Anti-inflammatory activity of Mirabilis Jalapa Linn. leaves

Abstract: Mirabilis Jalapa Linn. is a widely used traditional medicine in many parts of the world for the treatment of various diseases viz. virus inhibitory activity, anti tumour activity. It is claimed in traditional medicine that the leaves of the plant are used in the treatment of inflammation. In the present study, the total alcoholic extract and successive petroleum ether fractions of leaves of Mirabilis Jalapa Linn were screened for its anti-inflammatory activity using carageenan induced rat paw edema and cotton pellet induced granuloma models. The total alcoholic extract at the dose of 300mg/kg p.o and successive petroleum ether fraction at the dose of 200mg/kg exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity in carrageenan induced paw edema model (p<0.01). In cotton pellet granuloma model, the total alcoholic extract at the dose of 300 mg/kg and successive petroleum ether fraction at the dose of 200mg/kg inhibited granuloma formation significantly (p<0.05) indicating that both test samples inhibit the increase in number of fibroblasts and synthesis of collagen and mucopolysaccharides during granuloma tissue formation during the chronic inflammation. These experimental results have established a pharmacological evidence for the folklore claim of the drug to be used as an anti inflammatory agent
Alleviation of alloxan-induced diabetes and its complications in rats by Actinodaphne hookeri leaf extract

Abstract: Leaves of Actinodaphne hookeri Meissn (Family Lauraceae; local name: Pisa) has been in use traditionally for the treatment of diabetes and disorders of the urinary tract which are more common in Chattisgarh and eastern part of India. In the present study, leaves of A. hookeri were subjected to phytochemical investigation and evaluated for anti-diabetic activity. The ethanol and the chloroform extract were found to have significant (p<0.01) blood glucose lowering effect. The extracts also significantly (p<0.01) lowered the increased serum cholesterol and low density lipoprotein levels. Preliminary phytochemical investigation revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, triterpenoids and glycosides as the major constituents in the ethanol extract. The chloroform extract also showed significant (p<0.01) antihyperglycemic activity and contained alkaloids and triterpenes. It is concluded that the antidiabetic activity of A. hookeri may be due to the presence of alkaloids and triterpenes, and might be promising for the development of phytomedicine for diabetes mellitus along with its associated complications.
Congestion Control in 4G Wireless Networks Using Coalition Game

Abstract: In 4G-domain multi home mobile host (MH) will have access to different wireless networks. In this 4G wireless networks real time applications are initiated to support services like VOIP, videoconference. These applications use RTP over UDP. These protocols are unresponsive to congestion events. Our proposed congestion management scheme minimizes congestion level in 4G domains using coalition game. Its main objective is to decide target networks for handoff with minimum congestion level. Our mechanism is based on the coalition game formation. It aims at maximizing the utilization of the resources available and meeting QoS requirement of users as much as possible. This will reduce congestion level with vertical handoff initiation.

Abstract: In 4G wireless networks, when a mobile host (MH) with multiple wireless interfaces changes its location or needs a network service, the MH will require a switch between different wireless networks (vertical handoff). Proposed congestion-aware proactive vertical handoff scheme uses coalition game. Its main objective is to decide source and target networks for handoff at minimum congestion in 4G wireless networks. Our mechanism is based on the coalition game formulation. It aims at maximizing the utilization of the resources available and meeting QoS requirement of users as much as possible by initiating vertical handoff. This will reduce congestion level. The performance of proposed scheme is evaluated through numerical analysis.

Abstract: Today, India with a population over 1.1 billion, which is more than one-sixth of global human population, has 70 million people with disability. Among 70 million physically challenged people in India, and only 2% are educated and 1% are employed. There has been a systematic neglect of the physically challenged people in India. According to a study conducted by McKinsey and Company, it costs the nation as much as Rs.720000 million per annum to care for the physically challenged citizens. Parents, siblings, friends and welfare organizations in India are spending most of the expenses of the fortunate physically challenged people. The unfortunate physically challenged people are roaming in the society as beggars. The paper analysis the types of physical changes and legal protection.
A Client-based Vertical Handoff System in 4G Wireless Networks

Abstract: In 4G wireless networks different access networks operate in cooperative manner. It offers seamless connectivity and high-speed multimedia services in different types of wireless networks. One of the most challenging issues related to mobility is vertical handoff. Mobile IP is a prominent solution to handle mobile node movement in 4G wireless networks. However, Mobile IP suffers from long handoff latency. Our handoff management system tries to improve the performance of handoff operation in basic integration approaches. This paper demonstrates applicability of Information Technology (IT) in 4G wireless networks by proposing a vertical handoff scheme and discusses its operations like: handoff decision-making, network selection, handoff execution. The proposed handoff scheme is suitable for both tightly and loosely coupled architectures of 4G wireless networks. The scheme represents handoff operations in two basic integration approaches. A simulation study of the vertical handoff is made to evaluate its performance in terms of dropped packets during handoffs in tightly coupled and loosely coupled architectures.

Abstract: Cloud computing is a popular distributed network and utility model based technology. Since in cloud the data is outsourced to third parties, the protection of confidentiality and privacy of user data becomes important. Different methods for securing the data in cloud have been proposed by researchers including but not limited to Oblivious RAM, Searchable Encryption, Functional Encryption, Homomorphic Encryption etc. This paper focuses on Searchable and Homomorphic Encryption methods. Finally, a comparative study of these two efficient cloud cryptographic methods has been carried out and given here.

Abstract: We report an interesting ocular finding of bilateral multiple coin-shaped epithelial lesions along with the confocal microscopy findings in a patient following an acute attack of erythema multiforme (EM) minor. A 30-year-old male presented with a history of watering and irritation in both eyes of three days duration. He was diagnosed to have EM minor and was on oral acyclovir. Slit-lamp examination revealed multiple coin-shaped epithelial lesions. Confocal microscopy showed a corresponding conglomerate of hyper-reflective epithelial lesions. The corneal lesions resolved over six weeks with oral steroids and acyclovir. An immunological mechanism is suspected.
