Skin Histology and Microtopography of Papuan White Snake (Micropechis ikaheka) in Relation to Their Zoogeographical Distribution
KELIOPAS KREY,ACHMAD FARAJALLAH
HAYATI Journal of Biosciences , 2013,
Abstract: Papuan white snake (Micropechis ikaheka) is endemic to New Guinea (the region of the Papua and Papua New Guinea). Internal histology of skin layer and the microtopography structure on the surface scales of M. ikaheka were the aims of the study. This study also related to zoogeographical of the snake in Papua. Geographical skin color variation of M. ikaheka can be described in three groups, i.e. brown, yellow and black group. The three groups of the snake have specific zoogeography in the mainland of Papua and satellite islands to Papua New Guinea. Paraffin method used in this work showed approximately five layers i.e. oberhautchen, the beta ( )-layer, the mesos layer, the alpha ( )-layer, and the dermis in the snake skin. Although the paraffin method cannot explain the arrangement of pigment cells, however, the dark color on the dermis might contain melanophores that might cause dark color of the snake body. Overlapping scales formed the hinge region were flexible to assist the snakes when they moved across substrate. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the oberhautchen of all of M. ikaheka revealed no microornamentation. However, dorsal and ventral scales showed many follicles on the entire surface of the boundary scales.

URN: urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs040181 This contribution deals with a topic discussed in the science of nursing as well as in the everyday life of the nursing staff. However, in view of the changing technology and economy in the field of nursing, the problem of controlling one's emotions, particularly of controlling feelings of disgust, has become increasingly absent as a topic of discussion. The main concern of the present research work is to describe the origin of one's feelings of disgust—a subject considered taboo from the perspectives of the nursing students. The author examines the theoretical background of the problem of controlling one's emotions, and elaborates that by permanently repressing negative feelings students can develop inner conflicts. The results of the empirical research show that these inner conflicts can influence patient care in a negative way and can possibly lead to avoiding patient contact, this profession and making a different choice.
Interpreting Quantum Chromodynamics from Spin Glass- and Polymer Analogies
U. Krey
Physics , 2010,
Abstract: In an informal way some kind of Ising Lattice QCD is introduced which allows to interprete and discuss the well-known theory of quantum chromodynamics (confinement, quarks and gluons, etc.) from simple phenomena of magnetism and polymer physics. Also the viewpoint of duality is stressed. Moreover, the non-abelian character of the Lie group SU(3) is important. The essential arguments for confinement and asymptotic freedom are given at the very end of the manuscript, after an appendix.

On the significance of quantum effects and interactions for the apparent universality of Bloch laws for M_s(T)

Abstract: The apparent universality of Bloch's T^{3/2}-law for the temperature dependence of the spontaneous magnetization, and of generalizations thereof, is considered. It is argued that in the derivation one should not only consider the exchange interaction between the spins, but also the other interactions between them, leading to elliptical spin precession and deviations from the parabolic dispersion of magnons. Also interaction effects are important to explain the apparent universality of generalized Bloch law exponents e_B, defined by M_s(T)= M_s(0)-const. x T^{e_B}, valid in a wide temperature range T_1 < T < T_2, and for dimensionalities d = 1, 2, and 3. The above-mentioned temperature range, the 'Bloch range', lies above the quantum range, where magnetic long-range order (e.g. in d=2 dimensions) is nontrivially enforced by the additional interactions, but below the thermal critical region, where universal 'anomalous scaling dimensions' apply. In contrast, for the Bloch temperature region, the universality is only apparent, i.e. a crossover-phenomenon, and simple scaling considerations with 'normal dimensions' apply. However, due to interactions, the Bloch exponent e_B depends not only on the dimensionality d of the system, but also on the spin quantum number s (mod (1/2)) of the system, i.e. for given d the Bloch exponent e_B is different for half-integer s and for integer s.
On the dynamics of spin systems in the Landau-Lifshitz theory
U. Krey
Physics , 2006,
Abstract: In the framework of the Landau-Lifshitz equations without any dissipation (an approximation which may also be helpful for finite but weak Gilbert damping), with all interactions included, for general ground states, geometries and domain structures, and many types of effective fields the dynamics of the spin precession around this ground state is considered. At first the precession is treated in the linear approximation. For the eigenmodes of the precession one has a `rule of geometric mean' for the eigenfrequencies. For the eigenmodes pseudo-orthogonality relations are obtained, which reflect the gyrotropic and elliptic character of the spin precession and differ from those known from the Schrodinger equation. Moreover, pseudo-orthogonality relations are valid 'everywhere' (e.g., both in the outer region and in the core region of a magnetic vortex). Then also some aspects of the nonlinear mode coupling with emphasis on `confluence' and `splitting' processes of elementary magnetic spin-wave excitations are considered. At the same time these processes contribute to the Gilbert damping. There are thus essential differences to quantum mechanics, although at a first glance one discovers many similarities. From the results one may also get insights of why these systems are so complex that (although the essential quantities depend only on the local values of the partially long-ranged effective magnetic fields) practically only detailed experiments and computer simulations make sense.

On the Financial Crisis 2008 from a Physicist's viewpoint: A Spin-Glass Interpretation
U. Krey
Quantitative Finance , 2008,
Abstract: In an informal way, a number of thoughts on the financial crisis 2008 are presented from a physicist's viewpoint, considering the problem as a nonergodicity transition of a spin-glass type of system. Some tentative suggestions concerning the way out of the crisis are also discussed, concerning Keynesian "deficit spending" methods, tax reductions, and finally the method "ruin and recreate" known from optimization theory. Also the de Almeida-Thouless instability line of spin-glass theory is given a financial interpretation.
