Current Status and Outlook in the Application of Microalgae in Biodiesel Production and Environmental Protection

Abstract: Microalgae have been currently recognized as a group of the most potential feedstocks for biodiesel production due to high productivity potential, efficient biosynthesis of lipids, and less competition with food production. Moreover, utilization of microalgae with environmental purposes (CO2 fixation, NOx, and wastewater treatment) and biorefinery has been reported. However, there are still challenges that need to be addressed to ensure stable large-scale production with positive net energy balance. This review gives an overview of the current status of the application of microalgae in biodiesel production and environmental protection. The practical problems not only facing the microalgae biodiesel production but also associated with microalgae application for environmental pollution control, in particular biological fixation of greenhouse gas (CO2 and NOx) and wastewater treatment are described in detail. Notably, the synergistic combination of various applications (e.g., food, medicine, wastewater treatment, and flue gas treatment) with biodiesel production could enhance the sustainability and economics of the algal biodiesel production system.

Abstract: A novel local-dielectric-thickening technique i s presented for performance improvements of Si-based spiral inductors.This technique employs the processes of deposition,photolithography,and wet-etching,to locally thicken the oxide layer under the inductor,which can decrease the substrate loss and improve the inductor performance.Both the structures and processes are compact,economical,and compatible with CMOS processing.Several square spiral inductors with different inductances are fabricated,and the quality factors and the self-resonant frequencies both increase clearly with this proposed technique:for the 10nH,5nH,and 2nH inductors,the peak quality factors are effectively improved by 46.7%,49.7%,and 68.6%,respectively;however,the improvement percents of the self-resonant frequencies are more significant,which are 92.1%,91.0%,and no less than 68.1% respectively.
Effects of Residual Stress on the Hydro-Elastic Vibration of Circular Diaphragm  [PDF]

Abstract:

The effects of residual stress on the hydro-elastic vibration of circular diaphragm are theoretically investigated by using the added mass approach. The Kirchhoff theory of plates is used to model the elastic thin circular diaphragm on an aperture of an infinite rigid wall and in contact with a fluid on one side. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible and inviscid and the velocity potential is used to describe its irrotational motion. A non-dimensional tension parameter is defined, and the effects of the tension parameter on the frequency parameters and mode shapes of the diaphragm in the air are presented. The Hankel transform is applied to solve the fluid-diaphragm coupled system; boundary conditions are expressed by integral equations. Finally, the effects of residual stress on the non-dimensional added virtual mass incremental (NAVMI) factors of the diaphragm contact with a fluid on one side are investigated. It is found that the effects of the residual stress cannot be neglected when the edges of the circular diaphragm are clamped. The effects of residual stress for NAVMI factors can be increases 11% when the non-dimensional tension parameter is 1000.

A High Performance 0.18μm RF nMOSFET with 53GHz Cutoff Frequency

Abstract: 阐述了0.18μm射频nMOSFET的制造和性能. 器件采用氮化栅氧化层/多晶栅结构、轻掺杂源漏浅延伸结、倒退的沟道掺杂分布和叉指栅结构. 除0.18μm的栅线条采用电子束直写技术外,其他结构均通过常规的半导体制造设备实现. 按照简洁的工艺流程制备了器件,获得了优良的直流和射频性能:阈值电压0.52V,亚阈值斜率80mV/dec,漏致势垒降低因子69mV/V,截止电流0.5nA/μm,饱和驱动电流458μA/μm,饱和跨导212μS/μm (6nm氧化层,3V驱动电压)及截止频率53GHz.
南京地区城市下垫面特征对雷暴过程影响的数值模拟

Abstract: 本文选取2011年7月23日发生在南京的一次雷暴个例,利用中尺度数值模式WRF(WeatherResearchandForecastingmodel),耦合Noah/UCM,并采用NCEPFNL1°×1°每日4次的全球分析场资料作为初始场及南京自动站观测数据等,对南京地区城市下垫面特征对雷暴过程的影响进行了数值模拟。结果表明:模拟的雷暴发生发展过程与该地区城市下垫面有着密切的联系。首先,雷暴发生前期,南京地区热岛效应明显。其次,城市上空的感热通量较高,结合城郊下垫面热力差异造成的城市热岛环流,加强了城区的辐合上升,为雷暴的形成提供了重要的抬升作用。城市下垫面扩张,使其上空边界层高度相应提升,垂直混合高度增加,有助于对流云的发展。此外,城市下垫面加强了大气低层的扰动位温,为雷暴提供了不稳定的层结条件。最后,城市地表较大的粗糙度使雷暴降水在城区低层的迎风面一侧明显增强。
Disrupted Functional Brain Connectivity and Its Association to Structural Connectivity in Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s Disease

Abstract: Although anomalies in the topological architecture of whole-brain connectivity have been found to be associated with Alzheimer’s disease (AD), our understanding about the progression of AD in a functional connectivity (FC) perspective is still rudimentary and few study has explored the function-structure relations in brain networks of AD patients. By using resting-state functional MRI (fMRI), this study firstly investigated organizational alternations in FC networks in 12 AD patients, 15 amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) patients, and 14 age-matched healthy aging subjects and found that all three groups exhibit economical small-world network properties. Nonetheless, we found a decline of the optimal architecture in the progression of AD, represented by a more localized modular organization with less efficient local information transfer. Our results also show that aMCI forms a boundary between normal aging and AD and represents a functional continuum between healthy aging and the earliest signs of dementia. Moreover, we revealed a dissociated relationship between the overall FC and structural connectivity (SC) in AD patients. In this study, diffusion tensor imaging tractography was used to map the structural network of the same individuals. The decreased FC-SC coupling may be indicative of more stringent and less dynamic brain function in AD patients. Our findings provided insightful implications for understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms of brain dysfunctions in aMCI and AD patients and demonstrated that functional disorders can be characterized by multimodal neuroimaging-based metrics.
The GDTM-Padé Technique for the Nonlinear Lattice Equations

Abstract: The GDTM-Padé technique is a combination of the generalized differential transformmethod and the Padé approximation. We apply this technique to solve the two nonlinear latticeequations, which results in the high accuracy of the GDTM-Padé solutions. Numerical results arepresented to show its efficiency by comparing the GDTM-Padé solutions, the solutions obtained bythe generalized differential transform method, and the exact solutions.
The discovery of aeschnidiid nymphs (Aeschnidiidae, Odonata, Insecta)

Abstract: Aeschnidiid nymphs are here first identified and described, and its phylogenetic relationship and bioecological characteristics are deduced. The nymphs known from China, Mongolia, Russia and Brazil and arranged in the family Aeschnidiidae are, in fact, unrelated to this group. All the known five Chinese species in four genera which were erected based on fossil nymphs and placed in the family Gomphidae may be transferred in Aeschnidiidae and merged into one alone, theSinaeschnidia cancellosa. It is a geographically widespread species from the “Jehol biota” of East Asia and appeared in the latest Late Jurassic age.
