pathway involving an enzyme depending on vitamin B12, B6, and folic acid. Genetically inherited defects are the most important determinants of elevated levels of Hcy. Some studies showed that elevated Hcy may increase the risk of retinal vascular diseases, such as retinal artery and vein occlusion and non-artheritic ischemic optic neuropathy [3-7]. Hcy-induced vascular problem may be a multifactorial case, including direct toxic damage to the endothelium, stimulation of proliferation of smooth muscle cells, enhanced low

Abstract: G lgesizler, which is written by Hasan Ali Topta attracts attention at first glance with its extraordinary plot technique. The novel is double stranded. The events take place in parallel to each other. In the first strand the events takes place in city; in the second one the events take place in a village. These two strand and the places are tied to each other with the people who get lost in village appearing in the city or get lost in the city appearing in the village. The narrator sometimes looks into the city sometimes into the village. The novel is plotted between these two places so the two strands mingle with each other turning into the shape of spiral. In this essay this novel will be analysed in terms of its plot technique. Other element which attracts attention is the theme of the novel. Topta handles people who exist on the one hand and do not exist on the other hand. Existence and nonexistence are the vicious circle of the life. The novel in this essay will also be analysed in terms of this philosophical issue and the theme Hasan Ali Topta ’ n roman G lgesizler, ilk bak ta al lmam kurgu tekni iyle dikkati eker. ift zincirli bir romand r bu. Advances in Difference Equations , 2009,
Abstract: Criteria are established for existence of least one or three positive solutions for boundary value problems of second-order functional dynamic equations on time scales. By this purpose, we use a fixed-point index theorem in cones and Leggett-Williams fixed-point theorem.

Abstract: In this article, the impact on business life of the ongoing issue of the headscarf ban in the public sector will be examined, with particular attention to the relationship between employer and employee. More specifically, this article will focus on expert-employees and on conservative investorexpert-employees who wear headscarves This article isbased on written literature, research reports by a number of foundations and associations, writers, observations by sociologists and investors, and interviews with participants. made up of expert-employees who wear the headscarf and conservative investors. An “in-depth” method was used when conducting interviews in which there were twenty participants; eleven of which were expert-employees who wear headscarves, and nine were conservative investors. Three of the expert-employees were top level managers, while the other eight were middle level workers. During the interviews, a recording device was used for only one of the participants and notes were taken for the others. The duration of the interviews ranged from proximately two to two and a half hours without break. The history of the headscarf ban, its impact on people, how people’s notions and attitudes toward the headscarf have changed between the 1960s and 2000s, the direct and indirect effects of the headscarf ban in public places on the business life, and the perspectives held toward the headscarfby conservative-investors will be examined in this paper. As a result, it has been found that expert employees have been discriminated against in various areas and aspects of the professional world. Although their reasons may vary, examples can be seen in the job application process and in business life. The basic challenges expert-workers who wear headscarves face are restrictions in the amount of companies who will even consider hiring them, being assigned lower wages, and facing greater obstacles toward promotion.
Türkiye'de Enflasyon - Büyüme li kisi : Zaman Serisi Analizi = Inflation - Growth Relationship in Turkey : Time Series Analysis
Dogus University Journal , 2003,
Abstract: The relationship between inflation and growth in Turkey is examined in this paper with time series analysis using quarterly data related to 1987-2002 period. A unidirectional casuality runs from inflation to growth within the Granger casuality analysis. The regression analysis we have made points out that inflation effects growth negatively. Every 1 point increase in inflation is found to decrease growth rate by 0.37 points during the examined period.
