FPGA-Based High-Frequency Digital Pulse Width Modulator Architecture for DC-DC Converters  [PDF]

Abstract: Digital pulse width modulator is an integral part in digitally controlled Direct Current to Direct Current (DC-DC) converter utilized in modern portable devices. This paper presents a new Digital Pulse Width Modulator (DPWM) architecture for DC-DC converter using mealy finite state machine with gray code encoding scheme and one hot encoding method to derive the variable duty cycle Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal without varying the clock frequency. To verify the proposed DPWM technique, the architecture with control input of six, five and four bits are implemented and the maximum operating frequency along with power consumption results is obtained for different Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices. The post layout timing results are presented showing that architecture can work with maximum frequency of 326 MHz and derive PWM signal of 3.59 MHz. Experimental results show the implementation of the proposed architecture in low-cost FPGA (Spartan 3A) with on-board oscillator clock frequency of 12 MHz which is multiplied internally by two with Digital Clock Manager (DCM) and derive the PWM signal of 1.5 MHz with a time resolution of 1 ps.

Abstract: Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is an emerging technology in which mobility management, continuous connectivity and security on data transmission between vehicles with high speed or during the change of topology of the network acts as a challenging exploration issue of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications. This paper aims to formulate a ubiquitous connectivity to nodes by keeping the established connections before and after handover thereby minimizing the delay, packet loss and provide secured acknowledgement for handover. The Secured Efficient?Fast Handover Multihoming Based NEMO+ (SEFMNEMO+) framework helps to optimize the?NEMO+?scheme that supports multihomed network, handover and security. The predictive policy exchangemethod is used to update the future handover for minimizing the overhead delay and packet loss.?The multihomed feature in NEMO+ supports efficient handover mechanism between heterogeneous?networks when VANET connection fails. Public key cryptography provides the secure acknowledgement before handover i.e., the acknowledgement is encrypted with digital signature.

Abstract: The web has become a main research area. There is a large amount of information available on the web that is to be discovered, shared and utilized. Most of the information available on the web is unstructured and hence cannot be understood by machines. Semantic web is a step forward in this direction where data can be understood by both humans and machines. By encouraging the inclusion of semantic content in web pages, the Semantic Web aims at converting the current web dominated by unstructured and semi-structured documents into a web of data. Ontology plays a critical role for the Semantic Web, and it is necessary to understand ontology in order to fully appreciate the idea of the Semantic Web. Ontology is defined as a common set of terms that are used to describe and represent a domain. It defines the terms used to describe and represent an area of knowledge. This paper explains in detail the development of ontology in the nutrition domain using Noy and McGuiness method.

Abstract: A study of tsunami impact was undertaken along India’s Karaikal coast from Poovam in Karaikal to Nagore, Nagapatinam. An integrated approach was adopted for the preparation of thematic maps on land use, land cover and coastal geomorphology using multispectral remote sensing data. RTK GPS instruments were used for the collection of topographic data with contour intervals of 0.5m. The GIS tool was used to incorporate the elevation data, the extent of tsunami inundation and the thematic maps derived from remote sensing data. The present study highlights the most vulnerable areas of tsunami inundation and provides demarcations of suitable sites for rehabilitation.
Tuning Kondo physics in Graphene with gate voltage

Abstract: We show theoretically that graphene, which exhibits a massless Dirac like spectrum for its electrons, can exhibit unconventional Kondo effect that can be tuned by an experimentally controllable applied gate voltage. We demonstrate the presence of a finite critical Kondo coupling strength in neutral graphene. We discuss the possibility of multichannel Kondo effect in this system which might lead to a non-Fermi liquid like ground state and provide a discussion of possible experimental realization of Kondo phenomenon in graphene.

Abstract: Recent technical advancements in low-power integrated circuits, ultra low-power RF (radio frequency) technology, wireless communications and micro sensors allowed the realization of Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs). It is one of the latest technologies in health care diagnosis and management. A body area network wirelessly connects independent nodes (e.g. medical devices, earphones, sensors, actuators) attached to the body surface, implanted into tissues/body, or dispersed in the clothing for applications in home/health care, sports, entertainment, defense, ambient intelligence, pervasive computing and many other areas. These sensors offer promising applications in areas such as real time health monitoring, interactive gaming and consumer electronics. WBAN does not compel the patient to stay in the hospital thereby giving much physical mobility. Thus it greatly increases the efficiency of a health care system. This paper presents an overview on the various aspects of WBAN including sensors used, applications, power efficiency, communication protocols, security requirements, existing projects in WBANs and challenges faced in wireless body area networks.

