Abstract: Let T_b be commutator of the weighted BMO function b and the Calderon-Zygmund singular integral operator T.In this paper,the authors study the boundedness properties of T_b on some weighted spaces:weighted Hardy space,weighted Herz spaces and weighted Herz-type Hardy spaces.In addition,the authors also obtain its corresponding endpoint estimates.
Reversible tetraplegia after percutaneous nephrostolithotomy and septic shock: a case of critical illness polyneuropathy and myopathy with acute onset and complete recovery

Abstract: Background Critical illness polyneuropathy (CIP) and critical illness myopathy (CIM) are complications causing weakness of respiratory and limb muscles in critically ill patients. As an important differential diagnosis of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), CIP and CIM should be diagnosed with caution, after a complete clinical and laboratory examination. Although not uncommon in ICU, CIP and CIM as severe complications of percutaneous nephrostolithotomy (PNL) have not been documented in literature. Case presentation A 48-year-old Chinese woman was referred to our hospital, complaining of occasional pain in the right lower back for one month. Lithiasis was diagnosed by ultrasonographical and radiological examinations on the urinary system. PNL was indicated and performed. The patient developed CIP and CIM on the fourth day after PNL. Early recognition and treatment of the severe complications contributed to a satisfactory recovery of the patient. Conclusion This case expands our understanding of the complications of PNL and underscores the importance of differentiating CIP/CIM from GBS in case of such patients developing weakness after the treatment. Clinical characteristics and examination results should be carefully evaluated to make the diagnosis of CIP or CIM. Both anti-septic prophylaxis and control of hyperglycemia might be effective for the prevention of CIP or CIM; aggressive treatment on sepsis and multiple organ failure is considered to be the most effective measure to reduce the incidence of CIP/CIM.
Identification and Behavioral Evaluation of Sex Pheromone Components of the Chinese Pine Caterpillar Moth, Dendrolimus tabulaeformis

Abstract: Background The Chinese pine caterpillar moth, Dendrolimus tabulaeformis Tsai and Liu (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae) is the most important defoliator of coniferous trees in northern China. Outbreaks occur over enormous areas and often lead to the death of forests during 2–3 successive years of defoliation. The sex pheromone of D. tabulaeformis was investigated to define its chemistry and behavioral activity. Methodology/Principal Findings Sex pheromone was collected from calling female D. tabulaeformis by headspace solid phase microextraction (SPME) and by solvent extraction of pheromone glands. Extracts were analyzed by coupled gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and coupled GC-electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD), using antennae from male moths. Five components from the extracts elicited antennal responses. These compounds were identified by a combination of retention indices, electron impact mass spectral matches, and derivatization as (Z)-5-dodecenyl acetate (Z5-12:OAc), (Z)-5-dodecenyl alcohol (Z5-12:OH), (5Z,7E)-5,7-dodecadien-1-yl acetate (Z5,E7-12:OAc), (5Z,7E)-5,7-dodecadien-1-yl propionate (Z5,E7-12:OPr), and (5Z,7E)-5,7-dodecadien-1-ol (Z5,E7-12:OH). Behavioral assays showed that male D. tabulaeformis strongly discriminated against incomplete and aberrant blend ratios. The correct ratio of Z5,E7-12:OAc, Z5,E7-12:OH, and Z5,E7-12:OPr was essential for optimal upwind flight and source contact. The two monoenes, Z5-12:OAc and Z5-12:OH, alone or binary mixtures, had no effect on behavioral responses when added to the optimal three-component blend. Conclusions/Significance The fact that deviations from the optimal ratio of 100:100:4.5 of Z5,E7-12:OAc, Z5,EZ7-12:OH, and Z5,E7-12:OPr resulted in marked decreases in male responses suggests that biosynthesis of the pheromone components is precisely controlled. The optimal blend of the sex pheromone components of D. tabulaeformis worked out in this study should find immediate use in monitoring this pest in Chinese forests.
Effects of soil compactness on ginger plant senescence.

Abstract: Based on the determinations of main physiological parameters of ginger plant grown in different compactness soils, this paper studied the effects of soil compactness on the senescence of ginger plant. The results showed that with the increase of soil compactness, the root activity and the leaf NRase activity, chlorophyll content and photosynthetic rate of ginger plant declined, while the leaf electrolytic leakage and MDA content increased. The activities of leaf SOD, POD and CAT decreased with increasing soil compactness at early growth stage but were in adverse at late growth stage. At vigorous growth stage, the root activity and the leaf chlorophyll content and photosynthetic rate in the soil with a compactness of 1.49 g cm(-3) were 30.9%, 19.0% and 17.9% lower, and the leaf electrolytic leakage and MDA content were 57.2% and 26.3% higher, respectively, compared with those in the soil with a compactness of 1.20 g cm(-3), which indicated that compacted soil could accelerate the senescence of ginger plant.

