Abstract: treatment of mucosal leishmaniasis (ml) can be controlled by clinical examination and by serologic titers by the indirect immunofluorescence serologic reaction (iisr). we studied the correlation between the presence of antigen in tissue determined by immunohistochemistry, the iisr titers and the anatomopathologic findings in fifteen patients with ml before and after healing of the lesions as determined by otorhinolaryngologic evaluation, and evaluated these parameters to determine which of them could be useful during follow-up. tissue antigens became negative in four patients (group a) after treatment, with a statistically significant reduction or negativity of iisr titers (p<0.05). this did not occur in patients in whom the antigen persisted after treatment (group b), suggesting that serologic follow-up should be performed together with the search for tissue antigen, a combination which, to our knowledge, has not been used in previous studies. the negativity of tissue antigens and the behavior of iirs titers in group a patients probably indicate a lower possibility of recurrence. upon anatomopathologic examination the inflammatory process was found to persist after treatment even in group a, suggesting that the permanence of inflammatory activity even in clinically healed lesions is possibly correlated with the presence of the antigen or of some unknown factor.
Linking Participation and Built Environment Education in Urban Planning Processes  [PDF]
Angela Million, Anna Juliane Heinrich
Current Urban Studies (CUS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/cus.2014.24032
Abstract: The article reflects in theory and practice on links between built environment education (BEE) and youth participation in urban planning processes. Taking into account tempirical knowledge on linkages between participation and educational processes, the findings show that BEE is an important way to qualify current practices of participation. The theoretical discussion is reflected on the EU-project “Fantasy Design—Children in Community” and the national German youth workshop “Young Cities Now! Youth. City. Laboratory”. The authors conclude that a debate on the inclusion of BEE in participation processes is necessary to support young people to participate in urban planning processes. But further investigation is needed to provide empirical evidence on impacts and outcomes and to discuss contradictions.

Bazzo, Juliane;
Vibrant: Virtual Brazilian Anthropology , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1809-43412011000200008
Abstract: in barra de ararapira fisherman village, kinship operates as a language that allows to realize, think, express and organize a space in constant transformation. the village is undergoing a process of natural erosion, because of this, its residents have been transferring, secularly, residence areas and fishing routes. this natural situation resulted in an own territorial law, oriented by a genealogical content, which differs radically from other forms of space organizing, such as private property or public domain. this conflict materializes with the overlap to the fishermen village of the superagüi national park in 1997, a state instrument for protection of natural areas, where human presence is vetoed in order to ensure the conservation objectives.
Implementing a Dictionary Culture in South Africa: An Attempt at a General Framework for the African Languages
Juliane Klein
Lexikos , 2011, DOI: 10.5788/17--535
Abstract: : The development of a dictionary culture consists of three main phases: (a) the information phase, (b) the learning phase and (c) the consolidation phase. The first step towards a new dictionary culture is to inform mother-tongue speakers of available dictionaries and their benefits for individual speakers. This information should mainly be distributed through dictionary awareness campaigns conducted in the relevant African languages and by influential mother-tongue speakers. The main difficulty of the learning phase consists in the teaching of different groups, for example lexicographers, teachers and students, as well as adults who want to consult a dictionary effectively. Although a basic knowledge of lexicography is useful for teachers, a natural association with dictionaries as well as an intimate knowledge of dictionaries is more important. An intimate knowledge of dictionaries includes, among others: the different dictionary types, the contents of dictionaries and the know-how to find the sought-for word. The last phase is the consolidation phase in which the association with dictionaries will change from an uncommon to a normal activity. Keywords: DICTIONARY CULTURE, INFORMATION, NATIONAL LEXICOGRAPHIC UNITS, DICTIONARIES, AFRICAN LANGUAGES, DICTIONARY AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS, EMPOWERMENT, TEACHING PHASE, USER, MEDIA, CONSOLIDATION PHASE, INCLUSIVE MODEL Zusammenfassung: Implementierung einer W rterbuchkultur in Südafrika: Ein Versuch eines allgemeinen Modells für die afrikanischen Sprachen.

Juliane Noack
Galáxia , 2008,
Abstract: O tema do artigo é o conceito de identidade. Palavras-chave: identidade; semiótica; semiose; identidade como signo Abstract The notion of identity from the standpoint of semiotics - The subject of this article is the concept of identity. The starting point is the observation that the ideas of unity, coherence and continuity, which constitute the concept of identity, appear to be losing their explanatory power in so-called postmodernity. The ideal of a unique and complete "I" has led to heated debate about whether the concept of identity should be abandoned. This article aims to contribute to this debate, offering reflections about the concept of identity from the perspective of Semiotics and about how this perspective can enrich both the concept of identity and identity as such. Keywords: identity; semiotic; semiosis; identity as a sign
South Africa's New African Language Dictionaries and their Use for the African Speech Communities
Juliane Klein
Lexikos , 2011, DOI: 10.5788/19--447
Abstract: : During the last 15 years, the lexicographic scene in South Africa changed drastically as many new dictionaries for the African languages were compiled. The different dictionary types and publication modes discussed in this article are: general dictionaries, restricted dictionaries, printed dictionaries, electronic dictionaries, online and cell phone dictionaries. Although there are different dictionary types, they all have three major uses for the speech communities. Dictionaries are useful tools for language documentation and standardization, as they try to cover and document the general vocabulary (general dictionaries) or the spe-cialized vocabulary (technical dictionaries). They empower the language users because they help to improve communication by providing users with the necessary vocabulary they need. In addition, dictionaries have a high symbolic value for a language. Having dictionaries, and especially technical, online or cell phone dic-tionaries, is the visible proof that a language is standardized and modern, and can be used in all domains of life. Keywords: LEXICOGRAPHY, GENERAL DICTIONARIES, RESTRICTED DICTIONARIES, ONLINE DICTIONARIES, CELL PHONE DICTIONARIES, LANGUAGE DOCUMENTATION, LANGUAGE STANDARDIZATION, EMPOWERMENT, COMMUNICATION, PSYCHOLOGI-CAL FACTOR, SOCIOLINGUISTICS, LANGUAGE PLANNING Opsomming: Suid-Afrika se nuwe Afrikataalwoordeboeke en hul gebruik vir die Afrikataalgemeenskappe.
