Knowledge Management and SMEs: A Study of Knowledge Management Utilization by SMEs in Iran
Naser Valaei,Kamarulzaman Ab. Aziz
IBIMA Business Review , 2011,
Abstract: Creating and sustaining a competitive advantage is a knowledge-based activity and those companies that are aware of knowledge management concepts and utilize it within their organizations have an edge over their competitors. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a major role in developing countries’ growth agenda. The purpose of this study is to examine the degree of KM utilization in Iranian SMEs and it conducts a comparative analysis of SMEs in Taiwan and Hong Kong. In order to gauge the degree of utilization, infrastructure and process capabilities of Iranian SMEs are investigated. It is found that KM in Iranian SMEs is partially, not fully, deployed. Further, the results of regression analysis indicate that organizational culture has a significant role in KM adoption amongst Iranian SMEs.
Intellectual Property Valuation Decision Support System for University Research Output: A Conceptual Model

Communications of the IBIMA , 2012,
Abstract: Commercializing university research outputs or intellectual property is an imperative facet in the National Economic Model of the 10th Malaysian Plan (2011-2015) whereby innovation-based economy is the vehicle identified to drive Malaysia into becoming a high-income nation. A vital aspect of this innovation-based economy is Intellectual Property (IP) and its strategic management in the preliminary commercialization phase. One of the critical components of strategic management of IP is the valuation process. In order to capture and capitalize the IP resulting from university research, valuing the IP becomes a significant juncture on the road to exploitation and commercialization. This paper explores the aspects of IP valuation practices among Malaysian universities. It is found that IP valuation generally was done by external consultants or committees. This paper suggests that technology development provides an opportunity for enabling the researchers themselves with the capability to do the IP valuation.
Establishment and Optimization Growth of Shoot Buds-Derived Callus and Suspension Cell Cultures of Kaempferia parviflora  [PDF]

American Journal of Plant Sciences (AJPS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ajps.2014.518284

Callus and suspension cells culture of Kaempferia parviflora was successfully established. Meristematic shoots can be used for utilization of plant cell biosynthetic capabilities for obtaining useful products from valuable medicinal plant to meet out the pharmaceutical demand and also for studying the metabolism. The medium containing combination of 0.2 mg/L 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 0.2 mg/L napthyleneacetic acid (NAA) promoted the highest callus induction at 20%. Transferring the initiated callus on the medium with 1 mg/L 2,4-D enhanced the proliferation rate up to maximum fresh weight of 6.71 gm. Growth curve of cultured cells revealed that the cells continued to grow until 50 days of culture and showed the highest peak (fresh weight) at 40 days in all different initial weight tested ( 0.2, 0.5 and 1.0 gram). Isolated embryogenic callus was found to produce the highest in weight when suspended in liquid medium supplemented with 1 mg/L 2,4-D at 110 rpm resulted 13.5 gram fresh weight and 1080 mg dry weight.

Drivers for University Research Performance: Investigating the Researchers’ Dynamics
Kamarulzaman Ab. Aziz,Hezlin Harris,Stanley Richardson,Nor Azlina Ab. Aziz
IBIMA Business Review , 2012,
Abstract: Universities provide the foundations for a nation’s social, cultural, economic and technological progress. Beside the academic programmes offered by the universities that build the human capital, research activities are the other pillar of academia that help to drive a nation’s progress. Andersson (2010) identified research environment and researchers dynamics as the key factors that impact the quality of research in universities. The aim of this paper is to investigate the researchers’ dynamics resulting in excellent research performance by a university, and hence to derive lessons regarding university research performance. Specifically, the paper explores researchers’ profiles in terms of their achievements over the past five years, their attributes, behaviour and attitude. This was achieved by using a case study approach (Eisenhardt, 1989 and Yin, 1994). The identified top commercialisation producer among the universities in Malaysia, namely Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), was selected for the case study. This paper highlights the findings.
The Enhancement of Arabic Stemming by Using Light Stemming and Dictionary-Based Stemming  [PDF]

Journal of Software Engineering and Applications (JSEA) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/jsea.2011.49060
Abstract: Word stemming is one of the most important factors that affect the performance of many natural language processing applications such as part of speech tagging, syntactic parsing, machine translation system and information retrieval systems. Computational stemming is an urgent problem for Arabic Natural Language Processing, because Arabic is a highly inflected language. The existing stemmers have ignored the handling of multi-word expressions and identification of Arabic names. We used the enhanced stemming for extracting the stem of Arabic words that is based on light stemming and dictionary-based stemming approach. The enhanced stemmer includes the handling of multiword expressions and the named entity recognition. We have used Arabic corpus that consists of ten documents in order to evaluate the enhanced stemmer. We reported the accuracy values for the enhanced stemmer, light stemmer, and dictionary-based stemmer in each document. The results obtain shows that the average of accuracy in enhanced stemmer on the corpus is 96.29%. The experimental results showed that the enhanced stemmer is better than the light stemmer and dictionary-based stemmer that achieved highest accuracy values.
O paleodeserto de Xique-Xique
Ab'Sáber, Aziz;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142006000100020
Abstract: almost half century after identifying the xique-xique dune field in the lower middle valley of the s?o francisco river, the author takes up the subject again, both as scientific disclosure and as a warning for federal and state authorities in brazil. using recent satellite images of the region, he identifies the dangerous environment of progressive dilapidation that the paleo dune field is subject to. one already finds lesions on the north side of these fragile regional dunes and extensive improper use of the small valleys that crisscross the quaternary paleodesert (later pleistocene). there is also a progressive irradiation of trilhos e anastomosadas de bode on the chine of higher dunes, fixed by homogeneous creeping vegetation (psammous biome) and an enlargement of the western boundary of the dune field (from the piedmont of the estreito mountain range), not to mention other ongoing lesions, which may confute the alleged revitalization of the s?o francisco river.