Abstract: Internet has played vital role in the online business. Every business peoples are needed to show their information clients or end user. In search engines have million indexed pages. A search engine optimization technique has to implement both web applications static and dynamic. There is no issue for create search engine optimization contents to static (web contents does not change until that web site is re host) web application and keep up the search engine optimization regulations and state of affairs. A few significant challenges to dynamic content poses. To overcome these challenges to have a fully functional dynamic site that is optimized as much as a static site can be optimized. Whatever user search and they can get information their information quickly. In that circumstance we are using few search engine optimization dynamic web application methods such as User Friendly URL's, URL Redirector and HTML Generic. Both internal and external elements of the site affect the way it's ranked in any given search engine, so all of these elements should be taken into consideration. Implement these concepts to E-publishing Community Website that web site have large amount of dynamic fields with dynamic validations with the help of XML, XSL Java script. A database plays a major role to accomplish this functionality. We can use 3D (static, dynamic and Meta) database structures. One of the advantages of the XML/XSLT combination is the ability to separate content from presentation. A data source can return an XML document, then by using an XSLT, the data can be transformed into whatever HTML is needed, based on the data in the XML document. The flexibility of XML/XLST can be combined with the power of ASP.NET server/client controls by using an XSLT to generate the server/client controls dynamically, thus leveraging the best of both worlds.
Implementation of Energy Balancing in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), energy is a very precious resource for sensor nodes and communication overhead is to be minimized. So energy is an extremely critical resource for this type of battery-powered based Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), and thus making energy-efficient smart protocol design is a key challenging problem. Some of the few existing energy-efficient routing protocols schemes always forward the packets through the minimum energy based optimal route to the sink to minimize energy consumption. It causes an unbalanced distribution of residual energy between sensor nodes, which leads to network partition. The prime goal of this approach is to forward packets to sink through the energy denser area to protect the nodes with less residual energy, which is maximizing the Sensor Networks Lifetime. The existing technique Energy Balanced Routing Protocol (EBRP) fails to achieve Throughput, End-to-End Delay, in order to improve the Network Performance. So the efficient routing protocol is needed with the capabilities of both the Energy Efficiency and Energy Balancing. To address these issues, we have proposed Delay Aware Energy Balanced Dynamic Routing Protocol (DA-EBDRP). The proposed routing technique achieves in terms of End-to-End Delay, Throughput, Portion of Living Node (PLN) and Network Lifetime. By simulation results the proposed algorithm achieves better performance than the existing methods.
Design and Development of Artificial Neural Networking (ANN) system using sigmoid activation function to predict annual rice production in Tamilnadu

Abstract: Prediction of annual rice production in all the 31 districts of Tamilnadu is an important decision for the Government of Tamilnadu. Rice production is a complex process and non linear problem involving soil, crop, weather, pest, disease, capital, labour and management parameters. ANN software was designed and developed with Feed Forward Back Propagation (FFBP) network to predict rice production. The input layer has six independent variables like area of cultivation and rice production in three seasons like Kuruvai, Samba and Kodai. The popular sigmoid activation function was adopted to convert input data into sigmoid values. The hidden layer computes the summation of six sigmoid values with six sets of weightages. The final output was converted into sigmoid values using a sigmoid transfer function. ANN outputs are the predicted results. The error between original data and ANN output values were computed. A threshold value of 10-9 was used to test whether the error is greater than the threshold level. If the error is greater than threshold then updating of weights was done all summations were done by back propagation. This process was repeated until error equal to zero. The predicted results were printed and it was found to be exactly matching with the expected values. It shows that the ANN prediction was 100% accurate.
Enhancement of Voltage Stability in Fixed Speed Wind Energy Conversion Systems using FACTS Controller

Abstract: Grid connected Fixed Speed Wind Turbines (FSWT) may cause voltage stability problems which results in islanding of the generator from the grid. Voltage stability is a major issue to achieve the uninterrupted operation of wind farms equipped with FSWTs. In this paper the design of a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) based on Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) – Multi Level Converter (MLC) is proposed. The dynamic behavior of 3 level and 5 level CMC based STATCOM is validated by simulation with MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation techniques.A detailed analysis of the operating characteristics of the various inverter topologies are compared in the paper. To analyze the performance of the STATCOM connected in shunt with the transmission line, an induction generator based wind farm has been considered. The complete digital simulation of the STATCOM incorporated into the power system is performed in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment and the results are presented to validate the feasibility of the proposed topology.