Abstract: Plants have developed sophisticated defense systems during their long-time interaction with insects. About three decades ago, it was found that insect-damaged plants can prime their neighbors to express defense proteins, and this phenomenon was called “plant-plant communication”. A series of studies have focused on this topic since then. Results indicate that green-leaf volatiles and terpenes are the main chemicals emitted from the infested plant to the healthy neighbor plants, while direct and indirect defenses of the neighbors may both be regulated. An important consensus about plant-plant communication mechanisms until now is that the volatile organic chemicals do not induce resistance directly, but sensitize the receiver plant for augmented response to subsequent damages, which is called “priming”. However, the molecular mechanism of this phenomenon is unclear. We used Arabidopsis thaliana genome arrays and mutants to examine the molecular mechanisms of plant-plant communication. Our results indicate that several volatiles are effective signals, and the active volatiles are correlated with their emission rhythms to achieve the optimum effect. The ethylene pathway is indispensable for sensing the induction signal in the early phase of induction, while Jasmonic acid signal can amplify the effects. As the mechanisms of plant-plant communication become clearer, future research may focus on the origin and evolution of this phenomenon.

Abstract: 在对不同晶相比硅薄膜的实验研究的基础上,利用有效介质理论估算了这种两相材料的光吸 收系数、迁移率寿命乘积及带隙宽度等参量,计算机模拟了不同结晶比硅薄膜电池的伏安特 性及光谱响应;结果为随着本征层微晶成分的增多,电池的开路电压逐渐减小,短路电流逐 渐增大,本征层的最佳厚度逐渐增大,填充因子有降低的趋势,电池的效率随晶相比的增大 而减小. 电池的光谱响应曲线表明,随晶相比的增大电池的长波响应明显提高. 根据这些模 拟结果,分析讨论了在考虑Lambertian背反射的情况下,非晶/微晶叠层电池的底电池采用 晶相比为40%—50%的两相硅薄膜材料做本征层是最佳选择.

Abstract: 采用甚高频等离子体增强化学气相沉积(VHF-PECVD)法,成功制备出从非晶到微晶过渡区 域的硅薄膜. 样品的微结构、光电特性及光致变化的测量结果表明这些处于相变域的硅薄膜 兼具非晶硅优良的光电性质和微晶硅的稳定性. 用这种两相结构的材料作为本征层制备了p- i-n太阳能电池,并测量了其稳定性. 结果在AM15(100mW/cm2) 的光强下曝光 800—5000min后,开路电压略有升高,转换效率仅衰退了29%.

Abstract: To determine the community stability of arthropods and the dynamics of Mason pine caterpillars (Dendrolimus punctatus Walker), the cusp catastrophe models were developed based on diversity index, richness index, evenness index of defoliators, predators, parasitoids, sap sucking insects and the ratio of pests and natural enemies in Daqing Mountain in Guangxi Province during a complete outbreak of Mason pine caterpillars. The models were tested with data of Guiyang in Hunan Province. The results showed that during the outbreak process of the pine caterpillars, the arthropod communities in the outbreak areas were apparently unstable; in the non-outbreak years, the arthropod communities in the outbreak areas were in a sub-stable state; in the non-outbreak areas, the insect communities were in a sub-stable state in outbreak years, and the arthropod communities were apparently in a stable state in non-outbreak years. During the increasing phrase of the pine caterpillars, the non-stable state of communities would most likely lead to their outbreak. During the declining phrase, if the system was still in a non-stable state, it would also lead to consecutive outbreak, depending on the effects of various factors. The outbreak takes on nonlinear and catastrophic characteristics. Defoliators are the most important regulating factors. A system with various groups evenly related is relatively stable. Pest outbreaks are the expression of the arthropod communities that tend to be stable. This study demonstrates that the cusp catastrophe models can be applied to forecast the stability of arthropod communities and the dynamics of Mason pine caterpillars.Key Words: mason pine; Dendrolimus punctatus Walker; cusp catastrophe model; community; stability
Evidence for the involvement of NGF in human sperm motility  [PDF]

Abstract: Motility is an important physiological characteristic of a mature sperm. Nerve growth factor (NGF) is a key protein for the survival, maintenance and development of the central and peripheral nervous systems. It has been shown that NGF and its receptors TrkA and p75 are widely expressed in the testis, accessory reproductive organ, and the epididymal sperms. These observation have shifted the attention to the role of NGF on male reproductive physiology. In the present study, we found that NGF remarkably increased testicular coefficient in rats subjected to unpredictable chronic mild stress. Furthermore, we investigated the role of NGF on human sperm motility in vitro by CASA. The results showed that the parameters of sperm motility after NGF treatment had significantly increased, the means of VAP, VSL, VCL, BCF and LIN were significantly increased 32% than those of NGF absence, the means of MAD, STR, ALH and WOB had no notable difference. In addition, NGF promotes the sperm motility in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Taken together, our findings suggest that NGF plays a promoted role in sperm motility.

Abstract: On the basis of a brief presentation of the characteristic for the Fibonacci-class quasilattices (FC(n)),the properties of the spectra were studied for the second harmonic light (SHL) through the N layers ferroelectric superlattices constructed following FC(n) by means of the small-signal approximation.It was found that in the real space there existed perfect self-similarity for the most intense spectral peaks of SHL.On the other hand,the self-similarity for the spectra will be broken if the refractive dispersion is taken into account.The effect of vacancies which was valid only for the SHL's dim spectra lines but invalid for the bright ones is also discussed.
